Chapter 99 Kiss of Betrayal
\[Lilia\]
“I quit… I quit!” I coughed violently and heaved as every part of my body screamed out in agony while sprawling in the middle of the boxing ring.
Sasha’s stern visage looms right above my head, but her eyes sparkled with malice, giving the impression that she was getting ready to subject me to yet another round of torment.
“Get up, Lilia. You barely even last one round,” she aggressively pressed on, slapping her gloved hands on her knees.
I cannot believe this. My body felt numb all over, giving me a quick flashback to the time I was caught on the net when I fell off the building. But the thing is, I am on the cushioned ground, and I am perfectly safe.
That was a little relief.
“I had enough. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into when I said I wanted to train. I quit,” I sputtered out the words, almost out of breath and sweating bullets.
Oh, I totally regret this decision. I didn’t have to stab Kael. I can always poke his eyes out if I want to without going through this whole ordeal. After our last conversation, Kael and I didn’t talk or see each other. I’m not complaining. I didn’t want to see his face, or else my entire mood might be ruined.
I am sure he was busy as well with that woman, Sabina-whatever her name is. That pretty face, no wonder why Kael chose her to marry. Compared to me, I am nothing more than a speck of mere dust that couldn’t be shaken off their shoulder. I don’t have a good feeling about her. Well, she didn’t do anything with me yet, but I have this foreboding feeling that things will go rolling down the hill. And I am just waiting for that band holding everything in line to snap and throw us into haywire. On my fortunate side, he hadn’t gotten rid of me yet.
Yes, I am still hurt. The pain of everything that happened that day still resides heavily in my chest, yet I chose to ignore it and focus on the things I could divert my attention into.
It has been three days since I started my training. On the first day, Sasha and Val did nothing more than get my body ready by having me do some light stretching and warming up. On the second day, they taught me some fundamental methods for manhandling. It was fun till now, and I have to knock Sasha down using everything I learned yesterday. Hours passed, and I had already exhausted my energy, yet I hadn’t laid a touch on her, not even a single strand of her hair, nor ever noticed that she had broken a sweat dodging all my failed attempts. While I, on the other hand, was panting like a rabid dog. My tongue stuck out, gasping like crazy. My throat felt like it was filled with cotton, and the sensation in my mouth was like sand.
“Get up, sweet cake, you can do it,” Val called out an encouragement while he stood right outside the ring.
I tilt my head to the side and look at him. He held out both his hands, motioning me to get up. I let out a loud groan and rolled to my side. My face wincing with pain as I pushed myself up on all fours, bracing my gloved hands and knees on the cushioned surface to support my weight. I hang my head low, watching the beads of sweat dripping from my brows, chin, and nose. My heart still beating raggedly.
“Come on, Lilia. I thought you wanted to punch someone,” Sasha seconded Val. She dropped down to my level and put her hand on my under my chin, lifting my head and looking at me in the eyes. “You’ve already started this shit. There’s no going back, you understand that?”
She reminded me of how I got myself in this situation, and it was purely, entirely my decision without any influence, aside from the cool moves I’ve seen Sasha do when fighting a giant man. I desperately wanted to be like her and got excited, went over the moon at the thought of imagining myself capable of doing it myself.
I just nodded to what she said and stood on both feet, though my upper torso bent forward and my hands were on my knees for support.
“Please, just let me take a break. Water break…” I panted heavily, letting out a long sigh and swallowing a huge lump of saliva, hoping to quench my thirst, but it was a fruitless attempt.
“Fine,” Sasha finally consented and allowed me outside the ring. I quickly staggered my way down, almost tripping with my own footing as I stumbled down from the platform and went to the side to get my tumbler, but soon as I picked it up, the container was already empty.
I look around me and see Val grinning like a Cheshire cat. I gave him a hard glare and lifted my tumbler to provide him with the emphasis. This giant emptied my bottle.
“Sorry, I drank it while you were on the ring,” he yelled, one hand cupped to the side of his mouth since they were in the center while I was on the side.
“Seriously?...Urgh! Never mind, I’ll get more inside,” I yelled back, huffing in annoyance. I'm as parched as a camel and desperately in need of water to stay hydrated, but I completely forgot that there was a much larger camel inside the gym that drained all of my water bottle.
Aya had been busy this morning with her chores, and I could not disturb her just because I needed water that I could obviously fetch myself. I also hoped that those three bitches mice weren’t bothering her anymore. Though I know they had already learned their lesson when Kael slapped one of them.
“Be fast,” Sasha’s voice echoed in the background as I made my way toward the exit. However, because she insisted that I move quickly, I purposely slowed down my pace.
“I had extremely short legs!”
I was giggling by the time I got outside. I let out a long, deep breath as the cool air touched my sweat-slick body. Then, I made my way down to the back entrance of the mansion, which runs directly towards the kitchen. I entered the door, paved the hallway, and reached the foyer to the kitchen when I saw two people standing in front of the kitchen counter.
It was Kael and Sabina. I immediately halted in my tracks and stared at them. They seemed to be talking, but I couldn’t hear any words they were saying. Though Kael’s back was on me, Sabina, on the other hand, could see me perfectly if she turned her attention in my direction.
I could not move. My feet are nailed to the ground. Just watch them. The pain that I had been ignoring for three days started crawling back in. I had never seen them being together after they got home, but now that I am staring at them, I can see how well suited they were for each other.
Sabina suddenly turned her head in my direction, and her eyes went wide a little bit, surprised to see me standing right in the foyer. We hadn’t talked yet, and I only heard her voice the first time when she asked Kael if I was alright after the fight, but I didn’t know if she was a good person or not. I am not a very good judge of character.
Kael must have noticed her staring at something. He was about to turn his head over her shoulder, but Sabina swiftly brought her hands to his face, cupping both sides, and the next thing she did broke my heart into shards.
She raises herself up onto the tips of her toes to reach Kael’s height, draws his face closer to hers, and gives him a passionate kiss on the lips.
