He walked back to his room slowly as he thought of how to navigate his way around Lacey. She was proving stubborn but he noticed the change in her. She was trying to figure out what was wrong with him which made him smile.
He had perfected this character so much that they didn't think there was more to him, his phone beeped in his pocket and he fished it out. Who would be texting him at this time? He wondered as he scrolled through his text inbox.
" Hi, my name is Amelia, I was the lady who came for those paintings that day."
A few people had come tk his shop but he suspected a particular person.
" Is this the model?"
" Yes, I wanted to ask if you've been able to complete the drawings. I know that I shouldn't rush you but I can't help but want to ask what to expect. I've gotten s some clients who are ready to purchase it."
"I'll work on it soon. I'll give you feedback by tomorrow."
" We are close to midnight." She typed a winking emoji and he rolled his eyes.
" Okay, then. I'll let you know before evening, that's better right?"
" Yes."
" Good, so 5.p.m then."
" Yeah."
The conversation ended and he went downstairs to feed his eyes, they were dry from sleep because he didn't sleep for the past two days Lacey spent in the hospital. While the parents went home to freshen up, he remained in the hospital with her although they weren't on talking terms.
"Okay, then," He replied with a smile on his face, if things went well, maybe he would be rich and finally put a smile on Lacey's face which might also help in restoring the lost love.
Then he would look for ways to move out of the house because he was already tired of living under his mother-in-law's terms.
Upon his arrival at the garden, he saw the old man sipping a liquid from the cup and he wondered what the contents were. " Hey, come over here." Mr. Richard beckoned and he stared at him, contemplating his next movement.
He could just pretend as if he didn't didn't see him but that would be rude and he wouldn't like that because Mr. Richard had been nothing short of being nice to him.
" I didn't know you were out here sir." He said with a smile, which was obviously a lie.
Mr. Richard nodded and smirked at the young boy who was trying to play smart.
" So, who told my wife that I was here?"
" I don't know?" Mark shrugged, he wouldn't get involved in a conversation without Mrs. Richard even if his life depended on it.
" It's probably my daughter. I came here to have some peace, I don't want to listen to her rant tonight."
Mark held back a chuckle that threatened to spill out of his lips. Oh, so he wasn't the only person that was not frustrated by her whims and disgusting attitude. It was all good, thank God Lacey didn't take all her nagging, then he would have truly considered divorce.
" Maybe she's just a bit cranky tonight." He defended, trying to play the good son-in-law and Mr. Richard scoffed at his pretense.
"You don't need to say words you don't mean, it's evident that that's her character so what's making her cranky everyday?" Mr. Richard drank his coffee again, " It's getting cold," he said and placed it gently on the table beside him.
" Oh?"
Mr. Richard stared at the sky as a longing look filled his face, " I remember the time she wasn't behaving this way, it was so beautiful. I don't know why she suddenly changed."
Mark found it hard to believe that Mr. Richard had not seen the signs in her but he was determined to cope with it. They were similar in the sense that they loved their women to death and that was the reason that they could afford to put up with most of their shenanigans.
" She was the sweetest person I knew when I was still up and coming but all of a sudden it was as if she switched bodies and a demon possessed her." He gave Mark a look of concern, he looked genuinely puzzled that it made Mark reconsider his stance about his former statement.
" I think that there is a time where people evolve, sir."
Mr. Richard shook his head, he wasn't having it, " this is not a good change, I know that this is just plain wickedness you know, if you were her son she wouldn't have treated you this way, so why treat you like this in the first place?" He queried and Mark sighed.
" I don't know sir. We are still hoping that she comes around."
" I don't think she can, it's almost impossible for her because there's no way that you would make her change. I've tried my best, yet they were as fruitless as not trying at all. Thus I have decided to make sure that I don't give room for any misconduct anymore. I don't know how to go about it though." Mr. Richard said.
Mark kept mum while watching the elderly man, this could be a trap for him, he wasn't going to dive into a matter of spouses, even he wouldn't like it. " I think you should keep talking to her. I believe she will come around one of these days." He advised.
Mr. Richard snorted, he had given up on Stacey changing her ways, she was too stubborn which could be both a good and bad thing. Only that she didn't use it the right way most of the time.
" I think you should..."
"Do what? Divorce me? The way my daughter did? There I was thinking that my husband was busy enjoying nature not knowing that he was gossiping about me. So tell me, what exactly did I do to you mark?" Mrs. Richard interrupted their talk and Mark rolled his eyes
