When you’re powerless and trying to climb your way up, you face every kind of obstacle imaginable.
Staged accidents, friends stabbing you in the back–I’ve been through it all.
So I stopped believing in promises from the person sharing my bed a long time ago.
But all these years, no matter how ugly things got between Owen and me, we always put on the perfect parent act in front of our son.
Yet Owen Pierce kept breaking that rule for some stupid woman like Ivy Wells.
Watching the car speeding straight toward us, I held my son tight.
I knew it was Owen’s car.
For Ivy, he was willing to risk even his own son’s life.
After the violent crash, both cars collided in a shower of sparks.
I clutched my son tightly, trying desperately to keep my balance in the shaking car.
My forehead hit the glass and everything went black for a moment.
The car door was yanked open.
“Ms. Blake!”
My assistant dragged me out.
I looked down at my son–aside from being scared, I didn’t see any injuries.
Only then did I register the pain in my forehead.
Leaning on my assistant, I saw someone getting out of the mangled car across from us.
Owen Pierce approached me, his face ice–cold.
His bodyguards closed in behind him.
I wasn’t backing down–my bodyguards formed circle after circle around me.
“Nora Blake, I told you not to touch her again.”
“Did you really think I wouldn’t come for you?”
He stopped five meters away, looking like he wanted to kill me.
“Do you know she can’t be a mother anymore? How can you be so evil?”
Hearing this, I actually laughed.
“Mr. Pierce shouldn’t make wild accusations. She got into an accident herself. What does that have to do with me, an innocent businesswoman?”
I emphasized the word “innocent.”
He looked at me with contempt.
“You think I don’t know it was you? After all these years, still resorting to violence. Where did that kind girl from back then go?”

Chapter 4
When he mentioned the past, both our expressions flickered for a moment.
What goes around comes around.
The past can’t be undone.
“Owen!”
Ivy got out of the car and threw herself into Owen’s arms.
“I want her dead! Owen, I can’t be a mother anymore. You have to get revenge for our child!”
She cried hysterically while Owen patiently comforted her.
I just stood there like I was the one getting in the way of two people truly in love.
Ivy tried to charge at me, but Owen held her back.
I poured salt in the wound.
“Well, what can you do? He won’t divorce me, so even if you had his baby, it would just be a bastard child.”
“That’s what you get for being a mistress.”
My tone was full of disdain.
Ivy got so worked up that blood started flowing between her legs again.
“Owen! If you don’t kill her, I’ll kill myself right here!”
She pulled out a fruit knife and held it to her throat.
The usually calm Owen immediately panicked.
He reached out and grabbed the sharp blade.
Ignoring the pain, he had to give his beloved woman a hug.
“Put the knife down! I’ll make this right.”
He signed the divorce papers and threw them at me.
“You could have been Mrs. Pierce for life, but you ruined it all!”
“I have to give her a proper title. We owe her that much.”
Then he left with Ivy in his arms,
Even now, he hadn’t shown any concern for my injuries or even glanced at our child.
My assistant flipped to the property division section to show me.
I shook my head.
“Since he’s not leaving with nothing, I guess I’ll just have to become a widow.”
