Chapter 37 Yuina Nijima 2
Chapter 37 Yuina Nijima 2
"How is far an escape pod?" Walker asked.
"18 Kilometre or 11.1 miles away," Yuina said calmly.
"what! That's too far!"
"it will be fine, honey." Yuina said. "just follow me."
They ran down the corridor, following the path marked by the glowing white lights. Walker glanced around nervously, taking care to watch behind them.
Behind him, the ship shook, metal groaning ominously. The sound of explosions echoed throughout the ship. The enemy was coming closer.
"hurry, hurry, hurry!" Yuina called, her steps quickening.
"Can you guide me to the Weapon room," Walker asked. "I think we can't reach to escape pod without weapons."
Yuina glanced at him, her green eyes sharp and calculating. Then she nodded. "Good thinking. Follow me!"
They turned down another corridor, running through the dimly lit halls. The ship continued to shake, and the distant sounds of metal tearing sent chills down Walker’s spine. Whatever was attacking them was powerful.
They skidded to a halt in front of a heavy security door. Yuina quickly tapped on the holographic interface beside it, her fingers flying across the screen.
ACCESS DENIED.
"What?!" Yuina scowled, trying again.
ACCESS DENIED. UNAUTHORIZED ENTRY.
"Damn it!" she cursed, slamming her fist against the console.
"Can you override it?" Walker asked, gripping his rifle.
Yuina took a deep breath. "I can try, but it’ll take time."
Walker turned, scanning the hallway behind them. The red warning lights pulsed, casting eerie shadows along the walls. The ship trembled again, another explosion shaking the floor beneath them.
"Hurry, Yuina," he said quietly.
"Almost there," she muttered, sweat beading on her forehead as she worked.
Then—
ACCESS GRANTED.
The heavy door slid open with a mechanical hiss, revealing rows of advanced weaponry.
Walker’s eyes widened. "Now that’s what I’m talking about."
Yuina grabbed a plasma rifle, slinging it over her shoulder. "Take what you need. We don’t have much time."
Walker didn’t hesitate. He grabbed a high-energy pulse rifle, extra ammo packs, and a few stun grenades. His fingers brushed over a sleek black combat knife, and he took it, feeling its perfect balance in his grip.
"Yuina."
She looked up. "Yes, Walker?"
"how about research to rule the world," Walker asks.
"I was canceled," Yuina said with a blush
"No, no, no, no!" Walker roared, grabbing her shoulders. "You can do it."
"because of you!"
"Why?"
"Honey! You fucked me every time! Not only at home, you did it in the university lab too. That's why I couldn't concentrate on the plan to canalize the world." Yuina said.
Walker felt his jaw drop. "What—"
Walker blinked, processing Yuina’s words. "Wait, are you saying… you abandoned your plan to take over the world because we were too busy… doing it?"
Yuina crossed her arms, her cheeks flushed. "Yes!" she huffed. "Every time I tried to focus, you distracted me. In the lab, in my dorm, in the library— do you know how hard it is to focus when your boyfriend keeps making me weak in the knees?"
Walker smirked, stepping closer. "Well, technically, I was your assistant. Shouldn’t I have helped you stay on track?"
Yuina shot him a glare but couldn't hide the way her lips twitched. "You were not helpful at all!"
Walker leaned in, lowering his voice. "But you liked it."
Yuina groaned, covering her face. "Ugh, this is not the time for this conversation!"
BOOM!
A nearby explosion shook the ship, snapping them back to the situation at hand.
Walker tightened his grip on his rifle. "Alright, alright, world domination talk later. Right now, let's just make sure we survive."
Yuina nodded, pulling up the holographic map again. "Escape pod is still 18 kilometers away. We need to move."
They sprinted down the corridor, their boots echoing against the metal floor.
Suddenly, red warning lights flashed, and an automated voice blared:
INTRUDERS DETECTED. HOSTILES APPROACHING.
Walker and Yuina skidded to a stop.
From the far end of the hallway, enemy soldiers in dark combat armor stormed toward them, rifles raised.
Yuina cursed. "Damn it! They found us!"
Walker smirked, raising his rifle. "Let’s see if they can keep us."
Yuina strapped a small energy shield onto her wrist and then turned to him. "Ready?"
Walker loaded his rifle. "Ready."
She smirked. "Then let’s get out of here."
They sprinted back into the corridor—this time, armed and prepared for a fight.
Yuina and Walker moved through the corridors, dodging bullets and lasers as they fired back. Their enemies weren't as good as Yuina, but she could tell they were better trained than most of the others.
More soldiers charged from both sides, firing everything they had.
Walker fired back, picking off three of the soldiers while saving Yuina same time.
"Go!" Yuina yelled. "We can't hold this position!"
"Got it!" Walker yelled back. "Run!"
With that, he ducked behind cover and fired his pistol, blasting one soldier in the chest. The man fell, dropping his weapon.
Yuina burst out of cover and fired, hitting another two soldiers before they could fire back.
Walker followed her lead.
At the moment Hologram screen appears in front of him.
> Hide at the Monitor control room
"Honey, we should hide in the Monitor control room," Walker said.
"Already done!" Yuina snapped. "Now run!"
He ran after her, jumping over fallen bodies. Behind him, Yuina spun around and opened fire, taking out a group of soldiers with a single blast.
They burst into the Monitor Control Room and slammed the door shut behind them. Yuina immediately activated the security lock, her fingers flying over the console. The door hissed as heavy metal shutters sealed it off.
"That should buy us some time," she muttered, panting.
Walker exhaled, wiping sweat from his brow. "Yeah, but not much. They’ll find another way in soon."
The room was dimly lit, filled with holographic monitors displaying different parts of the ship. A massive central screen showed a live feed of the corridors outside—the enemy soldiers were regrouping, preparing another assault.
Yuina scanned the screens. "We need to find a clear path to the escape pod."
Walker’s gaze flicked to a different monitor—it displayed a shuttered hallway leading to another section of the ship. But…
"Damn," he muttered. "That area is crawling with enemies."
Yuina clenched her jaw. "They’re blocking the most direct route. We’ll have to fight our way through."
Walker crossed his arms. "Or… we could flush them out."
Yuina turned to him, intrigued. "What are you thinking?"
He pointed to one of the screens. "See those maintenance vents? If we can reroute the emergency fire suppression system, we can flood that hallway with coolant gas. It won’t kill them, but it’ll force them to retreat or pass out."
Yuina smirked. "Smart. And while they’re busy choking on that gas… we slip through unnoticed."
Walker grinned. "Exactly."
Yuina cracked her knuckles. "Alright, honey. Let’s make it happen."
She sat at the main control panel, hacking into the ship’s systems. Walker stood behind her, keeping an eye on the monitors.
ACCESS GRANTED. FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM OVERRIDE INITIATED.
The vents in the enemy-infested hallway hissed as thick, freezing white gas poured out. The soldiers on the screen panicked, coughing and stumbling as the gas consumed the area.
Yuina smirked. "That should do it."
Walker grabbed his rifle. "Then let’s move before they recover."
They exchanged a look—then sprinted toward the now-cleared hallway, determined to reach the escape pod before it was too late.
