CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

“Sit, I’ll go and check it out” Wesley ordered pointing to the chair by the corner and swiftly walking over to his mirror, admiring his reflection.
“It’s my room as you can see” he added, his fingers combing through a neatly trimmed beard,

“Eww, no!, it looks as if a snake might jump out of that corner any minute, I can’t possibly sit there, how do you even manage to live in this kind of place, I thought it was some sort of lab, strange man” I scoffed crossing my arms against my chest.

“Ok fine just sit on the bed” Wesley dismissed.

Is he crazy? “I’ll be waiting for you, IN MY ROOM” is spilled out the words and darted out of his room.

I could hear his laugh slightly, “pervert”, I mumbled.

I stormed back to my room, the door slamming shut behind me, I wasn’t going to take chances like the first time and leave my door ajar, I opened it again and shut it tightly, just to be sure, and even went further to lock it.

Just as I was about to collapse in bed, Wesley called me, “Anna, I’m here” his deep dominating voice resounding in the space before me.

I thought this was going to normal night, “great, just great, would I call tonight long or short?” I asked sarcastically, I hesitated for a while before opening the door, his chest still bare and pale, like a young black man from the ice age who just broke free from an iceberg.

Once again I’m met with his normally cold demeanor, he swiftly walked past me as if I was invisible, his eyes scrutinizing the space before he headed for the heater’s control.

I was still there, the same spot, mouth wide apart in shock, still marveling by the way his gaze swept past me, My fury would soon get out of hand Wesley, I stared at him in rage as he worked on what I couldn’t see by the corner.

“Uhmnn, Anna, it seems like there’s a little issue with this, I’ll call a technician to work on it when the day is bright, Uhmn… tag along, the other rooms are not in a favorable condition, we’ll have to manage”, his voice deep like the ocean and sweet like honey dripping from a comb, he rubbed his neck as he spoke, his eyes holding sympathy.

This only meant one thing, I couldn’t sleep here, I’ll have to sleep in the same room with Wesley tonight, my heart sank as realization hit me.
“It’s been a long night already, I just want to sleep, please” I yelled and stormed out of the room.

And there I lay, like an earthworm curled up on the giant mattress.
My anger melted away as the soothing warmth enveloped me, it wasn’t so bad afterward and the vines weren’t deadly too.
I laughed at my timidity softly only to be interrupted by Wesley’s entrance again.

“Shush!” I whispered like a mother silencing the room for her baby to sleep, I am the baby.

Wesley retreated, to the couch he lay on, forcing his huge masculine frame to fit on the princess-size couch.

“Oh Anna, where’s your conscience” I mumbled.

“It’s your house, your room, your rules, don’t make me look like a bully here” I laughed softly, this time Wesley responded with a smile, his face lighting up with delight and charm.

I hurried up to his side where he lay on the couch, stretching my both hands, I’m not evil you know”, I giggled as his cold pallid skin touched me, smooth like silk, I grabbed him by the arm, leading him to the bed and he followed like a blind man accepting help to cross the road.

“What have I done to you Anna, just like you said, it’s my house, but I can’t even have peace, I can’t sleep” Wesley muttered as he covered himself under the duvet.

In a few minutes, I drifted into sleep, unconsciously hugging him just as I would hug my teddy back in my apartment.
My small little space, for a known reason I felt protected here, it was safer.

The sound of Wesley’s phone ringing woke me up, my whole body was tired and my eyes were still heavy, the morning sunlight peeking through the curtains directly on my face, I stretched to reawaken my soul as my body was as stiff as a corpse, but I wasn’t cold-and the weight on me, I rubbed my eyes with both hands to clear my blurry vision, a fugue was beside me.

My eyes widened in shock as my sight finally cleared, It was Wesley, my head on his arm, the other hand around my waist pulling me close that our bodies touched and his face only a few inches away from my face, I froze, I could feel his hot breath on my lips.

“What have you gotten yourself into Anna?”, I questioned myself.

I was determined to break free from his tight grip around me without waking him up, but as fate would have it, my plans must be ruined, the phone started ringing again, and my heart pounded with each beat.

“Oh no!, he should see me like this”, I whispered, Closing my eyes as I tried once more to remove his hand from my waist, but then he raised his head, his face grazing my cheek and his eyes flashed open, twinkling in the dim morning light.

My cheeks flushed red with embarrassment, It was too late, he was awake.

His face brightened with a smile, “Oh!, good morning Anna” he greeted delightfully.
Seemed like he woke on the good side of the bed today because how?…
Did he usually wake with smiles on other days or did he move around with his cold grumpy face?

“I hope you slept well”, he added, drawing me closer.

My eyes widened and my mouth opened to speak, but I was too nervous, the words choked in my throat, is he crazy? Or is he sleep-talking?

“Uhmn… Good morning… I uhmn… I need water, I’m thirsty”, I fidgeted, excusing myself and fleeing from his embrace.

I could hear his wicked grin behind me, “I’m off work today again” he added.

“You must be joking” I answered, rolling my eyes.

Once again he was only taunting me.
