The mysterious man
It's midnight and I'm still yet to fall asleep. A lot of things have been running through my mind and all effort to get some sleep have proven abortive. Even if I wanted to shut my mind out of all distractions and get some sleep, I couldn't do it as I always found my mind drifting off. For hours, I've been having the delusion that someone is watching me, I feel like I'm being watched by an unknown creature and I must confess that it's really driving me to the edge of craziness. Why would anyone watch me? It's late in the night and everyone should be asleep, right?
Letting out a sigh for the umpteenth time, I sat up on the bed and glanced at Nina who was fast asleep on her bed, she slept so peacefully and I wished I could get a peaceful sleep like her too. The sudden violent wind from outside motioned the curtains violently and penetrating the room and I realized that the windows were left opened. Nina was the last person to sleep yesterday, she must have forgot to close the window. Who knows, maybe that was why I have been finding it difficult to sleep.
Dragging my feet to the window side, I raised the curtains intending to close the window afterward, but the sight I beheld, made me freeze on the spot. It was the same figure I saw a couple of times ago, the mysterious figure that was dressed in a black cloak. I've been thinking that it was just my hallucinations, but now I believe that this whole thing is real. Now I can get the pieces together, he must've been the one I feel was watching me secretly.
Gulping down the lump in my throat, I watched the figure for a while, desperate to know who he is and why he has been showing up here. Seconds slowly ticked into minutes and the figure remained rooted to the spot, he didn't look like he was going to move from the spot anytime soon, and it was already scaring me. I thought of waking Nina up, but what if he suddenly disappears? What if she thinks that I'm being weird?
Suddenly, he snapped his head to look at me and I freeze on the spot at the sight I beheld, he was faceless, even if the hoodie cap was covering his face, a part of his face should've at least showed, right? My hands slowly flew over to my mouth to prevent me from screaming, he saw me!
Turning around slowly, I walked back to my bed and crashed on it, my body trembling in fear. What did I just see?
The rest of the night was full of scary imagination and after what seemed like never, the day finally break. After the house chores and breakfast, I and Nina left for class. I'm going to be resuming work next week, so I'll use this week to attend class and give it all the concentration I can.
"Are you sure you're OK? You've been acting dull," Nina asked me as we took the finally hallway that lead to our class. She had been questioning me since we left the dorm and what do you expect? I told her that I'm fine and that nothing is wrong with me. You aren't expecting to tell her of what I saw, right? What if she think that I'm weird? What if she doesn't believe me and think that something is wrong with my mental health? That'll be the worst experience for me.
"I told you I'm fine," I said frustratingly, wishing for her to just leave me to think about the weird creature I had seen.
We both got inside the class and as expected, lecture was yet to commence. I think I'll just do revision on the previous lessons while waiting for the lecturer. I picked my book from my bag once I got to my seat, and left the class afterward. I just want to be in a silent place where nobody will disturb me with noise.
"Where are you heading to?" Nina asked me, but ignored her and left the class. If only she knows what's wrong with me, I'm sure she won't think of talking to me.
Leaving the class, I headed straight to the rooftop and sat on one of the loungers there. I tried to read my book as I had planned, but I kept getting distracted. The thought of the man filled my mind and all effort to get rid of it, wasn't successful. Something tells me that he's not just showing up coincidentally, I feel like he's there because of me if not, why am I the only one that's always seeing him? Why does he always show up only when Nina is either asleep or not around?
The thought of dad's death flashed through my mind and I released a sigh. As much as I don't want to think about this, I'm forced to think about it, what if he has something to do with the death of my dad? What if he's there because he know that I have known the secret behind my dad's mysterious death? I mean, I'm just trying to get the whole pieces together. The first time I learned the secret, he showed up, and he had been showing up since then.
"Shit!" I cursed under my breath, ruffling my hair. This thing is just messing with my brain and it's driving me crazy. Just what the heck is happening?
"Wow, we meet again," I heard a masculine voice behind me and I rolled my eyes at whoever it was.
"As you can see, I'm not in a good mood so just leave already," I replied to whoever it was, not bothering to spare him a glance. The voice was somewhat familiar, but who said that I'm going to think of who the voice belongs to?
"You sure you don't want to have a look?" I felt the sarcasm in his voice and this time around, I didn't fail to recognize who it might be. Snapping my head in the direction of the voice, anger surged in me at the most despicable sight I beheld, it was that bastard. What's his name? I don't know and I do not want to know.
"Surprise?" His smirked, crossing his arms on his chest while I glared at him in pure disgust, standing up to my feet.
"Why are you here?" I asked in pure rage and he scoffed.
"And who says that I can't be here?" He shrugged while I scoffed unbelievably.
"Anyway, it's nice to meet you again, I'm most happy," He said.
"Get ready to pull some stunt with me, I'll be happy to work with you in the future," He smirked and with that, he turned around and walked away, leaving me stunned and wondering what he meant by 'working with you in the future'...
