Chapter 50 Unattainable
Chapter 50 Unattainable
Laura's POV:
I thought I found you uh! (i thought I found you)
I fell in love with the devil in your eyes(could swear)
Thought you were heaven
But no, you were all lies
Gave you my trust, you turned it to dust.
Now there are demons in my head.
And they're screaming your name.
What we shared—
Didn't you say this was forever.
I thought you meant the love,
But no, it's this pulsing pain just right here.
I miss the way you used to hold me close
But that same touch left me comatose.
Heart racin' fast like an overdose.
Broken souls, yeah we both overdosed!
(Overdosed) Yeah, we both overdosed!
\[Broken Souls ~ VIXEN 2038\]
Unattainable. Cold. Disturbed.
I knew that, I wasn't after all stupid, But all I had to do— was just one mission: getting close to Jaxon Fallon and ruining him for good. And I tried to keep my mind on that even though lately he had been acting all nice and strange in a lot of ways, I kept reminding myself of just what I had to do— I couldn't give Jaxon my heart or my future or even the greater chunk of my presence.
But I was failing woefully at that, I still found myself giving him something, some stupid fuel to run on— Despite my best efforts and how much I didn't want anything to do with him, I still unconsciously gave him something— which I couldn't really figure out.
I didn't know.
I always tried to look nonchalant everytime I saw him, but the next moment he'd do something that'd make my heart leap to my throat. And I hated how he'd that so easily, bending me so willfully without permission.
WITHOUT MY PERMISSION!
I slid off the headphones from my ear and came out of the recording booth and…there he was, looking back at me from the threshold.
I swallowed hard and dragged my eyes away from him, back to the producers— fuzzing to master the third track. It was going to take so much time to do that, but the finished product was worth it.
Worth all the noise and media propagandas I had, had to endure all through today if Jaxon— shit!
My heart leaped as I thought of him again.
I didn't want to acknowledge him but I was grateful to him regardless for clearing the air, if he hadn't intervened we'd probably postpone today's recording to some other time.
“Laura, you really out did yourself this time.” Jenna said with a smile, as she stood beside me.
I met her smile with a weak, tired one. “Thank You.”
Jenna's eyes shone, her cheeks had a natural pink hue and her skin was much more smoother. But there were bags under her eyes, although less prominent. They were still there.
And that reminded me of how much every member of my band had put in to this, working their ass off, fending off media attacks and all, just so we could put this together.
I did a mental reconnaissance of everything that had gone on in the last forty eight hours and I realized again with a stiffening jolt, That Jaxon had been the highlight of everything. Shit!
I hated that, but I was grateful too for the jacket the other night, holding the car door open and even sticking his neck out today to address the press.
My stomach rolled up knitting a knot of some kind.
This was an entirely different Jaxon all, not the crazy young sex maniac I had ran into that night in that corridor. BUT HE WAS STILL A MANIAC
“What's going on?” Jenna whispered. “You look freaked out.”
“Ugh,” I tried to gather myself together in to a smile, which came out as though I had a bad tooth ache.
“It's nothing, I'm just tired. I think I'll just head home now, it's been a long day.”
She nodded, but her eyes still studied me suspiciously like I was hiding something.
I turned away from her and picked up my jacket and slipped it over my shoulders.
Ryan who had been bustling with the producers turned to me, putting down his headphones. He arched his neck to give me an incredulous look. “What? Laura, are you leaving?”
I zipped up the jacket with a small nod. “Yeah, I'm a bit tired.”
“Ugh, but you didn't come with your car and I can't take you home since we're still up here.” He pointed out.
I shrugged. “I can just get a cab.”
“Not a chance!” Jenna snapped. I frowned, furrowing my eyebrows at her.
“With all the buzz you got in today, do you think you can just hop on a cab? You can't even do that on a normal day.”
I nodded slowly, I had temporarily forgotten how miserable it was to be VIXEN. Even something so casual as taking a cab home was an impossible feat for the Almighty VIXEN.
“I'll take her home.” Someone announced immediately from outside the room, breaking the silence. Heads snapped about and turned to the threshold. I jerked my head up also and my eyes landed on him— Jaxon!
What? Why was he offering to take me home?
I eyed him suspiciously, with my tongue stuck to my throat.
“I'll take her home.” He repeated walking in to the studio, “You all can focus on your work.”
“But..” Ryan's voice trailed off as his head snapped back to me— The whole room followed his gaze.
His mouth was still hanging loose, trying to phrase whatever he was going to say when Jaxon cut him off as if he knew just what he was going to say.
“Don't worry, she will be safe with me. No one would dare try anything, if she's with me.”
Did I hear right?
Did Jaxon just say I would be safe with him?
With him of all people?
My breath hitched in my throat as stared at him unable to hide my surprise.
What the fuck was going on here?
“That's true.” Jenna asserted with a nod, turning her head to look at me.
Everyone was waiting for me to make a decision.
Was I going to take a ride with this monster again? No, no!
Everything was getting complicated. Too complicated.
“So what's it going to be Laura.” Someone asked, I didn't know who.
I breathed loudly through my throat. “I don't know.”
“I'll take that as a yes, then.” The voice came again, it was Jaxon. In a few strides he closed the distance between us and the next second, his hands fell on mine and he pulled me.
My heart raced, I lifted my eyes to meet his.
He smiled gently and tightened his grip on my hand. “Let's go Laura.”
And he pulled me away.
