Chapter 337 A Lead
Chapter 337 A Lead
Ryan's expression became more serious, and even the men working around the table briefly stopped what they were doing and turned their attention toward her.
Mrs. Cole noticed the confusion on everyone's faces, so she quickly continued.
"I have been monitoring him for some time because of his health issues, and because I know that he can become extremely attached to certain people and things."
Amelia looked at her carefully.
"What kind of health issues?" she asked softly, interrupting her. If she could remember clearly, when she had ran her background check on Adrian earlier on, everything had been clean, so clean that it had made her suspicious but at that time she hadn't given it much thought.
Mrs. Cole hesitated briefly before answering.
"Adrian has bipolar disorder, and he also has serious attachment issues," she replied gently, her voice dripping with guilt because, to her, she felt that she had contributed to everything.
The room became even quieter while Mrs. Cole clasped her hands together as she continued.
"When he becomes attached to someone, it can become difficult for him to separate his feelings from reality, and I believe that may have happened with Rebecca."
Ryan's jaw tightened slightly, the more he listened to her, the angrier he became, not at anyone but at himself because when he had seen Adrian at the hospital and noticed how he had seemed to delight in Rebecca's attention, he had realized that something wasn't right, and he should have followed his intuition then, because if he had followed it then and told Derek what he suspected, they might not have been here at the moment, trying to find his friend and his wife.
"What do you mean?" he asked.
Mrs. Cole swallowed slowly before she continued.
"My son became deeply attached to Rebecca, and according to his best friend, Adrian started believing that Rebecca was supposed to be with him, even though she was already married to Derek. I knew about his feelings from the beginning, and I warned him to stay away from her, but I thought he had listened to me. I never imagined that he would actually go through with something like this." Her voice trembled slightly as she paused briefly to compose herself again before she continued.
"His friend eventually told me that Adrian had planned to kidnap Rebecca and force her to marry him."
Amelia covered her mouth in shock.
"Oh my God..."
Mrs. Cole's eyes became wet.
"I came here because I can't find him on my own," she continued. "I don't know where he is, and I don't know exactly what he has done, but I know my son, and I know what he can become when his mind becomes fixed on something."
She looked directly at Ryan.
"I just want him found before he complicates things even more."
For several seconds after she finished speaking, nobody said anything, and the silence in the room felt heavy.
Finally after what felt like forever but was only a few minutes, Ryan leaned forward slightly.
"We already have a lead on their location," he said calmly. "We're just trying to be more certain before we make any move."
Mrs. Cole's eyes widened slightly.
"You know where they are?"
"We believe we do," Ryan replied. "But we don't want to rush into anything without confirming it."
He then turned toward Amelia.
"Babe, show Mrs. Cole your phone."
Amelia immediately picked up her phone and unlocked it before handing it to Mrs. Cole.
"Look at this," she murmured softly.
Mrs. Cole took the phone, and the moment she saw the message displayed on the screen, her entire body went still.
The message had been sent from Rebecca's phone, but Mrs. Cole immediately knew that Rebecca had not written it because she knew her son too well.
The wording, the intention behind it, and the fact that the message was designed to make everyone believe Rebecca had willingly left Derek all pointed toward Adrian.
She slowly read the message.
"I've seen another man, Amelia, one that treats me better, and I plan on marrying him. Tell Derek not to look for me or send anyone after me because I'm getting married to Adrian."
Mrs. Cole's fingers tightened around the phone, after she finished reading.
"This wasn't written by Rebecca," she said, the statement sounding more like a question, while Ryan nodded.
"When Amelia came to me with this message, that was when I discovered that your son Adrian was working with Michael."
Mrs. Cole's expression changed immediately.
"Who is Michael?" She asked because if she could remember clearly, Henry hadn't told her anything about anyone named Michael, just the way he hadn't told her Adrian also kidnapped Derek, she thought.
Ryan's face hardened.
"Michael is another criminal we have been trying to get out of Derek and Rebecca's lives by all means necessary."
Mrs. Cole stared at him, her mind struggling to process everything.
"So my son is working with him?"
"We believe so," Ryan replied.
Before Mrs. Cole could say anything else, one of the security men suddenly raised his hand, signaling toward Ryan.
"Sir."
Ryan immediately turned toward him.
"What is it?"
"We have a confirmed location for Mr. Hemsworth." The man said, causing Ryan to give him his full attention.
"What about Mrs. Hemsworth?" He asked.
The man looked at the screen again.
"Her location is still glitchy, sir. We're getting a signal, but there is no residential building anywhere close to where the signal is pointing."
Ryan's expression became serious while Mrs. Cole's heart sank.
"What does that mean?" she asked.
"It means we can't confirm her exact location yet," Ryan explained turning to look at her.
Amelia immediately looked worried.
"But Rebecca is pregnant," she said, her voice trembling. "What if something happens to her? What if all of this stress affects her or the baby?"
Mrs. Cole's eyes widened.
"She's pregnant?" She asked, the words came out almost as a whisper, causing Amelia to look at her.
"You didn't know?" she asked.
Mrs. Cole slowly shook her head, and suddenly she felt as though the room had become too small.
She had already been terrified for Rebecca, but knowing that she was carrying a child made everything even more frightening.
"Oh God..." she whispered, her eyes filling with tears as she pressed a hand against her chest. "What has my son done?"
Ryan looked at Amelia and saw the tears beginning to gather in her eyes too, he slowly reached toward her and gently wiped the tears from her cheek.
"Ame, we need to stay focused."
"But she's pregnant," Amelia whispered. "We can't just leave her there."
"We're not leaving her," Ryan assured her softly. "But right now, we have a confirmed location for Derek, and we need to get him first."
Amelia looked at him with worry.
"And Rebecca?"
"Once Derek is here, we can use whatever information he gives us to plan Rebecca's rescue properly," Ryan explained. "We can't rush into a situation when we don't even know exactly where she is."
Amelia nodded slowly, though she still looked terrified.
Ryan leaned closer and briefly kissed her forehead before looking back at the men around the table.
"Get everything ready."
He turned toward five of the security men.
"You five are coming with me."
The men immediately nodded, standing up they walked over to the other side of the room to prepare their weapons for the mission ahead.
Ryan then looked at the remaining security personnel.
"You two stay here with Amelia and Mrs. Cole."
The men nodded.
After making sure everything was ready, Ryan took one last look at Amelia before he, too, stood up and began walking toward the door.
Mrs. Cole watched him leave, her heart filled with fear and guilt as she silently prayed that they would find Derek alive, because if they could bring him back safely, perhaps they would finally have a chance of finding Rebecca and saving her before Adrian's actions caused something that none of them could ever take back.
