Chapter 71 Ambush in Venice
After the last bullet from his magazine flew through the air and lodged itself into the head of his adversary, Val loaded his gun and prepared to fire again.
Flavio Clemente was supposed to have died years ago. After they tried to double-cross Kael and almost lost the cargo worth a hundred billion dollars here from Italy to Russia.
Even though Kael had already finalized the trade and made the cash, the Clemente’s attempted to highjack the ship and take all of the things that were contained within the container van after the transaction had been completed.
When Kael found out what those cretins had done to his cargo, he went into a frenzy and became extremely belligerent. Flavio and his father thought that they already crossed Kael and outsmarted him, but they didn’t know that he was possessed by some demon whenever he gets angry.
Val and Kael turned to their hideout, taking everything Clemente owned and destroying their place. Kael killed the old Clemente and thought that he also killed Flavio. Even Val thought the same way. He saw him get a bullet shot in the chest and Kael set the entire Clemente estate into bits. Yet, here they are now, facing the wrath of a vengeful bastard.
To put this another way, Val was pretty amazed that after so many years had passed, Flavio had managed to pull himself up from the ashes and gather these men to fight beside him. The question is, where did he get all the money?
Val felt a tingle from the back of his neck and immediately sensed that something was coming his way. He turned around and saw a man was about to smack him with a butt of a gun. He quickly dodges the blow to the side and lifted his elbow, drawing it back before striking his opponent right under the jaw with such force that he heard a sickening crunch.
The next thing that he did is sweep his leg, which causes his opponent to lose his balance. After that, he delivers another punch into the other side of his jaw, which causes the bone to dislocate and sends a tooth flying into the air. Val was not yet finished. He became annoyed, not at his adversary but at himself as well for allowing his thoughts to drift off while he was still in the midst of the tussle.
To let out his irritation, he took a little blade that he had hidden on his belt and rammed it into the hollow of his adversary's neck. The man grumbled as he drew his final breath while his eyes continued to look directly at him despite the sudden outburst of blood that came pouring out of him like a fountain. Probably cursing him out in his brain, but Val couldn't really care less about what was going on there.
In his lifetime, he had already been subjected to a number of curses, but none of them had been successful. Perhaps he already possessed a space in the lowest levels of hell, where all of the people he had murdered must be patiently waiting for him to arrive. Maybe Satan himself might welcome him with a parade.
But it is in no way the case right now. Well maybe when he was in his sixties, even though he seriously doubted he'd live to be that old.
Val wipes the spatter of blood that sprayed into his face as he ripped the blade out of the flesh of the guy he had just killed and murmurs to himself with the amusements of this thought.
He turned around his gaze over the place. A rain of bullets came whizzing past him and he instantly rolled into his back, hiding behind the large concreted pillar, covering the top of his head from the falling bits of debris.
“Fuck! I’m going to need a hard drink after this.” He muttered under his breath as he checked his weapon, wondering if he had actually replaced the magazine and was not just making things up as he had been doing for the past few minutes. It was obvious that he had his mind elsewhere more often than it was on the here and now.
They have separated their ways soon as they entered the place. His boss has set his mind on taking Lilia back while he was instructed to eliminate every man around this place and find Aya. Val wanted that it was going to be him to take her back, yet he knows his place and Kael felt something for the girl.
This is only the first time that he ever felt for someone after his mother died. They had known each other ever since they were young boys, and Val's father was Kael's dad's right hand, which is the same position that Kael holds in the mob at the present time.
How can a petite woman stir something so big? Val immediately recognized that Lilia was quite unique in comparison to the other people the first time they met, and Kael seems to have noticed the same thing when watching the live feed that Val had set up for him during the auction.
After Flavio’s call, he tried to lose them by giving the wrong address and planned to ambush them there, but Kael was quick to his senses and busted the assassination ahead and used the caller ID to track the location of where the call was coming from. Flavio hasn’t been too discreet in tampering with his line, so they were able to track him down right in the middle of the city where he hides his bunkers.
It was just a small place. A closed building was listed for a lease with a huge placard on the outside, but this rat was nesting and seems like he was rebuilding his mafia.
Venice is romantic alright for tourists, due to its stunning scenery and other attributes. No wonder Lilia and Aya had been set on visiting this place. Right beyond all the amorous atmosphere, there is also a seedy underbelly where various criminal syndicates thrive. That is why Kael didn’t let the girls go out alone, and deployed a whole team of security to guard them, yet they were all rendered useless, putting them into this predicament. On the other hand, the fact that they found out sooner that Flavio is still alive is one of the few silver linings to this cloudy situation.
Val cocks his gun and peeked a bit from the pillar and sighted his next target. He saw one right above the baluster near the side of the stairs. He pointed his gun, aiming, he evened out his breath and then pull the trigger. The man fell down the stair, bearing a bullet hole in his head. Two down and many to go, though it wasn’t that hard eliminating these hooligans.
Clemente's forces were not as powerful as they had been in the past, and it appears that Flavio had been recruiting inexperienced novices rather than seasoned veterans to fill out his ranks. Val veered his gaze around the vicinity, clearing all the remaining men that stood in his way down to the basement where he extracted a piece of information that Aya was there. He doesn’t know if Lilia too, but Kael was already on that. Val was a large man, and basically, all the goons he fought were considered as midget compared to him.
He exhales a sigh of contentment before unleashing a powerful punch directly on the face of the man whom he had been holding by the collar. Pinned against the wall and he did it again two more times until his teeth fell out of his mouth and his eyeballs bulged out from the socket before Val dropped the now lifeless man into the floor and then continued walking down the spiraling stairs down to the basement.
