Chapter 136 Who is the Lady?
"I must live for my child," Angela thought as the life slowly left her body.
With this thought in mind, she stopped struggling despite the pain she was going through. The lady loosened her grip, seeing that Angela was no longer moving. Angela thought that was it; she was going to let her go, but to her surprise, the lady grabbed her neck again and began to squeeze. Angela was getting weak, and her eyes felt like they were going to pop out of their socket but she kept thinking about the baby growing inside her belly and kept fighting to stay alive. She remained calm, hoping the lady would believe she was dead and let go.
The other prisoners were still making noise in their cells as they watched what the lady was doing to Angela.
The prison warden was inside his office when he heard a knock.
"Come in," the prison warden said.
Four tall men strode in, all wearing black suits. The warden raised his head to stare at the men as they walked into his office. Two went towards the left, and two went towards his right. There was a fifty-year-old man who walked in expensively dressed, wearing a mask. He took off the mask and sat down in front of the warden.
"How may I be of help?" the warden asked, wondering what was happening.
"I am here for my wife. She has been proven innocent," Bryce said.
One of the guards moved forward and dropped a file on the warden's desk after Bryce had spoken.
"If a person is declared innocent, this is not how we handle it. An officer...," the warden began, and Bryce raised his hand.
Warden went silent, surprised by what was happening before him. He was about to speak again when Bryce leaned forward, making the warden lean back. He was not sure why he felt so terrified by the presence of the five men. He shifted his gaze to the four men standing behind Bryce. They looked like people you wouldn't want to mess with.
"Here is the order for release issued by the court. So go in there and do the needful," Bryce said, and the warden picked up the file.
He went through it, and it was indeed an order for the release of Ms Angela Anderson. It was from the court. He picked up his phone receiver and called someone.
"Come to my office now," the warden said, and in less than a minute, the door to the warden's office flew open.
"Sir," a lady walked in.
"Go to the prison and get Ms Angela Anderson. Bring her to my office and do the processing for her release," the warden said. "Take this along," he added.
"Yes, sir," the lady said and accepted the file from the warden's hand before exiting the office.
"She would be here soon," the warden said, and Bryce just stared at him with a cold expression.
Back inside the prison, the lady has finally let go of Angela. The prisoner officer got to the gate and was greeted by the noise coming from the prison. She opened the gate and entered.
"She killed her," one prisoner shouted, and the rest of the prisoners joined in agreement.
The officer hurried her steps to Angela's cell and found her lying on the floor motionless, with a lady lying next to her in a pool of blood. She quickly opened the cell and checked on Angela. She pressed on her communication device.
"Kindly get someone down here now. I have two motionless bodies in one of the cells," she reported.
Angela and the lady were soon carried out of the cell and taken to the infirmary. News was quickly sent to the warden about Angela's condition and the condition of the lady in the cell with her on his phone. The warden excused himself and stepped out, leaving Bryce and his men inside his office.
"Who is that lady and how did she get into Angela's cell?" the warden asked through gritted teeth.
"I am not sure, sir, but we are looking into it," the officer replied. "The prisoners are all claiming an officer brought her in and placed her in Angela's cell," she added.
"Have you checked the security cameras?" the warden asked.
"Yes, sir," the officer replied. "They were all off," she added.
"Gather all the officers and send them to the place. Have the prisoners ID the said officer," the warden said. "Find whoever did that now," he said, half yelling.
"Mr Warden, where is my wife?" Bryce asked from behind the warden.
"Mr Moore," the warden began. "There has been an accident. Ms Angela was just rushed to the hospital," he reported, and Bryce frowned.
"What happened? What kind of accident?" Bryce asked.
"We are looking into it," the warden said, not ready to share the details with Bryce. "I would take you to your wife now," he added, trying to change the subject.
"If anything happens to my wife, I will make sure you are fired from your position, " Bryce threatened, and the warden just stared at Bryce, wondering if Angela was still alive or dead.
"Sir, the lady found in the cell with Ms Angela slit her throat after choking the life out of Angela," one officer reported, and the warden clenched his teeth.
"Choking the life out of Angela?" Bryce questioned. "Where is she?" he asked through gritted teeth.
"At the hospital," the warden replied.
"Which hospital?" Bryce questioned.
"The prison hospital," the warden replied.
"Take me there now," Bryce said. "I am a Davis, and I meant my word," he added.
Bryce prayed silently in his heart that Angela was okay as they walked towards the prison hospital. Joining the Davis family, he discovered a lot of horrible things that happened around him that he didn't know about. The man and the woman he thought were his parents were not. The lady he employed as the head of his servants was his mother, and the man he thought was his uncle was his father. Angela was innocent of the crime she was accused of. What else around him is a lie?
They walked into the hospital and met a doctor.
"How is Ms Angela?" the warden asked, and the doctors stared at Bryce and the four men with him.
"Doctor?" Bryce said.
"She is fine and out of danger. She was very lucky to have passed out. The person who wanted to harm her may have taken it that she was dead," the doctors said.
"And the baby?" Bryce asked.
"The baby is fine," the doctor said.
"And what about that lady?" the warden asked.
"She is in the morgue. You can carry out your investigation," the doctor replied.
"Where is Ms Angela?" Bryce asked, and the doctor asked a nurse to show Bryce to Angela's ward.
Bryce left quickly with his men to see Angela.
"Is he allowed to match in here with guards looking like that?" the doctor whispered to the warden.
"Those are the Davis family guards. Unless you have a good reason, you can't stop them from guarding a member of their family," the warden replied.
"But aren't they mafias dealing in drugs and illegal stuff?" the doctor whispered to the warden.
"As it stands, we don't have any evidence to support that claim. The law can only move once they have proof," the warden said.
"Still, you can't let them walk around the hospital like that. What if they harm someone?" the doctor asked.
"I say, make sure your people do not offend them. They will not put themselves in danger by touching innocent people. Those people are smart," the warden said and walked away.
Inside the ward, Bryce pulled the seat and sat on it, staring at Angela's face. She had her eyes closed and looked a little pale. It appears she was not well taken care of inside the prison. The bruises sustained from the lady squeezing her neck were left on her neck.
"I am sorry, Angela. I am sorry for losing my trust in you. I hope you forgive me when you wake up," Bryce said and planted a kiss on Angela's forehead.
Back at the family house, Devon was pacing up and down his study after returning from the central police station.
"Calm down, father, everything will work out, you will see," Susan tried to calm him down, having plans of her own in her mind.
"I can't let Bryce win by having it all. Angela has to go. This will break him and make him weak," Devon said.
"And she would die. Just wait for news of her death," Susan assured, and Devon's phone rang.
"Speak," Devon said after answering the call, seeing it was Mark calling.
"Sir, the plan failed. Angela is still alive, but the person we sent to prison took her own life. The person who posed as the officer is safely out of their premises, leaving no evidence behind," Mark reported.
"It's a good thing that the lady is dead and the person who posed as the officer is out of the picture. I need you to send another person. Make sure Angela does not live," Devon ordered.
"Yes, sir," Mark replied.
"Do you have Josephine now?" Devon asked.
Back at the hospital, Bryce's phone rang, and he answered.
"Speak," Bryce said.
"Sir, we have a problem. Josephine Brown is missing," Martin reported, and Bryce frowned.
