Chapter 85 My Brother is Looking for You - Part 2
"Let's confirm first that that is where she is staying now, and I will pay her a visit," Bryce said.
Marcus nodded and followed Bryce with the two others heading for the door. Soon they were on their way to Diamond Corporation.
At a coffee shop in New York City, Elena was sitting behind a small table with a hot cup of coffee in hand. She occasionally looked in the direction of the door. She was waiting for her friend. She had already spent twenty minutes, and her friend was unreachable via phone. She emptied the cup of coffee and called the waiter. She stood up and was about to leave when the door to the coffee shop opened. A young lady strode in, and Elena smiled.
"I would have a bottle of water, please," Elena said to the waiter who was also about to leave after collecting his money.
"Yes, ma'am," the waiter said.
"Monica, over here," Elena said, waving her hand in the air.
Monica stood at the entrance, scanning the place for Elena. Her gaze quickly fell on the lady waving her hands in the air. She smiled and walked up to Elena. Elena stood up and hugged her.
"I almost left, you know," Elena informed her when they both sat down.
"Sorry, I couldn't leave home as planned. My mum needed my help," Monica apologised.
"That is fine. What matters is you are here now," Elena said. "Care for anything?" she asked.
"A bottle of water is fine," Monica said, and Elena ordered another bottle of water.
"So, here is the thing. My brother is one person who kept women at a distance. He focuses more on work. Recently, he met this extraordinary woman, who made him look her way," Elena narrated.
"By extraordinary woman, you mean Ms Angela," Monica chipped in.
"Yes," Elena confirmed. "However, there was a little misunderstanding the day he decided he wanted to introduce Ms Angela to the family. My father freaked out, and Ms Angela took off. We have been searching for her since. My brother needs her. He is a mess since she left," she added. "Help me out here, it's the first time I have seen my brother care for someone. I don't want him to go back to the cold stone kind of person he used to be," she pleaded and reached out for Monica's hand.
"Well, I don't know Ms Angela directly. It's Ms Zora I know. And Ms Angela happens to be her best friend. Ms Zora and my cousin work in the same company. They are good friends. I can get to Ms Zora through my cousin, and we can arrange for something," Monica said.
"I will appreciate that. My brother is unable to sleep. He can't even eat," Elena said, making a sad face.
Meanwhile, back at Diamond Corporation, Bryce was in a meeting with the company board of directors. Susan was part and so was his father, Devon. Susan was not part of the board of directors, but Devon had invited her to offer her some of the company's shares.
"She is my future daughter-in-law. So, as the owner of the company, I give her 10% shares of the company," Devon said, and Bryce was surprised.
He turned to look at his father, who was sitting at the head of the table right next to him. Devon just smiled and continued to address the other board members.
"From now on, we have a new board member, Susan McClean. Congratulations, Susan," Devon said and clapped.
"Thank you,' Susan appreciated with a broad smile plastered on her face.
The board members had nothing to say except to clap. They smiled and clapped, but one could tell that not all were happy with Susan becoming a board member. Their shares will be reduced so that Susan can get those shares.
They had other discussions, and the meeting came to a close. The board members, including Susan, left the boardroom, leaving Bryce with his father.
"Dad, why would you do such a thing without informing me about it first?" Bryce questioned.
"What do you mean?" Devon asked, completely relaxed in his seat.
"You made Susan a board member with 10% shares. Meaning the other board members will have their shares reduced, and you didn't even give me a heads up," Bryce raised with concern.
"Susan is going to be your wife. So what is the big deal setting her up?" Devon asked, and Bryce frowned.
"I am already married, Dad," Bryce said through gritted teeth as he tried to control his anger.
"Not for long. I meant my words when I said you will have to choose between your inheritance and that marriage. Today is just the beginning," Devon said, sounding very serious, and he stood up.
Bryce watched his father walk out of the room. He slammed his hand on the table once he was alone. It would have been easier if Angela hadn't pregnant. He would have sacrificed what he feels for her, but he can't bring himself to give up on his wife and child.
Bryce exited the boardroom and returned to his office. He quickly called Marcus and waited for him to answer.
"Have you confirmed Angela's location?" Bryce asked.
"Not yet, sir. I am waiting for feedback from the one I sent to do the job," Marcus replied.
"Why is it taking that long?" Bryce yelled on the phone.
"I am sorry, sir, I will have an answer by the close of the day," Marcus replied.
"I am giving you up to noon to confirm if Angela stays in that apartment or not," Bryce said and ended the call angrily.
Angrily, he pushed the documents on the table to the floor.
Back in Bernard's office, he was a little inactive. He was still replaying the incident of the previous night in his mind multiple times. He was wondering how he ended up getting intimate with Eva. Now he has to take responsibility for her.
Out in the coffee shop, Monica decided to call her cousin. Monica dialled her cousin's number and waited for the call to connect. Elena looked on in anticipation.
"Hello Elorm, is it a good time to talk?" Monica asked.
"Yeah, what's up?" Elorm said, his voice laced with excitement.
"A friend of mine wants to speak with Ms Zora. Do you think you can help arrange a meet-up?" Monica asked.
"I can. Zora is not difficult, but what is it about?" Elorm asked.
"It's a complicated family issue. The less you know, the better," Monica replied.
"Huh, I see. Up to one of your being a hero mission again, I get," Elorm said. "I will see what I will do," he added, and the call ended.
