Chapter 53 Falling for the wrong one.
Chapter 53 Falling for the wrong one.
JAXON’S POV:
I fought back the urge to leap out of the car and tear them apart from each other. I gripped the steering wheel tightly.
If anyone was going to hug her, it had to be me. Talk more of pecking her!
How could VIXEN be married with a kid, married to this man. My eyes burned with hate as I watched them, I tried to bottle in the rage stirring through me
“Damn it!” I spat out and my hands dashed to ease the hand brake loose, I took a final hateful look at them both cuddled up together and stepped on the gas pedal. The car swung out of the curb as I steered the wheel furiously, controlling it safely back into the road.
A searing pain was shooting through me. But I didn't want to look back at them, huddled together and hugging. Shit!
She had even smiled so brightly like I had never seen her do, all the time she had been with me. Not that she smiled often though.
How could she do this? How could she let me love her and want her when she was all someone else's.
I sighed. This was the first time, I had really wanted someone this badly, so badly.
I slapped a palm on the steering wheel, honking at a crawling car in front of me. Why the fuck were people hugging and pecking each other!
And stupid drivers who could do better as babysitters and not drivers.
“Get out of my way.” I growled but not loud enough. I was sweating despite the cool night air. Which only added to my anger.
I took a long drag of air into my lungs to steady myself before hitting the car horn again.
The car only crawled a few feet away, but still stood in my path. I craned my neck through the window and glared at the car.
“Will you get out of the way?” I yelled at the top of my voice. The car shifted a bit to the side giving me a small opening to pass through. I pressed down on the accelerator and sailed forward, overtaking the stupid driver in about a minute.
I stuck my middle finger through the open window at his face, whoever it was. I didn't care. The tires squealed loudly on the sidewalk as I pushed past him.
Crazy drivers, crazy fucking world filled with stupid reporters and silly women who had to run off with men who didn't deserve them. Leaving the good men like us to stare at them hugging and pecking themselves after a free ride.
Why couldn't she call her husband to give her the damn ride!
Shit!
I ran a hand through my hair, frustration welling up in my heart. I gave out another long sigh and reached out for my phone.
I needed to get that drink and now! I needed Paul, bless his soul. I searched up his number and hit the redial button. The phone rang up, Once. Twice.
At the third ring, Paul's husky voice filtered through the speakers. “Hello, Jax. How'd you?”
“Hey, pal. Are you still up at your hick bat?” I asked, cupping the phone to my ear while steering the wheel with one hand.
I could already pick up the sound of music and excited chattering from his background. So I already knew what the answer would be.
“Sure man.” He replied. “What's up, you sound like someone just stole your chick for the night?”
I sighed. That was close. “I'll see you, I'm on my way.”
“Alright then.”
I clicked the end button and tossed the phone to the passenger's seat.
Closing my two hands round the steering wheel, I tried to shove Laura Jacobs out of my mind and focus on driving and getting the car off the road. Safe at Paul's. But pushing Laura out of my mind was really fucking impossible.
I couldn't shake off that hug and pecking.
I gripped the wheel tightly and screwed my eyes on the road. It took me about fifteen minutes to reach Paul's.
White lights glared out through the entire premises, illuminating the whole place. And soft music could be heard from the big house. I parked the car behind an old towing van in the yard and walked the distance to the bar's entrance.
Immediately I entered, I stood at the entrance scanning the whole place with my eyes until I caught sight of Paul walking slowly towards me.
“You look like shit!” He exclaimed, pulling me away to our private room.
I slumped down on the couch and grunted. “If you witnessed half of what I have, in the last twenty four hours. I'm sure you wouldn't be any better.”
He chuckled softly and strolled to the bar, to get us drinks.
“So you and your girlfriend took a stroll and got in the papers, huh?”
“She's not my girlfriend.” I snapped angrily, hating her, no. Not really, because I couldn't for the life of me hate her. It was that man.
Paul returned back and handed me a glass of liquor, which I chugged down immediately.
“So what's up with you, did you have a roll with her again?” Paul asked staring at me.
I shook my head with a sigh. “No, man. She's..” I closed my eyes trying to get the words out of my throat.
“She's what Jax?” Paul pressed on.
“She's fucking married with a kid.” I blurted out.
“That's not right.” He frowned.
“What do you mean that's not right, I saw them with my own two eyes.”
“When?”
“Tonight.” I spat out and looked away, past him at the bar in the distance. He stared at me for a while, not saying anything. And I liked it that way, atleast.
“Tell me what happened” He said slowly, softly.
I turned my face to him and shook my head with a sigh.
“If you didn't want to tell me, why did you come here then.” He asked, looking me square in the eye.
I couldn't find an answer to that, so I looked away again at my empty glass. “Get me a refill and I'll tell you.”
And he did, I gulped down the whole glass again, feeling the alcohol numb the dull pain in my chest before I painfully retold the whole story. Every damn thing, How Laura was supposed to be my chase, only for me to find out tonight she was married with a kid and a god-damned husband.
Paul didn't say anything while I told him everything, only sipping his beer slowly and smiling at me.
I frowned at the end of the story and glared at him. “Why the fuck are you smiling?”
“Oh, nothing.” He dropped his glass down. “It's just that this whole story is damn crazy.”
“You bet.”
He nodded, stifling a laughter that only further irritated me. “So what the hell are you laughing about?”
“Okay, okay.” He tried to hold it in. “I have a question for you.”
I sat back in the chair, “ What's it you want to know.”
“Are you in love with her?”
No way!
I opened my mouth to say something, but suddenly realized my throat was dry. Too dry. So I reached over and picked up his glass and drained it in one gulp.
He was still staring at me, the question hanging in the air.
I guess “Yes.” I said in a defeated tone.
Paul's smile widened. “If you want her. go get her, man.
I stared at him strangely. Was he kidding? How could I possibly go after a married lady with a kid.
With a fucking kid!
