Chapter 107 - Unreject Me

Theo’s pov

During my visit, Kaizen and Nikita went with me to the hospital. Although I genuinely did not want to see her, I desired to see the infant. Although the chances of Lykus knowing the pup as our blood relative were low, I still wanted to test if he could feel a connection to him. I hoped to spot something familiar. Maybe the pup would have a unique characteristic of the family. I had to see for myself, even if the baby did not resemble any of us.

“It is a boy,” Kaizen told me as we approached the room.

Pursing my lips, I nodded. A boy. If he truly was Asher’s pup, his wolf would be an Alpha. But by the time we found out if he was an Alpha or not, he would have reached adolescence, and it would probably be too late by then to teach him the truth. Natasha would have poisoned his mind with her version of the truth, and I didn’t want that to happen.

“Ready?” Kaizen asked me.

“Yeah, as ready as I could be,” I said, heaving a deep breath.

Kaizen nodded at the healer who accompanied us to the room. She opened the door and informed Natasha about having visitors. I entered after Nikita and Kaizen. I could tell that she was shocked beyond what words could express when she saw us. Her jaw dropped as she stared at us with widened eyes. Perhaps it was the air becoming heavy with the presence of three alphas in one room, or she was just stunned to see us. Her eyes moved from me, Kaizen, and Natasha. I didn’t bother to greet her, and apparently, neither Nikita nor Kaizen were thrilled to see her. Nonetheless, they remained in the room with me, and I was glad that I didn’t have to do it alone. I walked towards the crib, sniffing the air. Besides Natasha’s annoying scent, the pup's soft and fresh scent lingered in the air. Since he wasn’t my pup, my wolf remained silent. Being an uncle wasn’t the same as becoming a father. When we walked towards the crib, she shook her head and heaved a breath.

“What are you doing?” she asked. “That’s my baby!”

“Stay where you are! We aren’t here to harm the pup,” Natasha commanded her.

I ignored them and took my time to study the baby’s face. He looked so peaceful as he slept in the crib. My lips twisted. I felt sorry for him. His mother was an ungrateful she-wolf who didn’t care about a respectful life. The pup deserved better. I tilted my head carefully, studying his features. He was too little to say if he looked like Asher or not. Both Asher and Natasha had dark brown hair, just like the baby. It was hard to tell if he inherited that from her or him. As the pup grew, I knew that special features would become more central, but that would take time.

“What do you think, Lykus?” I asked my wolf.

“I am not sure. Maybe we should go for a DNA test,” he said.

An awkward silence followed until Natasha broke it.

“Why are you here? I didn’t do anything wrong. I stayed away from you. I didn’t cause trouble. Are you still trying to take my pup away from me? You can’t do that! You can’t!”

I glanced at her. Well, at least she cared about the kid.

“We aren’t going to take him away,” I said, my tone rather solemn. Yet. I barely held myself back from saying that. “Who is his father?”

She looked troubled. Her eyes wandered between her pup and me, clearly concerned about what I was about to do.

“Wha… why do you care? He is definitely not yours,” she snapped at me as her eyes travelled towards Kaizen. “Or yours either, but your wolves must have already confirmed that he isn’t your blood.”

I scoffed. “Of course, this pup isn’t mine or Kaizen’s. That is not why we are here. Just answer the question. Whose pup is this?”

Her brows furrowed. “He is mine. He is my pup. His father isn’t with us. So he is mine alone.”

Kaizen raised a brow. “Okay. So the pup is yours, but this pregnancy couldn't be a miracle. It takes two to tango, Natasha.”

“It is none of your freaking business! Leave me alone!”

Natasha crossed her arms. “He is still your Alpha. I think we have been too lenient with you since you feel you could use that tone with him. Perhaps we should exile you since you don’t respect him as your leader.”

Her face fell. “N…no… I am sorry. Al… Alpha. I won’t survive with a little pup in the wild.”

I felt uncomfortable. That was exactly how Asher’s story began, and I couldn’t let that happen again. I was about to speak up when Natasha responded to her.

“Who said you were leaving with the pup?” Natasha said, looking straight at her.

The colour on her face drained. She sat up and started to beg. “Please, Luna. Have mercy on me. Don’t separate a mother from her pup.”

“Okay, now tell us the truth. Who is this pup’s father?”

Natasha gulped. She was visibly anxious.

“Do you know who the father is?” I asked, scoffing. I doubted that she changed her habit of sleeping around with numerous men. To my surprise, she nodded her head.

I raised a brow. Oh, she knew the father. That was unexpected.

"So, who is it?”

She hesitated. To me, all those signs were suspicious. If the father was someone who didn’t concern us, there was no reason to be reluctant. Finally, Kaizen sighed.

“I really didn’t want to use the Alpha command on you since you gave birth just a few hours ago, Natasha. Despite all the things you did to us, I, as your Alpha, don’t want to put you through that stress at this moment. But if I have to, I can use my Alpha command and force a confession out of you.”

She looked at us. “I will tell you. He is a rogue I met in the woods. When you sentenced me that night, I was so upset that I ran out of the pack and cried my eyes out beside a tree. I didn’t expect a wolf to approach me. He scared me at first, but he was rather gentle with me.” She sighed. “You can’t blame me for caving into his gentle touch. He was the first man to give me any love or attention in a long time. His kind words healed my aching heart, and for a moment, I was happy.”

We exchanged glances. Asher could be that rogue.

“So this rogue... What is his name?” Kaizen asked.

She kept her gaze lowered as she fiddled with the sheets. “I don’t know.”

I narrowed my eyes at her. That had to be a lie.

“You don’t know his name, and you slept with him?” Nikita asked, staring at her with a judgemental glare.

Natasha looked at her briefly and went back to staring at her hands. “I didn’t ask his name. I just wanted to be loved, even for a little while. I wasn’t looking for a relationship.”

I looked at Kaizen. She sounded genuine, but I had a hard time believing her. Yes, she was someone who might sleep with anyone. I found it unbelievable that she did not know who she slept with, even though she might have gotten intimate with a rogue to pass the time.

“Did you see this rogue more than once?” Nikita asked.

Natasha, with her gaze still lowered, shook her head. “No. I met him just once.”

“Are you sure? You didn’t try to find him even after you found out you were pregnant?” Nikita asked.

“I thought of looking for him, but then why should I? He was a rogue. What good would it be for my pup to know that his father was a rogue? I don’t want him to be in my pup’s life,” she said. “I know being a single mother will be hard. I don’t even have my own family to support me, but it’s okay. I can do this.”

“Why did you keep the pregnancy, then? You are completely alone. Taking care of a little pup is hard work. You have to earn money while looking after him. How are you going to do it?”

Natasha glared at Nikita. “Why should I kill an unborn pup? He has every right to live. Besides, I know I can afford him. I will work from home. I am sure my boss wouldn’t mind as long as the work is completed on time.”

I shook my head. It was hard to tell if she was telling the truth or if she was good at lying. She had an answer for every question.

Nikita sighed. “The thing is, Natasha, we have a very concerning issue. A few months ago, he was nearly killed by a rogue attack, and we suspect foul play in that attack.”

I watched Natasha’s demeanour with great care. She gave Nikita a blank stare. “Foul play?” she asked.

“Yes. It wasn’t a random attack. It was well calculated, and the attacker seemed to know the route and his destination. He couldn’t have followed Kaizen if he didn’t know. So someone must have leaked the information, and as far as we know, you are the only one who has had a recent encounter with a rogue from this pack,” Nikita stated, looking directly at Natasha’s face. “When we do the math, you conceived your pup around the same time.”

Natasha heaved a breath. “What are you saying?”

“Did you tell this Alpha anything about Kaizen or this pack?” Nikita asked.

Natasha stared back for a while and shook her head. “I didn’t. I just told him everything that happened, had sex, and then came back. I know it was crazy to have sex with a rogue, but at least I felt better after that.” Her gaze drifted towards the crib, a little smile curling on her lips. “And now I have my little Caden. I have a reason to live now.”

“Fine. Then you wouldn’t mind us taking a look at your place? We want your phone and computer too.” Nikita said.

Natasha pursed her lips but then nodded her head. “You can check. I swear, I didn’t have any contact with him after that.”

“We will send our soldiers to your place today. I am sure you wouldn’t mind that.”

Natasha handed her phone to Nikita. “Here is my phone. You won’t find anything.”

She looked pretty confident that they wouldn’t find anything that could trap her. It made me think that perhaps she was telling the truth.

“Or maybe she got rid of all the evidence,” Lykus mumbled. “Whatever she told us doesn’t prove that Asher isn’t the father of that pup. Don’t forget what you came here for. Ask for a DNA test, and if that pup is our nephew, let’s take him to Black Woods with us.”

“We can’t take him with us yet. Once his mother is proven to be an unfit mother, we can take him. Before that, we couldn’t. But we can ask for a DNA test.”

“Then do it.”

I cleared my throat. “There is one more thing. I want to do a DNA test to see if this pup is related to me.”
