Chapter 352 Nothing Left To Discuss
Chapter 352 Nothing Left To Discuss
Rebecca instinctively stepped backward, her heart pounding violently against her ribs.
"What secrets and how long have you both been in cohorts?" she asked even though her whole body was trembling now.
Michael laughed. Just then he opened his mouth to speak, Adrian spoke.
"Michael, we can talk about this," Adrian said, trying desperately to keep his voice calm. The last thing he wanted was for Rebecca to realize he had been lying right from when he took the bullet for her.
Michael's expression hardened.
"Talk about what?" he asked angrily, he took a step forward, and Rebecca instinctively took one backward.
"You want me to keep quiet and not expose when you have betrayed me? The plan was simple, Adrian," Michael continued, his voice becoming colder with every word.
Adrian tried to say something, but Michael's eyes briefly moved toward Rebecca before returning to him.
"We were supposed to kidnap Rebecca and Derek, keep them somewhere no one would find them, and then kill them when everything was settled, that was the fucking plan."
Rebecca's heart dropped. She stared at Adrian in horror, unable to believe what she was hearing.
Michael oblivious to whatever tremor was going on inside Rebecca continued, his voice filled with anger and disgust.
"That was the agreement, but you allowed your fucking feelings to get in the way."
Adrian's jaw tightened.
"I told you, things changed," he replied.
"Things didn't change," Michael snapped. "You changed." He pointed toward Rebecca before he continued.
"You became obsessed with her, and now you've forgotten the entire reason we started this."
Rebecca stared at Adrian, her eyes filling with tears as the truth began sinking into her mind.
"You were working with him to kill me and Derek?" she whispered.
She had thought the name she had heard the previous night was simply an illusion, perhaps her exhausted mind playing tricks on her, but hearing Michael openly admit that Adrian had been working with him to kill her was far more devastating than she had expected.
Adrian looked at her, guilt briefly flashing across his face.
"Rebecca..." he tried to explain.
"You were working with Michael to kill me?" she asked again, wanting Adrian to admit or refute the accusation himself.
Adrian did not answer immediately, causing Michael to let out a mocking laugh, clearly enjoying the pain and confusion unfolding before him.
"Of course he was," Michael replied, his tone dripping with satisfaction.
Adrian had wanted to hold his grounded but seeing that Michael had found out where he was and would probably not leave here willingly without Rebecca, he knew he needed to use another approach.
"We can settle this like gentlemen, Michael," Adrian said hurriedly, turning back toward him. "I can still fix this."
"How?" Michael asked, raising an eyebrow. "Just how do you plan on rectifying this mistake?"
"I can get Derek back," Adrian said quickly. "I'll find him and bring him back. You can do whatever you want with him once I do. He's the main reason your daughter is in prison, and as for Rebecca, I'll make sure she never troubles you again. I'll marry her and keep her under control, she won't trouble you. You can have her father's company, everything, and she wouldn't oppose you. Just leave her to me."
Rebecca's eyes widened as soon as Adrian finished speaking.
Her eyes filled with tears, but unlike the previous days, there was something else in them now, hope. Derek was alive, he had been rescued, somewhere outside this place, her husband was alive and probably searching for her, and for the first time since she had been kidnapped, Rebecca knew that she had not been completely forgotten. Very soon, she would be rescued too.
Michael's expression suddenly became bitter as he looked at Adrian.
"I regret ever approaching you," he muttered, his voice filled with disgust. "I should have known better than to trust an obsessed man with something that required discipline."
Adrian's face hardened.
"You don't have to do this," he said, trying once again to reason with him but Michael slowly shook his head.
"I do," he replied coldly. "Everything started with Rebecca, and everything ends with her death." As he spoke, he reached into his jacket and slowly pulled out a gun, he raised the weapon and aimed it directly at Adrian's chest.
The moment the weapon appeared, Rebecca froze while Adrian's men immediately reacted, several of them reached beneath their clothes and pulled out their own weapons.
Michael's men also responded instantly as more men emerged from the adjoining rooms and hallways, weapons already drawn, surrounding Adrian's people.
Rebecca's breathing became shallow as she looked around the room and realized the terrible difference in numbers. They were outnumbered, Adrian's men were surrounded.
Adrian looked around the room also, his eyes moving rapidly from one armed man to another, and he finally realized that the situation had changed completely.
"Michael," he warned.
"Move out of the way, Adrian," Michael said in a low, deadly voice but Adrian remained where he was.
"Step away from Rebecca right now," Michael continued, his voice becoming colder. "I am not leaving here without taking her with me or putting a bullet through her head, so be wise and get out of my way."
Adrian moved even closer to Rebecca, keeping himself directly between her and Michael.
"I can't let you have her, Michael," he said firmly. "You'll have to go through me first."
Michael stared at him for several seconds, his expression becoming increasingly cold, before finally letting out a quiet sigh.
"I was hoping you would make this easy."
One of Adrian's men suddenly raised his weapon, but before he could fire, several gunshots erupted through the room.
The sound was deafening. Rebecca screamed and instinctively covered her ears as chaos exploded around her.
Adrian's men were caught completely off guard, and one after another, they fell beneath the barrage of gunfire from Michael's men, their bodies hitting the floor as the room descended into complete panic.
The sound of gunshots continued to echo through the enormous house, mixing with the screams and shouts of the men as smoke began filling the air.
Within seconds, all of Adrian's guards had fallen to the floor, leaving Adrian and Rebecca completely alone and stranded in the middle of the room.
The smell of smoke and gunpowder filled the air, burning Rebecca's nostrils as she stood frozen behind Adrian, her entire body trembling uncontrollably.
Michael slowly stepped over the bodies scattered across the floor, his gun still raised steadily as he stared directly at Adrian.
"I am going to tell you one last time, Adrian," Michael growled, his finger tightening against the trigger. "Get the hell out of my way."
Adrian swallowed hard and for the first time, there was genuine fear in his eyes but despite the fear running through him, he did not move an inch instead, he spread his arms wider, keeping Rebecca completely hidden behind him.
"No," he breathed.
Michael stared at him for several long seconds before he let out a sigh.
"Then I suppose there's nothing left to discuss," he replied resignedly.
Rebecca's eyes widened in terror as she realized what was about to happen.
"Adrian..." she screamed as Michael pulled the trigger.
