We are in the car driving; I am really happy, happy that I am negative with cancer.
“What tests has she done?”
“Nothing much just pressed the mole region”
“Oh, I would have done that” I turned towards him with shock to his words, his expressions didn’t change, his eyes on the road. Fuck man, how he can be so naughty, I hit him on his shoulder.
“What?”
“Nothing”
“I really would have” he said again
“Please stop it Jake” he made his innocent face and we both laughed
We were in a restaurant, I am starving. But one thing, did I miss something there at the hospital.
“Can I ask you something?”
“Hmm” he said with mouthful of food. Okay I won’t ask, he might not answer maybe, it’s his personal thing “Ask me pouter” I narrowed my eyes. I’ll ask, if he doesn’t want to share, he will not answer.
“At the hospital, Doctor asked whether you want to see them now, but you said next time” I asked slowly.
“Hmm”
“Who are they?”
“Children” I am confused, does he have children? I didn’t know that, no, he didn’t tell anything about children. If he has, why are they at the hospital? If no, who are they? Ask him Ell, my curiosity awakened.
“What? Who? Whose children?” I asked with the most natural way I can.
“I fund for the children who are fighting cancer, that’s how I know Dr. Jerry” so he not only invests but also funds, that is so thoughtful. I never thought of that.
“It is a good thing” he smiled, but his smile is sad why?
“Why the cancer?” he looked at me with pain, don’t know what the expression is but, I think sad and mixed. Did I cross? Fuck Ell, your curiosity kills. What should I do now? I think I should apologize.
“Sorry, I think I shouldn’t have asked” we remained silent. I really must have crossed more than expected. Come on Ell stop it; don’t even try to do that again. We completed our supper and started. We remained silent; we were never this silent even in the first meet or in the pregnancy time ever. Yeah, that day when his morning meeting got cancelled we were but, after that no.
“My friend died at the age of 16 with cancer” holy fuck, that is sad, he had a friend? Everyone has friends, don’t be stupid Ell “From then, I didn’t have any friends” okay so he too had a sad memory “I went through a trauma” I can understand, he stopped. Why? What happened? “So you are trying your best to support the children with cancer” he nodded “Then you should have seen them” he looked at me surprise. Why?
“You are okay with that?”
“Of course” do I look that cruel to him, he smiled “I will join you helping them” I said
“Will you?” I nodded, but why is he so surprised? I don’t like relations, not the humans. I too have humanity and I love children. I am going to be a mother now. But I didn’t expect this from him, he doesn’t talk much about his personal life, I too don’t but, he knew everything about me. I mean my life is not a mystery. I knew he doesn’t have friends. Now I get the reason why he doesn’t have any friends, but this side of him is new, very new. I thought he is not social but, he is busy helping. I should start thinking positively of him. He really is a good man. I can’t take my eyes off him .We drove back home with me looking at him, he is saying something which I didn’t listen but, nodded in between. I fake listened. I even changed his name to Mr. First in my phone, I hope he saved my number as Mrs. First. I am changing I can see that. I don’t know whether the change is good or bad, but I’m changing.
“Please don’t over think Elena, get some sleep” he kissed my forehead and left. Inside Nat is watching TV. She looked at me, I smiled.
“Hey Ell, looking gorgeous” she winked
“So are you” I sat beside her
“How is the weekend?”
“Not bad”
“And?” she is still looking at me expecting some answers. What? Okay fine, I tell her about the cancer issue and what happened. She was shocked. I told her about Mr. First funding cancer fighting children, I think she is impressed. She was impressed when I told her about his house. He even invited Nat and Nick to his and they had a night there with us. She thinks he loves me. I don’t agree with that but, I wish it to be true. Yeah I hate relationships but, don’t know why I want it to be true. We had a talk and a whole week talk.
“I’m happy for you babe” I smile and we hugged each other.
In the office everyone is busy, I really want to rest. I am fully drained. I think I should call Mr. First and go. If my mom finds out that I’m over working, she’ll definitely take a class; it’s a mother daughter thing, every daughter can relate. No I’ll message him, if he says he is free and then I’ll call.
Me: Mr. First are you free? I typed and sent it to him. Within a minute got a call from him. As expected. I rolled my eyes and took the call
“Elena, are you okay?”
“Yes I’m, but a bit strained”
“I’ll be there in ten, take care until then” he said and disconnected the call. I think he winked. I smile to his winking. What is the time now? It is 4:45, he’ll call when get here. I got all my things, sat on my chair and relaxed myself.
“Hi Ell” my teammate Jessie called me from behind
“Hi Jess” why is she here now, please dude no more work.
“Ell, I’m going to get married” she said with shy
“Congratulations” I hugged her “I’m very happy for you” I really am
“Thank you”
“When and where?”
“This month, in England at his family house” she is happy “I know it is far but try to come” she looked my behind “you two too, please try” I turned back it is Nick and Mike, they smiled and nodded.
“I have to share this with everyone I know, okay then bye” we hugged again and she left
“Where is the marriage?”Nick asked
“In England”
“Will you attend?”
“I don’t know but really want to” I shrugged.
“At least she is telling about getting married, some are not sharing and even keeping it as a secret” Mike said sarcastically
