Chapter Sixty-six
Chapter Sixty-six
When I opened my eyes, I saw someone staring at us from the window. He's wearing a black hoodie and a white smiley mask, something you'd usually see in psychological thriller movies. It freaked me out when he started punching the glass window, causing it to crack.
"No!" I screamed, but he continued punching it until it broke.
The masked man stepped in through the hole, held out a knife, and approached us. I tried to wake Harry up, but he's not opening his eyes. When I looked back, the masked man jabbed me in the chest.
"No!" I screamed from the top of my lungs.
I sat up and opened my eyes, realizing that it was all a dream, a really bad dream, and relief washed all over me. I looked beside me and saw that Harry's not there anymore. I wiped the hair out of my face. I should stop thinking too much about that man or watching too many horror movies.
I left the bed and continued to the kitchen. The smell of freshly brewed coffee and newly baked pancakes drifted to my nostrils. I saw Harry making coffee in front of the machine. I walked towards him and gave him a hug. He suddenly jolted and looked back. He raised his hand, as if about to hit me, but stopped himself.
"Georgia, I—I'm sorry. You freak me out," he said.
I distanced myself from him. "What were you thinking, Harry? Who else did you expect to be here?"
"Look, I'm really sorry," he apologized sincerely, putting the mug of coffee on the table. He walked toward the oven and took out the pancakes. "I've been having these nightmares about that mysterious man we've seen standing at the hotel's corridor. I dunno. Maybe I'm just getting paranoid."
"So I am," I said, sitting on the chair beside the table. "In fact, I just woke up dreaming about it."
"It must be because of what happened last night. I'm sorry; I shouldn't have frightened you." He put a plate of pancakes on the table, removed his apron, put it on the back of the chair, and sat down.
"Don't be sorry. You didn't do anything wrong." I reached for my coffee. "Let's just forget about it."
"Yeah. Let's forget about it."
After having breakfast and coffee, Harry and I swam at the pool. "We should hire a maid, Georgia," he said. "I won't always be with you, and it won't be easy for you once the baby gets bigger."
Harry's right. He won't always be with me to attend to my needs, for he's getting busier with work. It'll be difficult for me to move once my stomach gets bigger, so I think it's good to hire a maid, someone who can take care of the household chores and do some cleaning around, especially since this house is big, and we can't always stay here.
"I think that's a good idea," I said, sitting on the concrete beside him with our feet dipped in the water.
"Don't worry, I'll look for a maid online," he said. "As for now, let's prepare to go to the studio."
Right. I almost forgot. We are going to Matt and Ryan's studio today. I held Harry's hands, and he helped me stand up. We entered the mansion together, continued to our room, and changed. Finally, we got into Harry's car and headed to the studio.
Harry carefully parked his car in front of the house. Then we stepped out. The door was closed, so I knocked on it several times, but nobody answered.
"Seems like they aren't here," I said. "What should we do now?"
"Alas! We should have called them first before going here, and we forgot that they aren't here on Sunday," Harry replied.
"I'm sorry. I don't have their numbers either."
"No choice. Let's just go back next time."
We were about to get into the car when we saw Matt and Ryan approaching, together with another tall, long-haired man and a blonde-haired woman in her thirties. They were all wearing jeans, except for Matt who was wearing white pants.
"Georgia?" Matt asked. "It's been a while since we've seen the two of you. What's up? Are you here to practice?"
"Nope. We're here for something else," I replied.
"I see... Why not get inside first? We've just come from our live performance. By the way, this is Melina, my wife, and this is Carter, our drummer," Matt introduced us to each other.
"Nice to meet you." We shook hands, while Ryan had already opened the door and gone inside.
"Come in. It's cold out here," Matt said. "Please take a seat."
We followed them inside the studio. "I'm sorry for coming here on Sunday. We forgot we're not supposed to come today," I said, sitting down on the floor.
"It's okay. We're not actually busy. So, what is it that you came here for? Serious business?" Matt asked. "By the way, we were at the bar last week, but you weren't there anymore. Did something happen?"
"Actually, a lot of things happened," I said and looked at Harry.
"We are getting married, and we need a song to play as she walks down the aisle," Harry said.
"Oh!" Matt clapped his hands. "Congratulations! We didn't know you were getting married."
"So, you're here for that?" Ryan interrupted.
"Yeah. We need a song, and you're the ones who came to our mind," Harry said.
"Actually, we just made a new song, right, Ryan?" Matt asked, and Ryan nodded. "It has a slower tempo. It'll be perfect for a wedding. When is your wedding, by the way?"
"On January 11," Harry said.
"I see, so we got at least three weeks to prepare," Matt said. "Can we do it before the wedding, Ryan?"
"Yeah, sure. We can do it."
"Thank you," I said.
"We'll pay you fairly," Harry added.
"I don't think that's necessary. It's your wedding, and being able to play on that special day is already farther than we can imagine," Matt said. "We offer free performance during special occasions."
"Really?" I asked in a joyful tone.
"Yeah, but if you insist, then we'll accept any amount," Matt replied.
"Oh, thank you. I bet it's very costly to hire other musicians to play for our wedding," I said.
"Weddings aren't supposed to be a rip-off," Ryan added.
I didn't expect that these two guys would be generous. No wonder why they look so happy and young with what they are doing. They are never after money, but for the happiness of the people around them.
We thanked them again. Harry had exchanged numbers with them so that we can contact each other. We apologized for the inconvenience we have caused. Matt told us not to worry about it and congratulated us again.
