Chapter 61 A strange Caller
Back at the conference, Bryce, after hearing the reporter's question, already figured the question was just to start another scandal using his words right after the conference. He had come there to defend Angela, and he didn't even understand what pushed him to do that, a question that would start another scandal has been thrown at him.
"This press conference was organised to clear the air of the misunderstanding travelling around social media. So why are you asking personal questions?" Bryce asked, looking in the direction of the reporter who had asked the question.
"I am a reporter. It's my duty to gather all the information that will answer all the questions I believe the people will want to ask," the reporter replied.
"I see," Bryce said and shifted his gaze to other members of the media.
"I would not take any personal questions. If you have any questions concerning my submission, feel free to ask," Bryce said, and the room was dead silent.
The conference came to an end, and everyone left the hall. Bryce returned to the company with Britney, who had multiple questions on her mind. Bryce did not answer the reporter's question, which was a smart move, but now she was thinking about it. Was there something going on between Bryce and Angela? Why is he defending her? These were the questions running through Britney's mind as they drove back to the company.
Bryce, on the other hand, had a different thought running through his mind. He was wondering why he attended the press conference to defend Angela. Britney was capable of handling the press conference. Was he growing an attachment towards Angela because he was getting intimate with her? He only enjoyed her body and nothing more. Bryce concluded his thought.
"The conference went well," Britney said to Bryce, seeing the news on social media upon check.
Bryce didn't check but just nodded and continued with what he was doing. They returned to the office and continued their work for the rest of the day.
Meanwhile, back at Bryce's apartment, Angela remained in her bedroom feeling bored. She was feeling better now and had the chance to watch the live conference. She was happy Bryce was able to defend the company and pull the company's name out of the mud. She felt guilty for her actions, though. If only she had listened to Bryce and stayed at home, this wouldn't happened.
Later that evening, Angela was still inside her room when Bryce returned to the apartment. He went straight to the guest room, freshened up and changed into a simple white T-shirt and black trousers. Angela was inside her room when she heard a knock on her door.
"Ms Angela, the boss is in and requests your presence in the dining room," the servant informed Angela after Angela invited her in.
Angela nodded and got down from the bed. She grabbed a comb and combed out her messy hair. She braided it into a pony and exited her room, heading for the dining room.
She walked into the dining room and found Bryce sitting at his usual spot. The head of the table.
"Good evening," Angela greeted, and Bryce only responded with a 'hmm', raising his head to stare at her.
Angela lowered her head and found a place to sit with Bryce's gaze following her all around. A chair separated Angela from Byrce when she sat down.
"Angela, I hired you because you displayed skills and intelligence none of the applicants had. You were poorly dressed, but you caught my attention with your intelligence. Your probation is not over, but you have proved you are exactly as I expected. Do not let our marriage get into your head. The fact that I share a bed with you and get intimate with you does not mean you can disobey me. Do you understand?" Bryce said, his voice very strong and commanding.
His face carried an unreadable expression, and it terrified Angela. She gulped and started feeling dizzy again. She rested her back on the backrest of the chair so Bryce would not notice what was happening to her.
"I understand, and I am sorry for what happened," Angela apologises, her head lowered and her hand placed on the table for support.
Bryce only responded with a 'hmm', and he dished the food onto his plate and began to eat. Angela dished her food but could not eat. She stirred her food with her spoon as if lost in thought.
"You don't want to eat?" Bryce asked, drawing Angela's attention to himself.
"It's not that. I don't have an appetite," Angela replied honestly, her voice very low.
Bryce just stared at her, concluding that his conversation with her just now made her lose her appetite. He decided to ignore her. He finished his food, stood up and left Angela sitting behind her food, still stirring it slowly.
Angela stood up from behind the food a few minutes after Bryce had left and also left the dining area. She suddenly felt sick as she walked towards her room. As soon as she entered her room, she started feeling dizzy. She dragged herself towards the bed and lay on it.
Back at Eva's apartment, Eva was on the call with the man she met a while ago.
"Look, you need to find a way to get her to come over to your place. I can't help with that. I am no friend of hers, and neither would Mr Moore be happy to see me around his apartment," Eva said.
"Fine, I would find a way. That means my charge will go up. Now she is not enough anymore. You need to add your body to the payment," the man said.
"I will pay cash. Name your price," Eva said.
"Ha ha ha ha ha," the man laughed. "You can't pay me. I have all I need. What I don't have is your body," he said, suddenly sounding serious. "It would be great to add it to my achievement," he added.
"No, you had my body once. You can't have me again," Eva said, sounding very stern.
"Okay, I am not doing anything then," the man said, and Eva clenched her teeth together, hearing the man's reply.
She tapped her feet impatiently. She needed Susan's help, and Susan had asked for her help. She couldn't mess this up.
"Fine," Eva said on the phone. "I will do it," she accepted. "I need some pictures of Angela coming to your apartment. And I want a picture of her in bed with you," she added.
"Okay, you have a deal. Make sure you pay up," the man said and laughed before ending the call.
"Pervert!" Eva said after ending the call.
The next day, at Bryce's apartment, Angela woke up to the sound of her alarm. She felt dizzy again and even vomited.
"What is wrong with me?" Angela questioned herself after emptying her gut, which was just filled with water, into the toilet bowl.
She entered the shower and took a shower. She returned to the bedroom feeling that whatever happened the previous day and the day before, which landed her in the hospital, was affecting her. She dressed up, requested an Uber and left for the office on an empty stomach.
Upon arrival at the office, she runs into Diana.
"Hey, Angela," Diana greeted.
"Hi, Diana," Angela greeted.
"How are you? You didn't come to work yesterday," Diana pointed out, smiling.
"Yeah, I took a day off to rest," Angela replied.
"Okay," Diana said. "I am sorry about your interview. I am sure someone was behind it," she pointed out, and Angela's face fell, recalling everything Zora had told her about the interview.
"Let's not talk about that," Angela said.
Diana nodded and pulled the same drink from last time out of her bag.
"I brought you some of the drink," Diana said happily, offering Angela the drink.
Angela wanted to reject it, but looking at the smile plastered on Diana's face, she felt rejecting Diana's gift would be rude.
"Thank you," Angela said and accepted the drink.
"I will see you around," Diana said and left.
Angela got Bryce's coffee and left for the eighth floor. She went to her office after placing the coffee on his table.
Inside her office, she opened the drink, but the flavour of the drink made her feel nauseous.
"Eui," Angela said and made a face. "What is wrong with me?" she asked herself.
She covered the drink and pushed it to the side. She decided to focus on her work. Her phone rang, and she checked the caller ID. It was a strange number. She frowned but answered anyway.
"Hello, you don't know me, but I know you. I have information about your parents' death that would interest you," Angela heard the voice of a man say to her on the phone, and the colour drained out of her immediately.
