Ch 23: A Girl In A Torn Armor

Emrys looked around and saw he was in a strange eerie place. Towering dark trees could be seen everywhere in the distance. Their branches were twisted and covered in thick, heavy moss. The leaves above were so dense that only a little sunlight broke through, casting dim patches of light on the forest floor. The air felt thick and damp, almost as if it was pressing down on him.

The ground where he was standing was soft and muddy from the river water, and strange plants with large, spiky leaves grew everywhere. Some plants had glowing blue flowers that seemed to pulse softly in the dim light casting an unnatural glow over the area.

"I am hungry," Emrys muttered while touching his belly.

Unfortunately, there was nothing to eat.

"How is this possible..."

However, Emrys' hunger soon turned into shock and surprise. It is because he finally saw his gaze finally fall on his arm that had regrown. He hurriedly lowered his gaze and saw a brand new leg. He could not believe his eyes at all.

Emrys pinched his thigh hard, and the pain told him that he was not dreaming. His arm and leg have truly grown again.

"How is this possible? How did my arm and leg regrow again?" Emrys rubbed his eyes, and suddenly, a thought flashed past his mind.

During the first time he was on the Insectoid Island, he had killed a Voidfrost Weevil with a bomb in desperation. That Voidfrost Weevil was different from the ordinary ones. It had golden strips all over its body, something Emrys had never seen before.

Emrys had never laid eyes on a Voidfrost Weevil with golden strips before, but he had heard and read about those with bronze and silver strips. Mainly those Silver-striped Voidfrost Weevils. They are usually the leaders of a swarm and rarely appear in the crowd.

Although Emrys does not have any fighting experiences, he has read a lot of books about myriad races. His dream had always been to join the frontline and fight for humanity. That's why, he knows several things that newly recruited espers don't know. He knows that Voidfrost Weevils cannot be killed lightly. If someone wanted to kill a Voidfrost Weevil, they needed to blow up the brains of those Voidfrost weevils with bronze strips and silver strips. Otherwise, Voidfrost Weevils would heal and regenerate themselves with their strong regenerative ability after a short period of time.

He also knows that Bronze-striped Voidfrost Weevils are merely soldiers and don't have intelligence. Silver-striped Voidfrost Weevils are leaders and can think like humans. The Voidfrots Weevils are famous for their space and ice-related abilities, and their strong healing and regenerative powers.

"Perhaps I've also gained some kind of regeneration ability?" Emrys was internally both happy and scared. He was happy that with this ability, his chances of survival on the battlefield would be greatly improved. But at the same time, he was afraid of being found out. He was human and everyone knows that his ability is Echo Sense. Moreover, the chief in command of the 3rd Combat Division and a few other higher-ups already knew that his arm and leg had been replaced by robotic arm and leg. He doesn't know what would happen if they were to know his arm and leg had grown out again.

Despite being a little worried, Emrys remained glad in his heart. He had regained his lost arm, and that was more joyous than anything else.

Qin Hao had no idea whether it was because the insectoid's power had been activated or not, but his aching and weak body had recovered to its best condition. The only thing was the growing hunger in his stomach.

"I have to read more about Voidfrost Weevils when I return back to the frontline," Emrys muttered inwardly. Although he guessed his arm regenerated due to him obtaining some kind of regenerative ability from the Golden-striped Voidfrost Weevil, he was not sure yet. He has to read and gather more information about Voidfrost Weevils first.

It was very important for him to know what was happening to him.

Suddenly, Emrys felt a pair of eyes observing him.

He frowned and looked in his right direction, and was stunned to see a very beautiful girl standing dozens of meters away from him, observing him silently. She wore an armor that was not so ordinary. Emrys could tell it was the recently developed armor by the Broken Star Alliance. He had seen them before on the news feed and television advertisement. This armor was an XT-300 Starfallen Armor that could cover a person's entire body. It can not only defend against powerful attacks, but it also has the ability to explode with energy that could destroy the surroundings.

Of course, energy explosion has to be used conservatively because this ability consumes the armor's power source. Once the power source is completely used up, it would be no different from any other ordinary armor.

Aside from energy explosion, this armor can refract light from its surroundings and turn invisible.

Yes, the armor itself doesn't turn invisible. It uses science. It uses the concept of light refraction to deceive the eyes, making a person believe there is nothing. Thus, achieving invisibility.

Its price is sky-high, something Emrys could not even dream to buy for the time being. He lacks the money to buy even ordinary armor, let alone the XT-300 Starfallen Armor.

What shocked Emrys the most was that this powerful armor was already in tatters. It was broken in several places. The girl's state was also not looking good. Her hair was disheveled, her face was dirty, her armor was torn and several parts of her body were exposed.

It was clear she had gone through one or several tough battles, but somehow survived until now.

Emrys immediately put up his guard. He doesn't know who she is. Although she was a human, the question is, what was she doing on the Insectoid Island?

Could it be that she has betrayed humanity?

Emrys was sure that she definitely had not come with him or other squads on this island. Because before coming, he had seen everyone, even people from the other suicide squads.

That's why, Emrys was already alert.
