Chapter 189 Death is a Reward - Part 1
"Take the device off Zora's phone once this is over. I will be right back," Martin said to Bernard and exited the office after Bernard had acknowledged.
Martin left Bernard's office but didn't go up to Bryce's office. He walked toward Zora's office and opened the door without knocking. As he had suspected, Zora was not in her office. He already knew she was looking for the company's document. He left the place and walked towards the elevator. As soon as the elevator door opened and he stepped inside, Elorm took a peek at the hallway. He heard the footsteps in the hallway, and next was Zora's office door opening, which was the office next to his. This is why he came out to see who it was once he heard the elevator door open. He caught sight of Martin's back before he entered the elevator.
"Hmm, if I want, I can take Zora away from you, and you will not stand a chance. I know her better than you, but that is not my motive now. It's a shame, you will all go six feet under soon," Elorm thought and went back into his office, closing the door behind him.
The elevator door opened into the garage, and Martin stepped out of it. He walked towards the car and sat inside. He pulled out his phone and dialled a number.
"Yes, you are on," Martin said and ended the call.
It was a few minutes to 5 p.m. He put the car into motion and left the company premises. Meanwhile, upstairs, Zora had searched everywhere accessible, and she couldn't find the company documents.
"Maybe it's at home," Zora thought and left the office for hers.
As soon as she sat down, there was a knock on her door.
"Yes, come in," Zora responded, and Elorm walked in.
"It's 5 p.m.," Elorm announced, and Zora confirmed the time on her wristwatch.
"Okay, that will be all for today. You can go home. I will be going to the hospital to visit Angela," Zora said.
"Okay, I will see you tomorrow," Elorm said and exited Zora's office.
Zora packed her stuff into her bag and also left the office. She didn't know Martin had already left, but she didn't bother to look for him. She requested an Uber to the hospital. The Uber arrived, and she sat in it heading for the hospital.
At the hospital, Zora paid the Uber driver and went inside the hospital. She walked straight to the elevator after greeting the hospital night receptionist. She soon ended up on the floor where Bryce and Angela were. She walked towards the ward and gently knocked before pushing the door open to enter.
"Good evening," Zora greeted as she walked in away from the door.
"Good evening," Bryce responded.
"Hi, Zora," Angela called out to her.
"How are you doing?" Zora asked as she walked toward Angela's bed.
Angela appeared to be recovering very well, but Bryce looked too strong for someone who had a kidney removed. Zora brushed it off with the excuse that the human body is complex and Bryce is a healthy man who takes good care of his body, from what she had seen.
"I am getting better," Angela replied, and Zora smiled.
Bryce sat on the bed with his eyes glued to his phone screen as his fingers danced on the keypad. Zora continued to engage Angela in a conversation until Martin knocked and walked into the ward.
"Good evening, boss, ma'am," Martin greeted.
Martin drew closer to Bryce after he was done greeting everyone. He stood close to the bed and engaged Bryce in a conversation.
"Everything was done as requested. I helped Bernard with the security system," Martin said, and Bryce smiled.
"Good, keep me updated on everything," Bryce said to Martin.
"Yes, boss," Martin replied and exited the ward.
Zora stayed with Angela for a while before leaving for home. Again, she requested an Uber and headed for the apartment. Martin was nowhere to be found. She arrived at the apartment and paid the Uber driver. She went into the apartment. She met one of the servants.
"Is Martin home?" Zora asked.
"No ma'am," the servant replied, and Zora replied with a hmmm.
She headed for the staircase and ascended to the bedroom floor. She walked towards her bedroom and stared briefly at Martin's closed door before entering her bedroom. She dropped her bag and picked up the file that Bryce had brought to her when he informed her about her position as HR at Diamond Corporation. She headed out of her room and was soon down the staircase. She boldly walked towards Bryce's office carrying the file.
Inside Bryce's office, she started looking for the company documents. After what seemed like forever, she found the document inside a plastic file bag inside a drawer under the centre table. She sat on the couch inside Bryce's office and started going through it. She checked for the owner and saw Bryce's name printed on the document.
"At least I am safe. The business belongs to Bryce," Zora whispered on her lips, beaming with joy. "Let me take my time and go through this thing," she thought and placed the plastic file bag into her paper file and exited the study.
She boldly walked towards the staircase and ascended to the bedroom floor. In the hallway, she hurried her steps to her bedroom and quickly entered, closing the door behind her and locking it up.
She sat behind her desk and went through the document. She fetched her phone and called Elorm.
"I found the company document. The company belongs to Bryce," Zora said on the call.
"That is great. At least you know your job is secured," Elorm replied "I guess you are at home?" he asked.
"Yes, just sitting behind my study desk and going through the company documents," Zora replied.
"Boring," Elorm said. "I am going to the club. Wanna tag along?" he asked.
"No," Zora replied and was about to explain, but Elorm interrupted.
"Is it because of your new boyfriend?" Elorm asked. "Why? He doesn't like it when you go out having fun with your friends?" he asked.
"No," Zora replied and tried to explain, but Elorm interrupted her again.
"I know you love the club. You need a destressed environment with all that is happening around you." Elorm said. "Send me your address, and I will pick you up," he added.
"You are not taking no for an answer?" Zora asked.
"I am not," Elorm replied, and Zora smiled.
"Okay," Zora replied and ended the call.
