Chapter 28

Rebecca worked in the office for a while. Around lunch, Larry called and said the truck was about an hour out and he should be home before it got there. She finished up what she was doing then walked out to the front. Shelly was at the front desk. "Hey, Shelly. What do you think of this?" She asked as she held out the brochure.

Shelly took it and looked at it. "You did a really good job. It's definitely better than the old one."

"I also have an internet one."

"That's great," she said. "I was just heading to the restaurant for lunch. Do you want to join me?"

"Sure. I guess I should eat something."

"Great." Shelly said. "Grace, I'm going to lunch." She said to the other front desk agent.

Shelly and Rebecca walked off to the restaurant. They got a table right away and ordered drinks. Rebecca looked over her menu then put it down. "Is there something going on? There seems to be more security than I've seen before."

"We have a VIP here and requested extra security. It's nothing to worry about."

"Oh, all right," Rebecca said. "Does this happen often?"

"Not really, but it does happen. We've had celebrities stay here before and a lot of important people."

"So, that's why you have a lot of extra security. I didn't realize how many there were before."

"There are plenty even on normal days. They usually aren't as noticeable."

"I guess."

The waitress brought their drinks and took their orders. They talked until their food came. They ate quietly. When they were done, they sat talking.

Larry saw them as he walked into the restaurant. He walked over to them and sat down at the table. "Hello, Shelly. Rebecca. Did you enjoy your lunch?"

"Yes, we were just talking."

"Good. I'm glad you are coming out of your shell."

"By the way, I finished this." Rebecca said as she pulled out the brochure.

Larry looked at it. "It looks great."

"I also have an internet one that I want you to look at."

"We can do that."

"She did a good job, didn't she?"

"Yes, she did."

"Should I get it out to the printers?" Shelly asked.

"No, we will do that," Larry said. "Thanks, Shelly."

"I better get back to work. I had a nice lunch, Rebecca. Maybe we can do it again."

"That would be nice," Rebecca said. Shelly got up and left. Rebecca looked at Larry. "Is something wrong? You look worried."

"No, not really. It was just a stressful day at the office with my father."

"Is he still pushing you to do that project?"

"Yes."

"Don't let him bother you. Did the truck get here yet?"

"It should be here soon," Larry said. "Brian called when I was coming home and said there was an accident."

"There's always something."

Larry reached over and placed his hand on hers. "It will get here. Let's go order some pamphlets and put the hotel on the internet."

"Sounds good."

Larry got up and pulled Rebecca's chair out for her. He took her hand and they walked out of the restaurant. "So, are you all finished with this now?"

"Yes. Now I am going to concentrate on my book."

"That's great."

"It's not like I have anything else to do."

"You have plenty to do," Larry said. "You have our place to decorate."

"I guess," Rebecca said. "It looks fine to me, though."

"I want you to put your personal touch to it."

"I'll do that when I unpack my stuff."

"All right." Larry said then led her to the office. They went in and closed the door.

Larry's phone rang a while later. He pulled it out and looked at it. "Hey Brian." He answered. "Yes, in the back loading dock. You will take the freight elevator up," he said. "Not that I heard of but check with Duane," he said. "All right. Bye." Larry hung up. "They are pulling up now."

"Great. Should we watch them?"

"No. Brian will keep an eye on them."

"All right," Rebecca said. They finished up the order and the postings on the sights. Larry checked his email. Rebecca walked over and sat down on a chair. "Have you heard anything from the chief?"

"No, I haven't."

"Oh. I was hoping to know something."

"I'm sure we will soon," Larry said. "So, how do you want your pay for the advertisement? Cash, check, or a credit card?"

"I guess either cash or on a credit card. I can't cash a check."

"Why don't I give you half cash and the other on a card?"

"That will work, too," Rebecca said. "You really don't have to pay me at all. Think of it as repayment for what you have done for me."

"I told you there wasn't any strings attached to coming here. I hired you to do a job and I am paying you."

"So, I am your employee?"

"Not anymore. You job is done. It's just a technicality. You signed the papers."

"Yes, but I really didn't think you were actually going to pay me."

"That's how it works. You can do what you want with it." Larry said then got up. He opened a closet door and walked inside. He came back out a few moments later and closed the door. He walked over to Rebecca and held out some cash and credit card. "This doesn't have to change anything."

"I know." Rebecca said and took the money. "I don't know why I feel like I don't deserve this. You have done so much for me and I have fallen for you."

"I love you. I would do anything for you. You asked me not to spoil you with gifts, so I won't do that. Or at least I will try not to spoil you too much."

"I know," Rebecca said. She stood up. She put the money in her pocket and put her arms around Larry's neck. "I love you." She said then kissed him. She pulled back slightly. "So, I have been sleeping with my boss? I didn't realize that. That's a first for me."

"You shouldn't think of it like that."

"It happens more than you think, but since I'm done working for you, and it didn't last that long, I guess I will deal with it." Rebecca laughed.

"Well, you aren't being fired, so you can't sue me." Larry said as he held her close. He kissed her.

"I guess we should get me a purse."

"I guess we should." Larry said then kissed her again. "I am so glad we found each other."

"So am I," Rebecca said. "Let's go down to the store and see if I like any of the purses. If they don't have anything, then I'll find one in my stuff from my apartment."

"All right." Larry said then took her hand. They walked out of the office and down to the store. Larry stayed close to her as she looked at the handbags. She found one she liked then looked at the wallets. She picked out one and they took them to the register. The cashier took the security tags off of them and placed them in a bag. Larry took the bag and they walked out. "Do you want a drink before going upstairs?"

"Not really."

"All right. Let's go upstairs and relax a while." He said as he walked towards the elevators.

"This VIP must be important for all this security around."

"Yes, they are," Larry said. They stopped outside the elevators and pressed the button. The doors opened immediately. They got on. "Hello, Carl."

"Hello, sir, ma'am." Carl said as he pressed in the security code for the top floor. They were quiet as they went up. The elevator stopped and the doors opened. "Have a good evening." Carl said.

"You too, Carl." Rebecca said as they stepped out. "Larry, is there something wrong?"

"Why do you ask?"

"You usually talk to Carl."

"I just didn't feel like talking." Larry said as he opened the door. They went inside. Larry looked around as he walked in slowly. "I know you want to see your stuff, but why don't we wait until everything is up here."

"I'm glad it's here, so I can wait to unpack it. We can move my clothes over to my new closet, can't we?"

"Yes, that's a good idea. Let me get changed first."

"I will start to get things together."

"Great." Larry said then went down to the bedroom.
