CHAPTER EIGHTEEN: I miss her Presence
CHAPTER EIGHTEEN: I miss her Presence.
DAMIEN'S POV
I knew that sending her out of the house wasn't the best option but I was too frustrated to think. Why was she always so forward and impatient? It made me mad to know that she couldn't consult me before taking such a huge step.
We were supposed to exact our revenge on Adrian and Charlotte together so that we could relish the feeling of beating them down together. If she had come to me for help, they wouldn't have been able to fight back. I would have crushed them to pieces.
I glanced at the treasure ring on the table and I realized that I missed her presence. It was quiet without her trying to go against my orders. Everything in me missed our pointless banters but I had already made my decision.
I knew I would never be able to throw her into prison though… that was only a threat to fuel her ambition to get the truth behind Lucas' death. I trusted her; I knew she could do it, and I would wait for her until she did.
My phone rang loudly with a call from Gabriel and I immediately swiped right with my left hand as I picked the call.
“Gabriel, how's my wife? You're protecting her like I asked you to?” I asked as I tried to stabilize my right hand on the cast so that it wouldn't hurt too much.
“Yes, boss. She's fine. I followed her all the way to the hotel where Lucas died this morning. She probably went there to gather evidence.” He explained and I smiled to myself with how smart she was because I had never thought of visiting there on my own.
“Do you think she found anything?”
“I doubt it, boss. She came out with a sulky expression so I doubt she got anything. The killer wouldn't be so dumb to leave traces of their crime behind.” He said and I let out a sigh of frustration because I knew he was right.
“Always keep an eye on her and don't let her get into trouble. If anyone tries to hurt her, don't hesitate to end them. Did I make myself clear?” I ordered and I knew he'd be saluting if he was in front of me.
“Yes, boss. Her safety is my priority. I'll hang up now- hold on, she's leaving the hotel again. She seems to be very persistent in trying to find the evidence.” He said and a smirk formed on my face as I picked up the glass of whiskey on my table.
“That's why she's my wife. Follow her and don't let her out of your sight.” I said curtly and he answered with a sharp “Yes!” before I hung up.
She was very persistent indeed.
Being strict with her would only make her want to find out the truth quickly, and that was exactly what I wanted. I gulped down the contents of the glass before placing it on the table and turning my attention to the laptop screen.
I had to find a way to get back her company from Adrian and Charlotte. It seemed like it meant a lot to her and whatever my wife wants… well, she gets it.
I knew that they were already weak since they had spent all they had to buy back their shares. All I just had to do was strike at their weak point, and they'd crumble like dust to the ground. Maybe I could use that as a way to apologize for being so harsh towards her.
Using Elena's former method wouldn't work anymore so this time, I needed someone who would be my representative. Someone who would pose as a businessman whose business was on the brink of bankruptcy and that way, we'll be able to infiltrate through their walls.
Suddenly, my phone rang again, and I nearly groaned in frustration. I hated being interrupted when I was in the middle of working; however, when I saw it was Gabriel, I immediately took the call.
“What is wrong, Gabriel, is Elena alright?” I asked, and he hesitated for a while before he spoke, and my heart rate spiked in worry.
“Boss, she's alright but… she's headed inside Lucas' house. Should I let her go or…” His voice trailed off and my eyes widened at the realization of what she was doing.
How come I never thought of all these?
“Watch her from afar, I'll be there as fast as possible,” I said as I got out of the chair and headed straight for my car. Driving was nearly impossible but I would have to manage with my left hand.
I drove the car out of the house and got on the road immediately. My driving was slower than usual because I was trying to keep it steady with just my left hand. I suddenly slammed on the brakes when I saw the traffic in front of me.
I would arrive at Luca's house in five minutes if I could get out of this traffic, but it didn't look like it was dispersing anytime soon. I glanced out the window and my heart sank when it started to rain.
“Dang it, did she take an umbrella?” I asked myself in worry and after thinking for a while, I pushed the car door open as I stepped into the rain. No cars were moving at all and the only option was to walk my way over to the house in the rain.
I started to run down the road and after making multiple turns, I was finally in front of Lucas' house. A house that I never visited ever since he died. I just couldn't bring myself to step in here because I couldn't protect him.
“Boss.” I heard Gabriel say from behind me as he held an umbrella over my head and I nodded to him in response. “She's inside.” He said and I took the umbrella before running inside the house.
The moment I stepped into the sitting room, I could hear echoed cries coming from Lucas' room, and my heart dropped in fear and agony as I ran upstairs and into the room.
There she was, sitting on the floor with papers all over the ground as she sobbed hard and my heart broke for her.
“Elena?” I called up and her head shot up in shock as she looked at me with tears staining her pretty face. Suddenly, she was off the floor and in my arms as she hugged me tightly while she cried.
