CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE

CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE

“Wesley and His new girlfriend Lillian are just so not compatible, they are just deceiving themselves for the benefits they have from each other, always quarreling, one time I heard that Ethan almost hit her”, she whispered, her voice laced with disgust.

“What the hell… is that true?… that’s unlike Ethan, at least I know him not to be that, how much he has changed already”, my heart sank apologetically.

“What happened to him? He has always been level-headed but not this… I don’t even understand what’s up with him” My face fell again as my heart grew heavy.

Maybe it was my fault after all.

“There’s a scandal about a missing file or device, I don’t know what it is but Lillian has been ranting about it, I think it’s the cause of their misunderstandings.

Two days ago Lillian burst into the office, ranting from the gate down to Ethan’s desk about how ungrateful Ethan is and how he betrayed her, calling him a cheat and liar, I wonder who he cheated with already, it’s not even up to a month of them being together”, Sarah shrugged.

My guilt drained me further, I had a good idea of what Sarah was talking about, I knew Lillian wasn’t calling Ethan a cheat because of another woman, she thought he had given out the device or so, which was stolen by me.

A lump formed in my throat, I tried to swallow hard to clear it but it just wasn’t working, I was choking— choking on my sins and my guilt.

“Maybe Lillian should take it easy on him, you know… sit and talk things out, they are nice people, and very educated”, I murmured, my eyes fixed on the ground.

“Just look at you feeling remorseful”, she laughed loudly.

“The same educated set of people that has tormented you so much, They still mock and insult you even in your absence, girl you need to… we need to get off their lips because even I feel bad when I hear these things” Sarah advised.

I nodded, and after a short pause, I let out the thought I had kept pondering in my mind, “I want to start up my very own perfume business”, I announced with a smile, a surge of determination bursting through me.

I hadn’t made this decision before now, I just did so as I talked with Sarah, being under people was sickening.

“Woah”, Sarah jumped up, “that’s huge, girl I trust in you, I mean… this aspect, no one else but you, it suits you perfectly… when are you starting?” She giggled, rapping the words like a marathon.

“Just look how much change you have attained positively Anna, this is the vengeance heels I’m talking about, we are going to blind our enemies, putting hot chilly pepper sauce into their eyes, I mean the all-holy Anna is seeing a man too, this yea is a hot girl”, she giggled as she teased.

“Shetdifuckup”, I yelled sarcastically, slightly laughing.

“Ahhh… it’s me, your Angel”, Sarah pouted with a puppy face.

“And may your wings fall off, you wolf in sheep clothing sucking my blood like a mosquito”, I teased again, flipping my hair dramatically.

“Damn… is that a hickey?”, Sarah screamed like she had seen a ghost, my spirit left my body for some seconds as I froze, slowly returning to my body, my temperature focused on my cheek.

“Damn… Wesley has put me in trouble”, I muttered in embarrassment.

“You see, sexy bitch is having fun, argh… get my resignation letter already if this is how Self-employed people glow”, Sarah added.

“I’m proud of how much you have grown and how far you are aiming, I’m glad to call you my friend as you have so much ambition and focus, you have a bright future, my dear, I strongly believe, I can feel it from my intestines”, Sarah cheered, joking slightly.

She’d always joke even if I was on my deathbed, she knew how to make me smile no matter the circumstances.

“Thank you dear”, I am delighted to have someone like this, Sarah is my only friend… at least before Wesley, but she’s worth more than ninety-nine others.

“Come here”, she pulled me in for a warm hug with keenness.

“Alright then, we should go celebrate”, she yelled, “I mean even here is enough get a wine or something…” she murmured.

The blank expression on my face as I smiled timidly was enough to pass the message.

“Now I see why Ethan kicked you out”, she joked.

“Ewww, that’s expensive”, I answered with a crying face.

“Far expensive than your imaginary wine since you have none”, she teased further and we cracked laughing.

Eww, Sarah had this weird laugh already, mine wasn’t any better but… “WHY DO YOU KEEP TOUCHING ME WHILE LAUGHING?” I questioned.

“I’m sorry my love, it’s part of our laugh code”, she cracked up laughing again.

I guess that’s another parablish LAUGHCODE that I’m missing again.

“Alright then let’s go out to party”, I gave a mischievous grin.

“You’ll have to invite Wesley over, I want to meet him already”. Sarah asked.

“My heart tells me you guys have fucked already, am I right?” Sarah asked with a smirk.

“Oh little bitch, you are evil”, I muttered, my cheeks betraying me and flushing red.

“That’s a yes… yooohz Anna got laid”, she teased giggling.

“Ewww… leave me alone”, I blushed even harder in embarrassment.

“But…” I sighed, “I don’t think that’s a good idea, for now, please, I’m sorry, I have overstressed for a while, I think he’ll be tired by the time he’s back and all. There’s still a lot of time you’ll see him soon girl, for now, let me look for a suitable dress, all my clothes are either work standard or too revealing.
I don’t know how I managed to be in this shoes”, I cried.

“Then maybe we should go shopping too, get a dress or something”, Sarah advised.

Immediately the word SHOPPING hit my ear, and the card Wesley gave me started tormenting me, how about I get just two dresses for tonight, Sarah didn’t come with a dress so let me say… roughly three dresses and two shoes…

After a pause I rebuked myself closing my eyes, “get thee behind me every form of bad luck that wants me to send away my destiny helper” I whispered.

“Yeah yeah yeah… ok”, Sarah chuckled.

“Indeed the devil loved this girl because see how much I’m pressuring the all-jobless Anna to get dresses, nah… I’m guilty, I’m a bad friend”, she faked a don, rubbing her clenched fist over her eyes.

“Idiot”, I cursed and we laughed it off.

“I’m not jobless, you are I’m a self-employed boss now, don’t worry, I’ll reserve a drawer for you, I’ll start from my room and then expand, trust me in this, maybe you’ll work for me too”, I said with pride, it’s my turn to mock Sarah.

We chatted, teased, and joked through the evening, our conversations leading to another, a weight was lifted from my shoulder, as I shredded my pain, and joy and opened my heart to Sarah, I was as light as a feather.
Of course, except on a huge load— this flash drive.

Maybe this was just what I needed—a fresh start and a new challenge, a new life… new beginning, new steps.
