Ch 24: Elysia Nightshade
"Who are you?" Emrys asked.
The girl was also frowning as she observed him from a distance. When she saw Emrys on guard and asking a question, she relaxed a little. Instead of answering, she asked, "Were you sent here by the Broken Star Alliance to save someone or for mission #1507?"
Emrys was stunned. He couldn’t help but ask again, "How do you know about mission #1507?"
Just like the girl, he answered her question with a question.
At the same time, he focused on her earlier question. She had asked whether he was with the Broken Star Alliance to save someone or for mission #1507. This meant she had not betrayed humanity. Emrys relaxed his guard a little, but he still hadn't let go of his suspicions entirely.
The girl didn't speak for a little while. She kept observing him and then stepped forward while saying, "I am Elysia Nightshade, a member of Broken Star Alliance and the commander of 1st Combat Division."
While speaking, she threw something at Emrys.
Emrys instinctively caught it and saw that it was her Alliance Card that proved her identity. He didn't expect to come across a high-ranking officer and a member of Broken Star Alliance.
A member of Broken Star Alliance is completely different from other espers or even commanders of several divisions. Only the best of the best can become a member of Broken Star Alliance.
Not only was Elysia Nightshade a member of Broken Star Alliance, but she was also the commander of the 1st Combat Division. This alone proved how strong the person in front of him was. He can guess she is at least a Seventh Star Esper.
It has to be known that the strongest in the Broken Star Alliance are Eighth Star Espers. Being a Seventh Star Esper is already an achievement that not many Espers could achieve.
Emrys finally relaxed completely. He tried to look for his identity that could prove his status as a newly recruited soldier. It was given to him when he first joined the 3rd Combat Division's 30th Suicide Squad. Unfortunately, it seems he had lost his identity somewhere.
Sighing, Emrys introduced himself, "My name is Emrys Starfall. I came here with the 17th Squad to complete mission #1507."
Elysia arrived in front of Emrys while nodding her head.
"I guessed that much. You are too weak to save me after all!" She muttered and then asked him to explain what happened.
In the end, Emrys explained everything that happened from the moment he entered the 30th Suicide Squad.
Elysia raised her brows and muttered, "You are truly lucky to survive twice on the same mission. This mission isn't simple. We need to get back to the Sixth Line of Defense. I warned them before, but those old fools completely ignored me. We can't send ordinary Espers to fight this battle. We need a squad made up of Sixth and Seventh Star Espers, and even in that squad, we must have the leadership of at least one Eighth Star Esper. Otherwise, this mission is impossible!"
The more she spoke, the more frustrated she became.
Emrys was stunned again, not expecting to hear something like this from her.
This mission was for a very strong force to complete. What the fuck is the Broken Star Alliance doing by sending suicide squads?
Just because they are members of the suicide squad doesn't mean they have to commit suicide by going on an impossible mission.
Taking a deep breath, Emrys tried to calm his raging heart.
"Can I ask something?"
"Yes," Elysia said while moving towards the river. She then used the river water to clean her face and then drank some water.
Emrys wasn’t thirsty, but his hunger was growing stronger by the minute.
"What are you doing on the Insectoid Island?"
Elysia raised her brows and replied, "You don't think information about Hellfire Swarmflies was obtained by the Broken Star Alliance out of nowhere, right?"
Emrys immediately understood. This information was sent to the Broken Star Alliance by Elysia. It also meant she came to the Insectoid Island to investigate.
Elysia continued to speak, "Not long after the Seventh Line of Defense was destroyed, I discovered strange behaviors among a certain type of insectoids. They were Hellfire Swarmflies and Voidfrost Weevils."
"Generally, no Royal Insectoids come to our world; however, Royals of these four types of insectoids did exactly that. I sensed their arrival, so I came to Insectoid Island to investigate. That’s when I found out these two types of Insectoids are planning to attack the Sixth Line of Defense very soon. They’re just waiting to gather a massive army. When I was discovered, they started chasing me. They destroyed my craft and dispatched a huge army of Sixth and Seventh Star Insectoids to catch me. I couldn't escape the island under their watch, but I still managed to send news of their plan back to the Broken Star Alliance, asking them to send a powerful force of at least Sixth and Seventh Star Espers to strike the Hellfire Swarmfly and Voidfrost Weevil nests. At the same time, I requested a small group of espers to retrieve me."
"But you told me the mission was only to destroy the Hellfire Swarmflies. There was no mention of Voidfrost Weevils. This confirms someone high up in the Broken Star Alliance is betraying humanity. They're helping myriad alien races to destroy us humans, all for personal gain. That's exactly how they managed to destroy the Seventh Line of Defense in just three years."
Maybe it has been too long since Elysia spoke to someone, she talked a lot and gave Emrys many information.
He was shocked to learn that Hellfire Swarmflies and Voidfrost Weevils were both planning to attack the Sixth Line of Defense.
Dan clearly told him and others that although Hellfire Swarmflies are very powerful, they would not encounter Royal Hellfire Swarmflies.
However, Elysia was saying that Royal Hellfire Swarmflies and Royal Voidfrost Weevils were all already here, planning their attack.
This was shocking information that shook his heart to the core.
Furthermore, the most terrifying information he obtained was that one or maybe more higher-ups in the Broken Star Alliance have already betrayed humanity, taking the side of alien races.
