Chapter 106 - Unreject Me

Nikita’s pov

Ever since I arrived at Wood Stone and claimed my title as the pack’s Luna, I watched Natasha’s movements closely. Every day, it was the same monotonous routine she followed. She went to work, returned home, and stayed in there until it was time to go to work the following day. I had a hard time lowering my guard around her. I didn’t want to believe that she was staying silent for nothing. I even looked into her recent trip to the human world. It appeared to be a casual trip. She met a bunch of humans, whom I later found out were Asher’s business partners. I couldn’t think of how she could benefit from them. Since Asher was dead, his family could benefit from it, but why would Natasha bother?

As long as she did not endanger us, what she did was not my concern.

As the days passed by, we noticed that her belly had started protruding. It came as a shock because no male wolves from Wood Stone engaged with her during the past few months. She kept herself busy with work and didn’t even go clubbing. So who’s pup could she be pregnant with? It took a while for me to connect the dots. Could she be pregnant with Asher’s pup? Was that the reason she met with his business partners? Perhaps she was trying to make her pup his beneficiary.

I didn’t share my thoughts with anyone - not even Kaizen. I didn’t want to worry about him with her unless it was really serious; he had enough to worry about already. From a distance, I watched her stomach grow as her pregnancy progressed. Well, there was nothing wrong with that. Pregnancy and talking to people about private matters were not illegal. My concern stemmed from the question of how she became pregnant with him and if that was indeed his pup. Did that mean that she met him outside the pack’s premises? There was no way he could have slipped past the security of the pack. If so, was she the one who gave him the information about Kaizen’s departure on the day he was attacked?

My brain was muddled with concerning thoughts. It was an alarming situation, but I didn’t have any evidence. All of it was speculation, and even if I tried to question her, apparently she would deny the accusations. I had a strong feeling that she was the traitor who leaked information about her alpha’s route and time of departure. However, with no proof, there was nothing I could do about it.

The day of Kaya’s wedding got closer. Everything was going perfectly well. Natasha was the only wolf I was uncomfortable with. I couldn’t quite trust her, but she was too pregnant to do anything that could ruin Kaya’s big day. Besides, it was happening in another district, and I doubt she had any connections in Black Woods. So I relaxed a bit. However, I made sure Natasha stayed in Wood Stone throughout her pregnancy.

My sister-in-law was practically going crazy about her own wedding plans, and Kaya was already anxious about hers. That being said, I did not think it was the right moment to tell them about my assumptions. At last, though, I told my mate what went through my head. Considering that it also concerned the attack on him.

“Is there a way we can find out if that pup is Asher’s?” I asked my mate.

His brow furrowed. “Perhaps after he is born we can do a DNA test, but that can be done only with his mother’s consent. If she doesn't, we can’t, especially since there isn't’ proof against her. You may be right, but to make her give in and charge her with treachery, we need some sort of proof.”

I nodded my head. “And that’s what we don’t have.”

“We can’t even confiscate her phone based on speculation. And chances are, even if there were proof of her having a connection with him, she would have gotten rid of them already. She had had months to do that already,” he said. His reasoning was indubious. She wasn’t stupid; she was just a bit too slutty and money-crazed.

I heaved a breath. “If we could get a confession out of her...”

“Yes, but right now, we can’t do that. She is pregnant, and it could harm the foetus. I understand that Natasha cannot be trusted, but her pup growing in her womb is innocent. I refuse to do anything that would risk harming an unborn pup.”

I smiled at him. “I really admire you for that. You are a good Alpha,” I said.

He laced his fingers with mine and raised my hand to his lips.

“That’s because I have the most perfect Luna as my equal,” he said.

I chuckled. “Then you wouldn’t mind me keeping an eye on her, would you? I just can’t trust that she-wolf.”

He shrugged his shoulders. “Of course. Anything my queen feels is the best thing to do.”

The wedding day came and went. I held off on telling Kaya about my assumptions until after her honeymoon. When I finally called her to let her know about my suspicions, she was surprisingly too excited to share any exciting news with me.

“I am pregnant!” she told me joyfully.

“Wow, congratulations,” I said, a smile spreading across my face. “Does Archie know?”

“Not yet. But I am going to tell him today.”

“Aww. get a recording of his reaction. I want to see his little face when he finds out.”

She laughed. “Yeah. Let’s see what he says. Oh, I was so excited about it, I just had to tell you. Why did you call? Did you need something?”

“Actually, it has been a while since I wanted to tell you about this. But the wedding and everything else kept us super busy. Anyway, now that I feel things are under control, I want you to know this. Natasha is pregnant, and I have a feeling the pup could be Asher’s.”

Kaya was obviously not thrilled to hear the news. But she decided not to worry about it because it was just conjecture. I echoed her sentiments. Anxiety would only lead to needless stress. Although I would not be concerned about Natasha, I would closely monitor her every move—especially after giving birth to her pup.

Kaya’s pov

Natasha being pregnant with Asher’s pup wasn’t great news. I knew it was just an assumption, and I told Nikita not to worry about her; all I could think about was that pregnancy even after I ended the call. My mate hugged me from behind and kissed my cheek.

“What are you thinking about?” he asked.

“Was I that obvious?” I responded with a chuckle.

“Yeah, you have this cute wrinkle on your forehead when you are in deep thought.”

I laughed.

“So what is it?”

“Nikita called me to tell me about Natasha’s pregnancy,” I said, looking into his face.

She shrugged. “So she finally got knocked up. Why should we care?”

I sighed. “The pup could be Asher’s.”

His lips parted, and his eyes widened. “But how?”

“Nikita has her reasons, but she is also assuming. She doesn’t have proof.”

Exhaling a deep breath, he wiped his face and started to pace around the room.

“She says that if Natasha met with him, she could be the one who leaked information about Asher the day he was attacked in the woods.”

He shot a glance at me. “That’s treachery. She almost got him killed.”

I nodded my head. “Is there a way you could know if the pup is related to you?”

He pursed his lips. “A DNA test can confirm that.” He walked over to the bed and sat down, looking troubled. Several minutes passed. I walked up to him and held him. Through our bond, I could feel his unrest. If the pup was truly Asher's, that meant that he was family, and to us, family meant everything.

“Hey, it is going to be fine,” I said, hoping my words would calm his nerves.

Asher's,

He nodded his head. “Asher had to fuck with us even after he died. Why couldn’t he have knocked up someone normal? Like a regular omega or maybe just a random she-wolf. Why did it have to be Natasha?”

I laced my fingers with his and gave it a little squeeze. “We don’t know if it is true. It is just speculation,” I told him.

He wasn’t satisfied with my response. “There must be a good reason for Nikita to suspect such a thing. If that kid is my niece or nephew, I wouldn’t want her to nurture the pup. For sure, she would poison his or her mind. I don’t want that to happen to my kin, even if that pup is Asher’s.”

“But we can’t separate a pup from its mother without any reason,” I told him.

“You’re right. But if she really helped Asher in attacking Kaizen, we have every reason to rule her as an unfit mother,” he said.

As the day progressed, Theo got busy with his work, and slowly, his demeanour relaxed. Nonetheless, I knew he was still concerned about the possibility of Natasha being pregnant with his niece or nephew. To take his mind off of it, even for a while, I told him about my plan to record Archie’s reaction to learning he was becoming a big brother. Thankfully, it worked. His face lit up, and he quickly agreed to help me record it.

When Archie returned from school, I sat him down and looked into his face.

“Arch, there is something important we have to tell you,” I said.

“Okay,” he said, wiggling his little body on the sofa.

“You know that we love you a lot, right?” I said.

He nodded his head as he made eye contact with me.

“What if we tell you that you are becoming a big brother?” I carefully watched his countenance. I really hoped he would react positively, but even if he didn’t understand why another pup was coming into the family, we had enough time to make him understand.

He scrunched up his nose. “Brother?”

“Yes. A baby is going to come to live with us. You will be the big brother.”

His eyes lit up. “I am having a brother?”

“Umm,” I squinted playfully. “Maybe a brother or a sister.”

“A sister?”

“Yes, he or she will come soon.”

“Where is the baby now? I want to see,” he said.

Theo handed us the ultrasound scan we did and showed him. He appeared so adorable and confused when I showed him the picture.

“It is dark because the baby is in mommy’s tummy right now.”

He gave me a horrified glance. “In your tummy?”

I nodded.

“Mommy, why did you eat him up?”

It took a little while to explain that I didn’t eat his sibling, and that was how we get babies, but he eventually nodded his head. He gave me a hug before running off.

“Did you get it?” I asked Theo when he left.

Grinning from ear to ear, he nodded his head. “I knew he would say something funny.”

Another three months passed by before Nikita informed us about Natasha going into labour. Theo prepared to visit the pup in the hospital but didn’t ask me to join him since I was still in the early stages of my pregnancy.

“Don’t worry, mate. I am going there just to sort things out. That pup deserves a better mother. Not her.”

I smiled at her. “I am not worried, Theo. I trust you. It is her who I don’t trust.”
