Chapter 42 TRAINING
Lilian POV
Seraphine stood up with her arms crossed and said, “Tell that to the silver bullet when it pierces through your skin.”
I scoffed and just sat there like I didn’t hear what she was saying. She stood up and walked to the door, then saw that I wasn’t with her.
She turned and sighed in annoyance. “Can’t you just listen for once?”
I shrugged and said, “The last time I listened to something was the double footsteps I heard before the shit was bitten out of me.” Then I turned to face her. “You know it’s not my fault I’m like this. If that demon didn’t bite me, I could have had a normal life and probably wouldn’t have met you.”
She looked sad but covered it up. “No shit you talk of can get to me right now. Are you coming, or do I need to drag you first?”
“Ugh… I just don’t know why you saved me that night.”
She didn’t say anything, just let me act stupid.
I groaned and put on some footwear, then she motioned for me to leave first. When we got outside and the door was shut, she didn’t say anything until we walked further down the road, where my house was no longer in view.
Then I saw her smirk… this is not good, man.
She wiggled her feet, and I already knew what I was about to hear. She smiled brightly at me and said, “Lilian, I give you the honor of trying to keep up with my scent.”
With that, she zoomed off. She went so fast that I didn’t even see the direction she ran to. I’m so done for, man.
I smelled the air, caught her scent, and followed it at full speed.
I kept running with everything in me. I ran for a while before I wasn’t perceiving it anymore. I turned and took off again, back the way I came from.
To my surprise, the scent came back… this is insane.
I followed it again, but before I could reach the extreme end, it faded, and I felt the urge to pull my hair out.
I groaned in frustration and ran back, but this time I was breathing like I’d been hit by a plank or something because I really ran a large distance this time—seriously.
I was still breathing hard when I caught the scent again. I didn’t give myself a break; I followed it with all the vampire speed I could muster and ran straight into a leopard instead of Seraphine.
When I saw the animal, I gasped in fear and tried to back away slowly, but it was fast and immediately turned and saw me.
I think I kind of stopped breathing, and I was already exhausted, to be real.
I slowly dropped to all fours and began to crawl backward, but the damn animal growled low at me, teeth bared and claws already out. I scoffed at it. Show-off.
It came toward me slowly while I moved backward on all fours, then it leaped into the air, and I did what I knew best—I ran.
I couldn’t believe how fast I was. I was breathing like a cheat, and it felt like my legs were floating.
I ran to a dead end and tried to jump over the obstacles but fell flat on my ass. I can’t actually jump that high—I’m not even in the P.E. club at school.
I breathed out and looked around. There was nothing I could use or climb over. My only option was to run back in the direction the wild animal chased me from.
My knees gave out, and I fell to the floor with a weak thud.
I just hoped Seraphine was having enough fun because this shit wasn’t funny. Training my foot.
I stood up and ran back in the direction where the leopard was.
I saw it from afar, but being a sharp animal, it saw me too. It growled loudly before charging at me and scratching me.
Ouch.
I fell to the floor and scrambled backward in fear. The leopard seemed to sense it and leaped again, scratching me deeper, almost peeling my skin. Something awakened in me, and I surprised myself by growling back.
My fangs were already out. I grabbed the animal by the neck and threw it backward, still surprising myself.
The animal fell with a thud. I kind of pitied it, but it came looking for trouble, so I wasn’t showing mercy.
I lunged at it and heard it growl, trying to break free, but I held onto its neck. The next thing I did shocked me—I snapped its head off its neck with one hard twist.
I breathed out when I saw it was completely still and lifeless. I slumped onto the floor and sighed in relief.
That was when I heard clapping, and my heart nearly jumped out of my chest.
I turned and saw Seraphine standing there with a proud look, clapping.
I wanted to shout at her, but I had no energy. So I said lowly, “You purposely set me up, you demon.”
She smirked like she’d won the lottery. “Yep,” popping the last p.
I glared at her hard. “Jesus, Seraphine, if you wanted to kill me, you wouldn’t have harmed anything by telling me—but a leopard? Seriously?”
She shrugged. “I mean, you survived. I was going to save you if you didn’t, but it looks like you handled it well.”
I rubbed my forehead and asked, “So are we done yet? I’m exhausted.”
She laughed. “We’re just getting started. The main training starts tomorrow, though—but I’ll let you rest for today.”
“So chasing a leopard is just getting started? Seraphine, I’m starting to think this isn’t training anymore. Are you trying to murder me?”
