Chapter 346 Monsters

Chapter 346 Monsters
His voice sounded casual, as if he was talking about the weather and not about taking another person's life, her husband's life.

Everything inside Rebecca seemed to stop when she heard his threat, her face went pale while her fingers tightened around the phone.

"What did you say?" she asked, her voice hard and filled with anger.

"I said if you refuse to eat, Derek will pay the price," he said, and this time, the tears that had been gathering in Rebecca's eyes finally streamed down her face.

"No," she whispered, shaking her head desperately. "No, you wouldn't."

"I wouldn't advise you to test me," the man replied cruelly.

"What have you done to him?" Rebecca cried, her voice breaking. "Where is he? What did you do to my husband? Is he hurt? Is he alive?"

The man on the other end remained silent.

"Answer me," Rebecca screamed. "What have you done to Derek?"

"You should be more careful about what you choose to do next, or else..." he said instead intentionally leaving his sentence incomplete.

Rebecca's tears began falling freely now.

"Please," she begged, her anger slowly giving way to desperation. "Please, don't hurt him. Whatever you want from me, whatever this is about, leave him out of it."

The man did not answer immediately and when he finally did, he said quietly,
"The next time I call and I'm told that you haven't eaten, the next time you hear about Derek, it will be because I'm telling you that he's dead." After saying that, he ended the call, but Rebecca didn't know he had ended it, just hearing how the man had calmly mentioned shooting Derek made her heart shatter.

"Don't you dare," she screamed. "Don't you dare touch my husband. If you hurt him, I swear to God, I will find you, and I will make you pay for everything you've done to me and my family. I don't care who you are or how powerful you think you are, if you hurt Derek, I will hunt you down and kill you myself."

When she heard no response from the other side, she pulled the phone away from her ear and stared at the screen, and that was when she noticed he had already ended the call. She slowly looked up at the man standing in front of her, and his hand was already outstretched for his phone.

"Give me the phone," he said calmly, as if he hadn't heard her conversation with his boss, as if he hadn't heard his boss threaten her, his calmness made Rebecca angry.

"What did you do to him?" she demanded again, her voice shaking. "Tell me what you did to my husband."

The man said nothing, he simply reached for the phone, and seeing that he wasn't saying anything, Rebecca reluctantly handed it back to him.

He took it and slipped it into his pocket, and before Rebecca could ask another question, the door suddenly opened.

The same young woman who had brought her food earlier stepped inside, carrying another tray.

Rebecca immediately looked at her, but the young lady, just like earlier, said nothing, she just closed the door behind her and began walking towards the bed. When she got there, she placed the tray on it, then bent down and picked up the previous tray of food that Rebecca had left untouched.

After standing up with the tray, she looked at the food for a moment before turning her attention briefly toward Rebecca, and just like before, there was still no expression on her face, no words, just silence.

After staring at Rebecca for a few more seconds, she simply walked past them and left the room, closing and locking the door behind her.

Rebecca stared at the door for several seconds before turning back toward the man, who was already looking at her.

"Eat," he said, nodding toward the tray of food.

She shook her head, tears still running down her cheeks.
"I don't want to," she mumbled, she hated how broken she sounded.

"You heard what my boss said, and you also know what will happen if you continue refusing," he reminded her coldly.

Rebecca's lips trembled as more tears streamed down her face.

"You people are monsters," she muttered through her tears.

The man said nothing, instead, he reached out and grabbed her arm, pushing her toward the bed.

Rebecca stumbled and caught herself against the bed.
"Don't ever touch me," she shouted angrily, after she had sat down on the bed.

"Then stop behaving like a child and eat," he replied harshly.

Rebecca turned toward him, tears streaming down her face.

"I hate you," she muttered, her tone laced with hatred and anger.

The man didn't respond, he simply pointed toward the tray.

"Eat."

Rebecca looked at the food, her stomach twisting painfully with hunger, but her heart was filled with fear and anger.

She thought about Derek, she thought about their child, and then she thought about the threat that had just been made against the man she loved.

Finally, with trembling hands, she picked up the food, she hated that she had to do it, hated that they had found a way to control her, but if eating was the only way to keep Derek alive, then she would force herself to eat every bite.

She lifted the spoon to her mouth, tears falling silently down her cheeks as she swallowed, she was not eating because she trusted them, she was not eating because she had forgiven them.

She was eating because somewhere out there, Derek was still the person she loved most in the world, and she could not take the risk of losing him.
