Chapter 4
“Blake, I’m so scared! Don’t leave me–I’ll literally DIE without you!”
She was crying, her hands locked around his arm like a vice.
Thinking about how Candy died last time, Blake hesitated for just a moment.
But by the time he looked back up, I’d already collapsed, swallowed by that horrifying darkness.
“RILEY!!!”
Blake’s scream was pure anguish.
“GET SOMEONE TO HELP HER! Please save her!!”
If they got anti–venom fast enough, there might still be hope. But if the snakes ate her completely, how was he supposed to piece his wife back
together?!
“Blake, even if you go down there now, you’ll just get yourself killed. Besides, Riley chose to jump down herself!”
Seeing how much Blake cared about me, Candy finally couldn’t hide her jealous rage.
“No way–Riley hates pain so much, how can she handle this?!”
Blake was practically insane with panic.
“There’s gotta be another way, right?!”
He grabbed a staff member by the shirt, shouting desperately.
“…There is a service tunnel, but that’s just for feeding the snakes, and…”
The worker looked terrified, both from Blake’s grip and from the thought of going down there himself.
“Plus that connects to the tiger enclosure,” Candy added helpfully.
Even if you survived the snake pit, you’d still face hungry tigers who hadn’t tasted blood in ages.
In her mind, I was already dead. No point wasting time on rescue efforts.
But Blake caught something crucial in her tone.
“How do YOU know it connects to the tiger pen?!”
His stare was laser focused.
We were all supposedly first–time visitors here.
Even with his rebirth, he’d never known such insider information.
So how did Candy know?
Unless this whole thing wasn’t as simple as he thought?!
Candy realized she’d slipped up and started avoiding his eyes.
But he didn’t have time to deal with that now–I was still down there, life hanging by a thread.

Chapter 4
Blake roughly shoved Candy’s hands away and had the worker show him to the snake pit entrance.
When he finally cleared out the snakes, all he found was a huge pool of blood.
He remembered Candy mentioning the tiger enclosure on the other side.
But he could barely let himself think about that possibility.
He prayed with every fiber of his being.
Prayed that I hadn’t fallen through to the tiger pen.
But when the staff opened the tiger enclosure door-
Seven or eight tigers were lazily licking their bloody jaws, clearly having just finished a feast.
Not far from them was a pile of mangled flesh and gore.
Mixed in with that pile were scraps of fabric that Blake recognized with soul–crushing despair
