Chapter 60 Press Conference - Part 2
"Okay, concerning our other plan, I will get the man to do us the favour," Eva said. "But how do we get Angela to walk on her two legs to the man's house? You know she doesn't know the man, and there is no way she would go there without a good reason," she pointed out.
"Did the man not offer to help?" Susan asked, and Eva frowned, not sure what Susan meant by her question.
She had thought Susan would come up with a plan to lure Angela to the man's apartment.
"Yes, he did, but at a cost," Eva replied.
"Good. And the price is Angela, right?" Susan said, and Eva just nodded. "So he should find a way to pick up his reward. You get ready to get me pictures," she added.
"Meaning I have to go back to the estates," Eva said, wondering how she was going to get back into the estates without involving the man.
While Eva and Susan plotted against Angela, who was still in Bryce's apartment, Bryce was getting ready for the press conference. It was the first press conference he was involved in. The company had held a lot of press conferences in the past, but Bryce never got involved in any. He left them for Britney and his team to handle. This was also their first press conference organised to manage a scandal, unlike the past conferences. Despite these reasons, Britney was surprised Bryce was getting involved with this one, and she wondered why. She went to see Bernard in his office to see what she could get concerning the matter.
Bernard was in his office working on some documents when his concentration was interrupted by a knock on the door.
"Come in," Bernard responded in his deep voice, with his gaze focused on the door.
The door was slowly pushed in, and Britney walked in. She closed the door behind her and walked towards Bernard's desk while Bernard kept his gaze focused on her, wondering what she needed.
"Are you coming to the press conference?" Britney asked, standing in front of Bernard's desk with her hand resting on the backrest of the chair placed in front of Bernard's desk.
"No," Bernard replied and relaxed in his seat, still staring at Britney, whose face carried no expression. "Why do you ask?" he asked with a frown.
"Well, the president is coming for this press conference, and I wondered if you are coming too," Britney explained, and Bernard smiled.
"Britney, what areyou putting together in that head of yours?" Bernard asked, still smiling.
"I am not putting anything together. I just want to know who else from the company is coming to the press conference, if our president is coming," Britney explained.
"Britney, you do forget, this press conference is to address a scandal," Bernard pointed out. "This is the first time the company has been hit with a scandal. It makes sense the president wants to get involved," he added.
"So it's Angela getting terminated?" Britney asked.
"You know I don't make such a decision," Bernard replied
"You are head of the disciplinary committee. You must know something," Britney pointed out.
"Britney, I don't know. You can ask the president yourself if you are eager to know," Bernard replied, getting irritated by Britney's questions.
Britney turned around and exited Bernard's office without another word. Bernard went back to working on his documents. Britney, on the other hand, went to finish up the organisation of the press conference, forming her thoughts about Angela after engaging Bernard.
It was soon time for the conference, and Bryce, together with Britney and her team, arrived at the location for the press conference. Several press members were present, including the one Susan had spoken with earlier and had sent a question to be asked during the press conference.
Bryce stood behind the podium on a stage inside a small hall where the press members were all gathered with their equipment.
"You all witnessed the live interview of my secretary and the manager of Don Entertainment Industry together with some cast from the new movie, which was supposed to be a premiere," Bryce began speaking from his mind, the explanation he had put together, ignoring what Britney had drafted for him.
"Yes, my secretary may have said inappropriate things on the show, but she is an adult, and there is no crime talking about the support of her husband in her achievement, even if that wasn't the expected answer," Bryce said, and Britney frowned realizing Bryce was not reading the document she had given him.
"The images that were shown on the screen, however, are a major concern which we need to address. And we are running an investigation into that. We pulled down all news that spread concerning the incident because we didn't want any misunderstanding among our audience. We will, however, share a detailed report once we are done with our investigation," Bryce added. "There is not much to say for now. We will, however, share a detailed report after the investigation," he concluded and opened the floor for questions.
"Thank you, Mr Moore, for clearing this up, but I still have a question," one reporter began. "Was the man seen on the screen with your secretary the supposed husband? And why will she put something of that nature on public display?" he added.
"As you have rightly asked, why would she put something so private on public display? This tells you that this was planned and that is what we intend to investigate," Bryce replied, boiling inside at the mention of Angela with another man, but he kept himself composed.
"Mr Moore, my last question. Is the man in the image your secretary's supposed husband?" the reporter asked, and Bryce's face darkened.
He was Angela's husband, even if he had kept it a secret from everyone. So hearing the reporter address another as Angela's husband infuriated him, but he kept himself calm and composed to answer the question.
"As I said earlier, we are investigating the incident, and we will share a detailed report once we are done," Bryce replied.
"Mr Moore, I have just one question," came another reporter.
This was the reporter Susan had spoken with. She looked at the question Susan had sent her. It looked harmless, and she decided to ask.
"Do you go all out to defend your employees when something happens, or are you just defending your secretary because she works directly with you?" she asked, and Bryce just stared at her.
He had never stood up for any employee. This was a tricky question; no matter how he answered it, people would read meaning into it. Bryce stood there for a while thinking of the best way to answer the question.
Back at Eva's apartment, Susan and Eva watched the conference and smiled.
"If he says he defends his employees, that is a lie, and that would start a rumour in the company. If he says he was defending his secretary, he would start a rumour among the people of the city. Either way, he would start a rumour which would imply he is banging the secretary," Susan said and laughed.
Back at the conference, Bryce was still behind the podium, and the room was pin-dropped silence.
