Chapter 92 The Moore's Family Loss - Part 2
The officer drew closer and stood next to Elena's body. She was still in the clothes she wore upon leaving the house to find Angelina, indicating her body was yet to receive attention from the morgue. There was a clear bullet wound on her forehead. The officer took pictures of that. His gaze shifted to her chest region upon noticing missing buttons and a knife mark at the edge of her jacket, which she wore over an inner blouse. The officer, under the watchful gaze of Bryce and Marcus, opened the jacket while wearing gloves. Elena's blouse had multiple knife marks going through it.
"I would like the postmortem on this body," the officer said to the staff at the morgue. "Mr Moore, my apologies for your loss," the officer said to Bryce.
"Who did this to my sister?" Bryce asked the officer through gritted teeth.
"Mr Moore, please calm yourself. Investigations have started, and we will arrest the criminal soon. However, do you have any idea where Ms Angela Anderson is? I understand you were with her a while ago," the officer asked.
"What do you need her for?" Bryce asked with a frown.
"She was the last person to see the victim alive before she was killed. I am hoping she may have some information that would help," the officer said, and Bryce nodded.
Even though Bryce nodded, he was wondering why Elena would go see Angela. The two are not friends, and they only met once at the family house. So how did Elena find Angela and meet up with her? This was the thought running through Bryce's mind when they exited the morgue.
"I don't want you stressing her. She is not feeling good. So if she is not ready to say anything, I don't want you pushing her," Bryce warned, even though he was still wondering how Elena found Angela.
The trio arrived at Angela's ward only to find it empty.
"She is probably in the washroom," Bryce said and knocked gently on the door with the inscription washroom written boldly above it.
He was met with silence. He opened the door.
"Angela!" Bryce called out to her as she was slowly entering the washroom.
It was empty.
"Mr Moore, I suspect Ms Angela may have taken to her heels. This makes her a suspect in the murder of Ms Elena Moore," the officer said, and Bryce frowned.
That was his sister lying dead in the morgue, but he doesn't believe Angela did it. Angela may be strong, but this is something he believes she would never do.
"What are you saying?" Bryce asked, his heart racing in anger.
"I am saying the innocent does not run," the officer said.
"Angela is in no condition to run," Bryce still defended.
"Then it means she has an accomplice. Did she come here with anyone?" the officer asked, and Bryce went silent.
"Mr Moore, I am trying to gather information that will help find the murderer of your sister and bring her justice. Keeping information to yourself would not help," the officer said.
"She was here with a lady friend. I don't know her name," Bryce said.
"She is called Zora," Marcus quickly provided the name, and Bryce shot him a glance.
"Do you happen to know her full name?" the officer asked, and Marcus stared at Bryce, wondering if he should answer, but Bryce just looked away.
"I am not too sure," Marcus replied, not sure if he should give Zora's name away or not.
"You are not sure, or you don't want to tell me?" the officer asked.
"Finish what you started," Bryce said.
"Zora Madison," Marcus replied.
"Thank you," the officer said to Marcus and shifted his gaze to Bryce. "Mr Moore, I will keep you updated on the case," the officer said and exited the ward.
"The next time you speak when I have not permitted you, find yourself another job," Bryce said to Marcus and walked towards the door and soon out of the ward.
Marcus hurried his steps behind him, and they were soon in the car.
"Take me to the 13th Street, Block A," Bryce instructed.
"Yes, boss," Marcus said and quickly put the car into motion, heading for the location.
Marcus slowed down as they approached the apartment. The place was flooded with police cars, officers and the media.
"Let's leave," Bryce said to Marcus, and Marcus turned the car around.
"Are we heading back home?" Marcus asked.
"Yes," Bryce replied and went back to processing the entire incident.
Bryce's phone buzzed, snapping him out of his thinking. He retrieved the phone from his breast pocket and checked the caller ID. It was Devon, his father calling. He answered the call and brought the phone to his ear.
"Bryce, come home immediately," Devon said, and Bryce already suspected his father had caught wind of the news.
He was supposed to let them know anyway.
"Change course. We are going to the family house," Bryce said.
"Yes, boss," Marcus acknowledged and made a turn at the next U-turn and started driving toward Bryce's family home.
After a couple of minutes' drive, Marcus drove into the compound of the Moore Family home. He found a place to park, and Bryce got out of the car. Bryce headed for the front door while Marcus remained in the parked car after rolling down the windows to let him some fresh air.
Bryce pushed the front door open and came face to face with Patricia, whose face was covered in tears.
"Bryce, is it true that Elena is dead?" Patricia asked, and Bryce hugged her instead.
"No, no, no. I won't believe it until I see my daughter with my own two eyes," Patricia said in tears, but Bryce kept her in his embrace.
"No, no, Elena, no," Patricia cried.
Devon walked in a few minutes later.
"See what your stubbornness has caused?" Devon yelled at Bryce. "Your sister lied to me and went in search of that girl you call your wife. See what she had done to your sister. I warned you, but you won't listen. Now your sister is gone," he added.
"Shut up! Shut up!" Patricia yelled. "Is that what you can do at this moment? Find someone to blame? The police are still investigating, and you are already concluding that Angela did this. Is there something you are not telling us, or you are just using the situation to make Bryce see reason to dump his pregnant wife?" she added.
"Woman, you also have yourself to blame for your daughter's death. Have you not encouraged her, she would still be alive, but the biggest blame goes to you, Bryce, for bringing a murderer into our home," Devon continued.
"Devon, what are you not telling us?" Patricia questioned through gritted teeth, freeing herself from Bryce, her pain and anger evident on her face. "Who is Angela, and why do you hate her so much? Why the conclusion that she killed our daughter when the police are still running an investigation? Devon, who is Angela?" she added, staring angrily at Devon.
Bryce stood there in silence, now questioning his trust in Angela. Did she do it or not?
