Chapter 54 Breather
Chapter 54 Breather
LAURA'S POV:
The cheerful mood still hung in the air through out breakfast that morning, it felt like we had won a small victory and as we sat together for breakfast everyone was in a good mood. It was already rare for us to eat together these days, so having to do that twice in a roll added to the cheerful mood.
Ryan showed up to take me to the studio some time past ten a.m, we got to the studio barely in time.
We ran in to Jaxon the moment we stepped out of the car. He had also driven in to the garage the same time as us. He came out, looking his usual cold and arrogant self. His infamous secretary was in tow behind him.
“Good Morning Mr. Jaxon.” Ryan greeted him.
He gave a curt nod to acknowledge his greeting and his eyes did a small flip to me, making my heart leap. He scowled and look away.
“Good Morning, Mr. Jaxon.” I greeted. He grunted something I couldn't make out in his throat and waved to his secretary. Who gave us an apologetic smile and fell in tow behind him, as he trotted out of the garage proud as a peacock.
Ryan looked at me curiously. “Did something happen between you two?”
I frowned. Was it that obvious.
But I tried to keep my face straight as I shook my head. “Does Precious Mr. Jaxon's cockiness ever have anything to do with me?”
“No.” He admitted, but he sti looked a bit skeptical. “It's just unusual for him to act this way towards you. He never does...”
He paused in his speech as my fierce glare hit him in the face.
He swallowed the words back in. “Sorry, I didn't mean to say that.”
“You better had not.” I snapped and walked out of the garage. I hated it even more when people tried to tie me up to Jaxon every fucking damn time.
I didn't speak to Ryan untill we entered the building and headed for the elevator. As I reached to key in the floor details, he stepped forward.
“Let me do that. I'm sorry about earlier.” He apologized again as he made for the keypad.
I nodded. “It's nothing serious, just get us inside already.”
His eyes broke into a smile as he jabbed his hands and entered the floor number in to the keypad. We waited for almost a minute before the compartment doors slithered open and we entered the carriage.
Ryan took a peek at his wristwatch, while I leaned back on the handrail, and held my breath in. Footsteps thudded outside the elevator just as the door was closing in.
We both looked up as a hand slid into the nearly closed elevator, forcing the doors jerking backwards.
I frowned, there was something familiar about this scene. I had lived this before, I had seen this fucking very scene play out almost three months back.
I held my breath, my knuckles whitened as I gripped the handrail, while my eyes waited for who ever was outside to surface.
Was it Jaxon?
Of course, it was him— He cocked his head backwards as his eyes landed on my face. He smirked and strutted in, not paying me a second glance.
Didn't he go in before us? Why was he back in the elevator with us?
I frowned as his cologne claimed the air. Hating it like I hated him. His secretary sneaked in and the doors shut back behind us.
“I'm sorry for the inconvenience, we thought since we were heading the same way, we could join you. Hope that's fine.” His Secretary tried to smoothen things with Ryan.
He nodded. “Sure, it is.”
Jaxon grimaced at his wristwatch and slid his two hands in to his trousers. He was uneasy and he wasn't hiding it.
He was nervous sharing a ride with me.
Jaxon Fallon was fucking uncomfortable sharing a ride with the woman he try to ruin. And seeing him that way made me smile, I felt my stomach bubble with happiness. The first time I had seen him after all those years, stepping in to that carriage at the Gala, I was shakened and frightened, panicked and nervous. Powerlessly watching him flanked by his throng of security guards walk back in to my life, reopening the scar. But that wasn't anymore now. Not today. I was finally able to see him shakened and uncomfortably nervous, because I was sharing a ride with him.
Big plot twist, baby.
My heart did a small flip flop as I watched him. A couple more minutes, and the carriage reached our destination. He was the first to rush out once the door slithered back.
I chuckled softly and followed suit. His figure disappeared ahead of us, in to the studio. We entered after him. I greeted the producers with a rare smile feeling cheerful. Jenna was barking away outside in the threshold, on a call with whoever it was on the phone. I waved at her and sank my ass in to an empty seat in the corner. Ryan went to have a word with the producers, probably discussing about the tracks we were preparing to record today.
I pulled out my phone and scrolled lazily through as a pass time. While waiting for my band members to come in. I wasn't a much fan of social media, although Ryan handled that and every other thing, but today something led me to click on the Instagram icon. The site loaded up immediately,
My balls almost dropped from the load of messages I saw on the screen. Wasn't Ryan attending to them.
I drew a deep breath and click on the messenger icon. The messages loaded up, all the usual fan talk and celebrities crooning. Nothing serious, I was about zoning out, when my eyes caught sight of a Dr. Williams Coulson.
Williams?
I tapped on the message icon and the text popped up.
Hi, this is Dr. Williams. I haven't seen you in a while. So I wanted to check if you were alright.
Another message read.
Hi, Laura. How's Ria doing? I hope she's fine and not having any more reactions.
Wonder if you could join me for a coffee sometime, if you're not too busy.
Seriously?
Hi, I don't know if you are alright. I heard the news and everything the media were saying about you and Fallon. Hope you're good?
I couldn't read all the messages, I scrolled through them to the more recent one. Why was he double texting even when he wasn't getting any reply.
People were really hopeful.
I clicked the keypad and typed a “Hi.”
And sent him that.
I zoned out of the app, turned off my mobile data and looked up. Just in time to catch Jaxon staring at me intently.
Immediately our gaze met, he looked away.
I chuckled and stowed my phone away in to my puffer jacket. I was loving this. Even though it wasn't worth half the pain he caused me. It was still something still.
It was still a breather. A Jaxon free day.
And many more Jaxon free days to come.
