Chapter eight
I looked deeply into Wilfred’s eyes. He was looking at me as well. I asked for a favor from him but I wasn’t sure he would grant it. At that moment, looking at Wilfred made me think if he was still the same person who used to be my close friend. He wasn’t kind and compassionate like in the past, now he was rough, heartless, and brutal.
For goodness sake, why will Wilfred want to kill his own daughter? He would gain nothing other than another stain of blood on his hands.
Landon stood by, watching us closely. He was thinking about something but I wasn’t sure what it was. In my heart, I prayed that Landon had mercy and spared my life. Apart from Wilfred, he seemed to be the only person who could help me out.
But that was only a wish…
Landon was a loyal servant of Wilfred. He would never betray his Alpha to help me and my daughter.
“What gives you the guts to ask a wish from me? Am I Santa?” Wilfred asked carefully. He was looking at me bitterly with his face looking very mean.
“Wilfred…” I called deliberately. “I don’t think you can afford to waste two lives all because of an unidentified grudge. I don’t know my offense towards you. Also, you haven’t told me my offense. Why do you keep punishing me for what I don’t know? I don’t like this one bit!”
I stopped talking now. I glanced at Wilfred. I had to check his facial expression.
The moment I saw Wilfred, I froze!
Words couldn’t express what his facial expression looked like. It was a killer.
I felt as if he wanted to pounce on me and tear me into pieces. At that moment, Wilfred looked like a hungry lion. He was practically breathing hard with his fists folded.
I waited for the drama in a breathless form. I was so afraid. I didn’t want to undergo another torture or punishment, which would come next after Wilfred couldn’t control his anger anymore.
“Did…” Wilfred’s voice trailed off. “Was your speech addressed to me? I don’t believe it so I need clarity.”
I began to shake. I was in awe, wonder, and fear of Wilfred. I was trembling and I forced myself to talk.
“No…” I trembled. “I was not addressing you, Sire. It was a mistake on my part.”
I wondered how I let those words out without stammering. Even with the level of my fear, I managed to let those delicate words out. That was a great success on my part. I’d done considerably well.
Wilfred laughed aloud. It was a dry, long, and meaningless laugh. I could see Landon smile as soon as Wilfred laughed.
Birds of a feather…
“You are very funny, Myra,” Wilfred said while laughing. “Who knew you could be so scared? It’s very funny in case you do not know.”
I kept mute. I was still scared and I needed no other problem on my hands. I was determined not to talk back no matter what Wilfred said. I was still in the risk of losing my life and that of my daughter. What I needed at that moment wasn’t an argument. What I needed was a very good strategy to escape my stipulated problems.
“That’s true, my lord…” Landon chirped in. “I only kept my cool when she was ranting because I wanted you to talk back first. She is an undisciplined and disrespectful slut who deserves nothing but extreme torture and death. Do not spare her life, my lord. If you do, she will come back haunting you and this pack.”
Hmm! I was only realizing how big a foe I had in Landon. The brat was after my life and he seemed to hate me more than Wilfred. This was my first time noticing this but I was thoroughly convinced that Landon was the secret to all my problems. He must have been the one instigating Wilfred against me all this while.
But I was lost…
Why?
Because I could do nothing…
I was powerless and weak. I could practically and literally do nothing! I couldn’t dare go against a maid not to talk of powerful and strong men like Landon and Wilfred. They could overpower me with only a finger of theirs.
Anyway, I continued to wonder what Wilfred would say about Landon’s speech about not letting me off. I strongly wished that Wilfred refused his opinion.
But it wasn’t meant to be…
Instantly, I could hear Wilfred’s distinct voice. He was about to say something which I was sure was going to hurt me. Don’t ask me how I knew, call me a psychiatrist.
“You are actually right, Landon. Sparing Myra will only make her be a thorn in my flesh. I am not ready to fight that out, you know…” Wilfred said slowly. He looked at me carefully as he talked. Wilfred grinned and opened his mouth. His teeth were dirty.
I kept my eyes off him. I never knew that Wilfred had started to stop brushing his teeth. His teeth, that dirty, must be smelling as well. Seeing that again reminded me that this was not the ‘Wilfred’ I fell in love and had sex with. He looked like a whole different version of himself.
Leaving Wilfred’s dirty teeth aside, I decided to focus on his last statement. Wilfred had emphasized on following Landon’s advice which was certainly going to harm me. On that note, I needed to convince Wilfred otherwise. That was the only way available for me to save my head. It felt futile but even still, I had to try. A trial couldn’t harm me anyway.
“Don’t do that, Wilfred. I am only a weak and innocent soul. I promise to pay you back in threefold. All I seek is that you spare me,” I said solemnly. I knew I looked pitiful. Truth be said, I was banking on pity. I wanted Wilfred to pity me. That could make him forgive me and let me go.
But instead of drawing pity, all I drew was laughter from Wilfred. I began to imagine what I would do to Wilfred if I had power against him. The brat was making my serious words sound unserious while they weren’t. I was officially fed up!
“Very, very funny…” Wilfred commented. I could also hear Landon’s laughter all over the room. The combination of Wilfred and Landon amounted to chaos. The sound they both made while laughing sounded distasteful. I began to hate everything they did. They made me feel bad so what stopped me from castigating them in my mind?
I kept mute. I waited for Wilfred to address me personally.
“You want to pay me back, right?” Wilfred asked me. He was facing me.
“Yes, my Lord,” I replied hurriedly. I was glad that Wilfred was finally considering my proposal. At that moment, I began to imagine that things went well for me. I didn’t want to die, you know?
Wilfred shook his head soberly. I was vigilant enough to tell that he was bringing very, very bad news for me. Anyway, I still hoped for the best. Things could change in the end.
“How do you want to pay me back?” Wilfred began. “Are you paying me back the way I treated you or otherwise?”
I took a deep breath. That didn’t sound like bad news. Instead, it was reassuring as it helped me know that Wilfred was seriously considering me.
“No…” I began without thinking. “I am not going to pay you back the way you treated me. I won’t treat you the same way you treated me, Sire.”
Wilfred smiled.
I was glad. Was that a reassuring smile? Perhaps Wilfred was considering my proposal? Was that a smile of approval?
Suddenly, Wilfred’s smile didn’t look mean, it was tender and loving. I didn’t know if it was my eyesight or emotions. All I knew was that a part of me was playing tricks on me.
“Does that mean that you will be paying me back with a violent attitude?” Wilfred asked me. His voice was building up gradually to its aggressive nature.
I was quick to argue against Wilfred’s opinion.
“No, it won’t be a violent attitude. That’s exactly the reason why I said I wasn’t going to pay you back the way you treated me…” I told him sharply.
Wilfred laughed loudly and hysterically.
Now, he looked at me carefully. He was very serious now.
“Do you mean I’m a violent person? Is that why you don’t want to pay me back the same way I treated you?” Wilfred asked me furiously. His voice was high-pitched now.
I’d fallen into Wilfred’s trap!
“No, Sire! I did not mean it that way,” I pleaded for forgiveness. My heart was beating loudly once more.
But Wilfred wouldn’t hear me out…
“Shut it! You have no right to plead. I hereby order your beheading this moment!” Wilfred ordered.
I could see Landon coming closer to grab me…
