Chapter 84 My Brother is Looking for You - Part 1
The night slowly passed by, and it was soon morning. Zora was first to wake up, and her movement woke Angela up. The two ladies got ready for work. Zora kept teasing Angela all through about what happened in the middle of the night till they left the apartment for work.
At Bryce's family home, Elena was also up getting ready for her class, but she wanted to meet her friend who would lead her to Zora, so she decided to leave home earlier than her usual time. Devon came downstairs and met Elena coming from the kitchen, holding a cup of coffee, fully dressed.
"And where are you going this early? Your class do not start until 11 am, and it's just a 45-minute drive from here," Devon asked, looking at the clock on the wall, which read 7 am.
"I am meeting up with a friend for something very important," Elena replied.
"What is so important that you have to leave this house early to meet up with the person? How about the person comes over to you?" Devon said.
"Dad, I am not a kid anymore. I can take care of myself. Besides, I am helping Bryce find his wife," Elena replied.
"You are what?" Devon asked, sounding angry.
"It's that a crime? Dad, Bryce's wife is pregnant. It is right for my brother to take responsibility. I know I would not be happy if a man gets me pregnant and abandons me," Elena defended.
"Who told you she is pregnant?" Devon asked angrily.
"Mum did, and Bryce confirms it," Elena replied.
"Okay, let's say she is pregnant, it doesn't mean your brother should marry her. Besides, your brother did not abandon his wife. That woman is evil, and she ran away when she was found out," Devon said. "Your reason for getting married should not be because you got pregnant," he added.
"Fine, but they are already married, Dad," Elena pointed out. "Dad, you keep saying Ms Angela is not good for Bryce, but you have not given us a single reason why? I want to know. Why is she evil, bad or whatever name you use to describe her? Why do you think she is bad for my brother? I want to know," Elena asked and sipped her coffee, staring at her father, waiting for an answer.
Devon could not tell her the truth about why he didn't want Angela around Bryce, and he was struggling with coming up with a story that would convince his family to hate Angela and support him rather than support Bryce in finding Angela.
"I see you don't have any reason," Elena said and drew closer to Devon. "Dad, I am a good judge of character, and you know it. Ms Angela is a good woman. She looked traumatised but not evil, as you describe her. That is what I deduced from my first encounter. Bryce had never been with any woman aside from Ms Susan. This is the woman he had been able to come so close to, and she is carrying his child. My niece or nephew, whatever the gender of that child will be when born. Dad, I know you want what is best for all of us. Trust our judgment and know that you brought us up well. Give Ms Angela a chance and give Bryce a chance to make his own choice, please," she pleaded.
"Hmm," Devon said after listening to his daughter.
He knew at this moment he could only agree to his daughter's submission and find another way to work things out and keep Angela away from Bryce.
"Okay," Devon agreed, and Elena smiled.
"Thank you, Dad," Elena said happily and hugged his father after putting her cup of coffee on the table close to where they were having their conversation. "I will be back soon," she added.
"Okay," Devon said and watched Elena climb the staircase carrying her cup of coffee with her.
I need to find a way around this. I can't let Angela and Bryce be together. This would destroy my family. Devon thought and walked away, heading for his office.
At the hotel, Bernard had just woken up. He dragged himself up to a sitting position and was immediately hit by a headache. He rested his head in his palm, trying to recollect the events of the previous night. He recalled that he was going to meet up with Angela. He recalled entering a dimly lit room, and he felt a pain in his neck. His hand moved to his neck, and that was when his vision was freed to notice the strange environment. He quickly got down from the bed, scanning the place, wondering where he was. His appearance told him something happened.
Did I just sleep with Angela? Bernard thought, and the thought put a smile on his face.
He liked Angela, so if they slept together, that's nothing. He would just take responsibility. That is no big deal. He wondered where Angela had gone because he was alone in bed. He looked around for his clothes and saw a female's clothing lying on the floor, meaning Angela was still around. He heard a door open, and he shifted his gaze to the door. His gaze fixated on the door, which was opening slowly, and his heart waited in anticipation. He imagined Angela entering the room in a bathrobe or a towel wrapped around her chest.
"Good morning," Eva greeted.
The smile vanished from Bernard's face, and it was replaced with shock and confusion.
"What are you doing here?" Bernard asked and quickly put on his trousers.
"Have you forgotten so soon what happened?" Eva replied, sounding like she had been wronged. "You forced me," she added.
"Eva, what did you do?" Bernard asked, grabbing Eva by the neck.
Bernard pressed Eva's back against the wall behind her. He was only wearing his black trousers, so his upper torso was still bare. His beautiful, firm chest and well-formed biceps were out for Eva to feast her gaze on, but when death threatens you, you can't have time to admire anything. Eva focused on Bernard.
"It's a question of what you did to me," Eva replied, holding Bernard's hand with both of her hands, trying to get it off her neck. "I was waiting for someone, and you staggered into the room where I was waiting for the person. I realised you were not okay. You were holding your neck and calling out to Angela. I looked outside and saw the back of a lady hurriedly walking away, but I was not sure who it was, even though the person's features looked like Angela's. I only aided you out of the place and brought you here so you can rest, but you grabbed me and ... she said and lowered her lashes.
Bernard let go of Eva, wondering who would do this to him.
At Bryce's home, Bryce was getting ready to leave the apartment for work when Marcus walked up to him.
"Sir, we have a confirmation of Angela's location now, but she went out of the apartment. How do you want us to proceed?" Marcus asked.
"Let's confirm first that that is where she is staying now, and I will pay her a visit," Bryce said.
