Chapter 134 Eva's Wedding Disaster - Part 3
Bryce looked in the direction of Matilda as she walked towards him.
"I will have my PA send the documents over. You go through them, and if you are okay with my offer, we can sign a deal," the man said.
"Sounds good," Bryce replied, and they shook hands.
"Ah, Mr Williams, nice for you to grace this occasion with your presence," Matilda said and offered her hand to the man Bryce was chatting with earlier.
"Tilly, Tilly, still young and beautiful," Mr Williams said flirtatiously and planted a kiss on the back of Matilda's hand.
"Hmm, still haven't changed," Matilda said, smiling. "I see you have already met my grandson," she quickly added, resting her hand on Bryce's shoulder.
"Yes, I must say he is a prodigy," Mr Williams said to Matilda, as if Bryce was not standing there with them.
"Well, I know you came in late. He is our new Don," Matilda informed him and shifted her gaze to Bryce.
"Mr Moore, welcome to the family," Mr Williams said, offering Bryce a handshake.
"Thank you," Bryce appreciated, accepting the handshake from Mr Williams.
"Hello, Mrs Davis," a female voice was heard from behind.
The trio turned and came face to face with a woman and her daughter.
"It's an honour to meet the new Don of the Davis family," the woman said and offered her hand to Bryce.
Bryce just stared at the woman with a frown. There was something about the woman that put him off immediately. Standing next to her was a young girl. Who looks younger than him?
"Mr Moore, this is Madam Anastasia and her daughter Emily. They are from the Miller family," Matilda introduced.
"Nice to meet you," Bryce said without accepting the handshake.
"A chip of the old block," Anastasia said with a smile before shifting her gaze from Bryce to Matilda. "I will call you," she said and shifted her gaze back to Bryce. "Once again, nice to meet you," she said with a smile before walking away with her daughter trailing behind her.
"Emily has grown into a beautiful woman. What do you think, Bryce?" Mr Williams asked, grabbing for himself a glass of wine from a waiter who got closer with a tray of drinks.
"I am already married," Bryce said.
"He means divorce," Matilda quickly chipped in, and Bryce frowned.
"Married or divorced?" Mr Williams asked with a frown, staring at Bryce and Matilda.
"Divorced," Bryce said after staring at Matilda's face for a while. "It's been only a week since I divorced," he added.
"I'm sorry to hear that, but now that you're part of the family, we will fix that," Mr Williams said and excused himself.
"Mrs Davis, I made myself very clear. I am not doing arranged marriage," Bryce said to Matilda once Mr Williams had left.
"Don't worry about that. There will be no such thing," Matilda assured him.
"So what was that about?" Bryce questioned.
"Mr Williams is one unpredictable man to deal with. One thing you should know about him is that he likes to be in charge and have an advantage. Your being divorced gives him an advantage. I will explain later. And again, Mrs Miller would come at you hard with her daughter, some old score to settle. Just be careful," Matilda said, and Bryce frowned.
"I am on your side. I know them better, and I will help you," Matilda added.
Bryce knew he needed to understand what he had gotten himself into better. He was only aware that the Davis family was a mafia. They have their underground business aside from the legit ones people knew about. He had not been exposed to the whole family business yet.
At Diamond Corporation, Devon was back in the office with Susan after informing the employees he was taking over, still updating himself with the company business so he could manage it until he found someone or found a way to bring Bryce back.
The day slowly flew past, while Devon tried to bring himself up to speed on Diamond Corporation, and Bryce was learning about the Davis family business with the help of Matilda.
Saturday Morning, Eva found herself in a salon getting ready for her wedding. Bernard was also getting ready to move to the chapel for a wedding he didn't want. Peter was with him while he got ready.
"I know you don't love Eva. So why don't you just tell her and back out?" Peter asked.
"I can't," Bernard said, sounding very down.
"So you are going to condemn yourself to a life of unhappiness because of one sex?" Peter screamed the words out.
"She was a virgin," Bernard said.
"How do you figure?" Peter asked through gritted teeth. "You were drugged, men," he pointed out.
"I saw the blood stain," Bernard said sadly, and Peter shook his head in disbelief.
"Is this what this is all about?" Peter questioned. "You are marrying her because you want to take responsibility for breaking her virginity?" he asked, and Bernard was silent.
"How does a married woman remain a virgin?" Peter asked, and Bernard shifted his gaze to him. "Yes. Eva was once married," he repeated. "That girl fooled you, and you just fell for it," he said. "Look, it's not too late. You can back out of the wedding now," he suggested.
"I am not marrying her because of that. I am marrying her because I have to," Bernard said and fixed his tie.
"Bernard, who threatened you and with what?" Peter asked.
"Nobody did," Bernard replied and started walking towards the door.
Peter followed him, and soon they were both in a car heading for the chapel.
"Men, you still have time to back out. You don't have to do this," Peter tried to convince Bernard, but he remained silent, staring at the closed window screen.
They soon arrived at the chapel, and they went inside to wait for the bride. Eva's car arrived, and her presence was quickly announced. Bernard stood at the altar as Eva walked down the aisle. She looked amazing. She soon made it to the altar and stood next to Bernard as they faced the priest. Eva took a glance at the first pew and saw Susan and Devon sitting there. She smiled and stared at Bernard's side profile briefly before facing the priest.
"Beloved, we are gathered here today to witness the union of Ms Eva and Mr Bernard in holy matrimony," the priest began.
"Stop," a male voice was heard from behind, and everyone turned in the direction of the voice.
Four of Davis's bodyguards, together with the police, strode in.
"We are sorry to interrupt this ceremony, but I am here with a warrant to make an arrest," the officer said and removed the handcuffs.
The guest gasped, hearing what the officer had just said. The officer walked towards the altar.
"Ms Eva, you are under arrest for the murder of Mrs Patience Moore and Elena Moore. You have the right to remain silent," the officer began as he put the cuffs on Eva, but Mr Moore stood up.
The guest gasped again.
"I beg your pardon. The murderer has already been convicted and sent to jail," Mr Moore said, standing up to his feet.
Susan stood up too, staring angrily at the officer.
"I have a warrant for her arrest as the new evidence pointed to her," the officer said, handing the warrant to Devon.
Bernard stood on the side silently while Peter smiled within, not because Eva was getting arrested but because Bernard was going to be free.
"Mr Moore, please help me. I didn't do anything," Eva cried, alternating her gaze between Devon and Susan.
Mr Moore looked at the warrant, handed to him by one of the Davis guards.
"Listen, Eva, you go with the officer. I will have this sorted out," Devon said to Eva as the officer dragged her away.
"I didn't do it," Eva cried.
Devon and Susan followed suit, and the people were left murmuring among themselves.
"This will make the headlines tomorrow," Devon said angrily as he exited the chapel with Susan trailing behind her.
Susan was terrified. If Eva has been arrested, it will all connect to her soon. She thought of what to do as she followed Devon out of the chapel.
