Resuming work
I'm yet to know why he is in my school and to worsen it, in my class. Will I have to deal with him everyday now?
"Is he going to haunt us now?" Nina asked for the nth time and I groaned frustratingly. This girl is going to end my life soon with her frustration, no doubt.
"I'm trying to read here, can you leave me the hell alone, please? I huffed angrily while glaring at her. I know it's weekend today but I need to read for my test against Monday. Even if she doesn't want to study, that doesn't mean she should bother me, right? I know she's just worried about our encounter with him some weeks ago, but that doesn't mean she should take that as an avenue to frustrate me, right?
"Alright," She drawl and I sighed briefly.
Do you want to know how I have been coping with Raymond? Well, he seems to be the opposite of the jerk I had mistaken him for. We've hung out a couple of times over the weeks, and I must confess that he is really fun to be with. I have been having some weird feelings about him lately, but I do not want to give it too much attention. If I must be honest, then I will say that I do like him though I'm convincing myself not to believe that.
"So, how are you getting prepared for your new job? You are resuming tomorrow, remember? She asked again and I sighed briefly. Now that I think of it, I think I'm nervous about this job. I want to be employed there permanently if I'm given the chance, and I'm going to be facing many challenges trying to do that.
"I must confess Nina, I'm really nervous. What if I don't do well there? What if they don't like me? or what if...
"Don't be like that, Lily. They will like you. Look at me, I can bet that you have the charm to capture people's heart at first sight, so that shouldn't be a worry to you. I understand that it's normal to be worried on your first day at work, but letting your nervousness get the best of you and getting you distracted is the last thing you would not want to happen, right?" She spoke softly and I nodded in agreement to what she said.
"Good. Now, what I want you to do for me, is to stay focused and tell yourself that you can do it. Don't let your fear take over you, not in this situation, ok?" She said and I nodded again. Now she is sounding like the responsible girl she's not.
"Thanks for always being here when I need you the most. What would I have done without you," I smiled and she blushed.
"Don't mention. Just treat me to dinner when you get your first pay. That way, you will make it up to me for all I've done for you," She smiled and I shook my head unbelievably. We talked about random things for the rest of the night until we both slept off.
The sound of my blaring alarm pulled me back from dreamland and even if I had not open my eyes, I knew that it was dawn and the time for me to wake up and get ready for my new work. I wish I can get a little more sleep, but that will be in my wildest dream.
"It seems like you are awake, I was going to wake you up," That seems to be my friends faint voice. Don't tell me she's awake already. Did I sleep so much? The last time I checked, I'm always the first to wake up.
"Come on, wake up. You are going to be late for work. I've prepared your bath water and your clothes are ready too," I heard her voice amid my sleep, and I was forced to open my eyes. Nina is so sweet and considerate. I can't believe that she went through all the stress, just so I can get to the company early enough.
"I'm ready to go," I said when I was finally dressed for work. It was still early in the morning, so I have to be there if possible before everyone else. I need to show them how dedicated and determined I am to work with them.
"Don't you think that is too early for that? You still have a few minutes left, you could rest. Besides, you just had breakfast and you should wait a little more time if you don't want to have indigestion later," She suggested and I shook my head.
"You were the one talking about first impression, and going to work late especially on my first day will disqualify me and may push them to sack me even before I start," I said and she nodded in agreement
"Don't forget to smile at your colleagues..."
"Make a good relationship with my boss, and also everyone else and be obedient," I helped her finish up her statements.
"That's great. Go, girl! I'm rooting for you," She patted my shoulder and I left for work afterward.
The drive to the office didn't take much time because it's somehow close. It's just 20 minutes drive.
"Thank you," I paid the cabby as soon as I stepped out of the car, once we got to the front of the company. I amble to inside afterwards.
"Good morning," I exchanged greetings with the few workers I bumped into on the way, and they all gave me weird looks which I do not understand what it means. I went to Miguel office and he led me to my supposed Office, which is just outside the door of my supposed boss office.
"This is your office. I already prepared some files for you to work on while waiting for your boss. The files over there are the sales of last month and this month all piled up together. Separate them and deliver the ones of this month to your boss desk, and the ones of the previous month to my desk. Make sure you are careful when doing them. We need to avoid mixing up things," he explained and I nodded my head.
"Alright, I will leave you to take care of it now," he said, and with that he left me to handle the files. Just the sight of the files makes me cringe. They are so much, but I signed up for this job, and I should be ready to take whatever I'm offered here.
Engrossed in the files and trying to sort it out, the door suddenly opened and raising my gaze to check who just walked in, my eyes slowly widened at the site I beheld. What's he doing here?
