Chapter 344 Damsel In Distress
Chapter 344 Damsel In Distress
Rebecca was still lying beneath the duvet when the door suddenly opened later that morning, the sound immediately made her sit upright, her heart jumping into her throat as she turned toward the entrance, her body tensing in fear and anticipation because she had no idea who was coming this time, and for a brief moment, she expected to see one of the men who had kidnapped her, perhaps the person in charge, or the person who had ordered her to be brought to this strange place, but when the door opened fully, her eyes widened slightly when she saw that it was not a man at all, but a young woman who looked to be not less than twenty years old, and she was carrying a tray of food in both hands.
The young woman stepped into the room without saying a word, her expression completely blank as though she had been instructed not to speak to Rebecca, and after entering, she quietly turned around, balanced the tray on one hand, and locked the door behind her before walking toward the bed, her movements calm and almost emotionless, which only made Rebecca more uncomfortable because there was something unsettling about the silence surrounding her.
But despite her fear and everything else, she immediately pushed the duvet away and sat up properly, her eyes following the young woman as she approached.
"Where am I?" she asked quickly, her voice carrying a mixture of fear and desperation. "Please, I need you to tell me where I am because I don't understand what is happening to me or why I've been brought here."
The young woman did not answer, she simply continued walking toward the bed as though she had not heard her.
Rebecca frowned and slowly stood up, her eyes fixed on the tray of food the woman was carrying.
"Please, don't ignore me," she pleaded, taking a few careful steps toward her. "I know you can hear me, so please just tell me something, anything, because I have been locked inside this room for hours and nobody has explained anything to me."
Still, the woman remained silent. She reached the bed, placed the tray carefully on top of it, and immediately turned around as though her only purpose for entering the room had been to deliver the food.
Rebecca's heart sank.
"Wait," she called quickly, moving after her. "I want to see whoever is in charge. Please, I need to speak with the person who brought me here."
The young woman continued walking toward the door.
"Please," Rebecca repeated, her voice becoming more desperate. "If you know who brought me here, please take me to them because I need to know what is happening, and I need to know if my husband is okay."
The woman stopped for a brief moment but still did not turn around, and seeing that she had finally gotten her attention, Rebecca hurried toward her and gently grabbed her hand before she could reach the door.
"Please, help me," she begged, her fingers tightening around the woman's wrist as tears began forming in her eyes. "I'm begging you, please don't leave me here without telling me anything. I don't know where I am, I don't know what these people want from me, and I don't even know if my husband is alive, so please, if you know anything at all, just help me."
For the first time, the young woman looked directly at her, there was something unreadable in her eyes, something that made Rebecca wonder if perhaps she felt sorry for her, but before Rebecca could say anything else, the woman gently but firmly pulled her hand away from Rebecca's grasp.
Rebecca stared at her helplessly, that was her chance, it might even be her only chance at getting out of here, and she couldn't believe she was about to lose it too.
"Please..." she pleaded desperately, but the woman said nothing. She simply turned toward the door, opened it, stepped outside, and locked it behind her.
Rebecca stood frozen for a few seconds, staring at the closed door as if she could somehow make it open just by looking at it, she stood there for at least ten seconds before the realization that she had been ignored and left alone finally hit her.
"No, wait," she cried, rushing toward the door. "Please, come back. Please, just open the door." She began knocking desperately, her fists hitting the wooden surface repeatedly.
"Please, don't leave me here. I need to talk to someone. Please, come back," she shouted, her voice echoing through the room, but there was no response. She pressed her ear against the door, desperately hoping to hear footsteps on the other side, but there was nothing.
After several minutes of knocking and calling out, her strength slowly disappeared, and her hands dropped to her sides. She stood there for a moment, breathing heavily, before finally turning away from the door with tears still gathering in her eyes.
She walked slowly back toward the bed, her shoulders slumped in defeat, and when her eyes fell on the tray of food sitting there, her stomach suddenly growled loudly.
She had not realized just how hungry she was until that moment, the smell of the food made her stomach twist painfully, and for a few seconds, she simply stared at it. She was hungry, very hungry at that, the last time she had eaten was yesterday afternoon before she had left the house with Derek, but the thought of eating anything that had been brought by the people who had kidnapped her made her hesitate.
What if there was something inside it? What if they wanted to make her weak? What if eating it affected her child in a negative way? The thoughts ran through her mind as she stared at the tray, but after a few seconds, she swallowed hard and looked away.
"No," she whispered to herself, shaking her head slowly. "I don't know these people."
She picked up the tray and placed it carefully on the floor, and instead of eating, she climbed back underneath the duvet and turned away from the food.
She pulled the blanket closer around herself and stared blankly at the wall, trying to figure out what she was supposed to do next. Now that she knew she wasn't alone, she needed to think and figure out a way out of this place.
A few minutes later, the door opened again, and she immediately sat up, her heart pounding as she looked toward the entrance, hoping that this time the person coming inside would finally speak to her.
But it was the same young woman, this time carrying several outfits folded neatly in her arms.
Rebecca stared at her for a moment before quickly getting out of bed again, she needed to try her luck again and hopefully this time around she would be attended to.
"You came back," she said, her voice filled with a mixture of relief and frustration. "Please, don't ignore me again. I need to talk to you."
And just like earlier, the woman said nothing, she simply walked past Rebecca and placed the clothes on a nearby surface.
Rebecca followed her with her eyes.
"Please," she continued, trying to keep her voice calm. "I'm not asking you to do anything dangerous. I just want answers, so please tell me where I am," she pleaded again.
The young woman remained silent, causing Rebecca's frustration to grow.
"Do you understand what I'm saying to you?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly. "I'm begging you, just say something."
Again, there was no response, the woman simply walked toward the bathroom located inside the room and disappeared inside.
Rebecca watched her carefully, wondering what she was doing. A few minutes passed before the woman finally came out.
Her eyes immediately went toward the tray of food sitting untouched on the bed, she stopped when she saw that Rebecca had not eaten anything.
For a moment, her eyes remained on the food, and Rebecca watched her closely, hoping that perhaps this would finally make her speak, but she didn't.
She simply looked at the untouched tray, then looked briefly at Rebecca before turning around and walking back toward the door.
Rebecca's heart sank again when she realized the woman was leaving again without attending to her.
"Wait," she called after her. "Please, don't leave," she said almost brokenly as she slowly followed behind the woman, but the woman continued walking.
"Please, I need to talk to someone," Rebecca pleaded, her voice becoming softer as desperation slowly replaced her anger. "I don't know what's happening to me, and I'm scared."
The woman stopped for a second when she got to the door, but did not turn around. After standing idly for a few seconds, she opened the door again, walked out, and locked it behind her.
Rebecca stared at the door for several seconds after she had left, and for the second time in just a few minutes, she felt completely helpless.
She had tried everything she could, but nothing seemed to be working, she needed to leave here, and if her phone wasn't here, then it all fell on her to save herself and her child. She walked back to the bed and slowly sat down on the edge, her hands resting on her stomach as she stared at the untouched food.
Her stomach growled again, but this time she ignored it. She knew she needed to eat at some point, even if not for herself, but for her child.
And she also needed to understand where she was, she needed to understand who had taken her, she needed to know what had happened to Derek, and more than anything, she needed to know why whoever had brought her here was treating her so strangely.
After sitting quietly for several more minutes, she finally pushed herself up from the bed, she needed to freshen up and change from this dress that she was wearing, she thought as she looked at the dress in disgust. She hoped the lady was the one who had changed her, because she would hate to find out it was one of the men.
She slowly walked toward the bathroom, one hand resting protectively over her stomach as she took each step carefully, after bathing and clearing her head, she would think of ways to leave this place. She didn't plan on being a damsel in distress anymore, she was going to talk to whoever was in charge, whether they liked it or not.
