Chapter 149 Do Whatever
Amelia leaned forward slightly and shrugged. “You still love him. Fine,” she says, her voice sounding calm. “But don’t show it. Don't let him see or know it.”
Rebecca stared at her still confused. “Why?” she asked curiously.
“Because he doesn’t even know what he wants yet,” Amelia said. “And until he decides… you don’t give him that power again.”
That made sense. Rebecca thought but it also felt hard.
Rebecca looked down. “And Adrian? What do I do with him?”
Amelia paused then sighed. “I still don’t like it,” she said honestly.
Rebecca gave a small, tired laugh.
“I figured.”
“But…” Amelia continued.
Rebecca looked up again.
“But if this is what will make Derek wake up…” She shrugged slightly. “Then I’m not stopping you.”
Rebecca blinked, surprised. “Wait… so you’re okay with it now?”
Amelia shook her head quickly. “Please, don't get me wrong. I'm not okay with him.” she said then added, “I’m just being realistic. His presence will get Derek to sit up.”
She held Rebecca’s gaze. “But you need to be careful.”
Rebecca frowned slightly. “Careful of what?”
“Yourself,” Amelia said.
“You’re already confused. Already hurt.”
She gestured lightly. “Don’t let yourself fall into something you don’t understand yet.”
Rebecca nodded slowly. That made sense. Everything they'd discussed made sense but then, it didn’t make it easier.
She leaned back into the couch feeling tired and drained. “I don’t know what I’m doing,” she admitted.
Amelia gave a small smile. “Good.”
Rebecca looked at her. “What?” she asked with a frown.
She shrugged. “I mean, if you're saying that, then it means you’re finally being honest with yourself.”
Rebecca didn’t respond. She just sat there, quietly thinking but glad she wasn't alone anymore.
Rebecca leaned back on the couch, her head resting against it. Her eyes were open, but she wasn’t really looking at anything.
Her mind was still full, thinking about everything Amelia had just said.
Amelia on the other hand picked up her phone absentmindedly, scrolling through it. At first, she wasn’t paying attention.
Just moving her thumb until she got to a particular post and she paused.
Her eyes narrowed slightly.
“What is this?” she muttered.
Rebecca didn’t react because she was too deep in her thoughts to even hear what Amelia had just said.
Amelia sat up straighter to take a good look at the post. Her face changed from confusion to annoyance and then to anger.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” she said under her breath.
Rebecca frowned slightly and turned her head. “What?” she asked softly.
Amelia didn’t answer immediately. She was still staring at her phone, reading and processing what she was seeing.
This man is actually unbelievable… she thought.
“Rebecca,” she said slowly.
Something in her tone made Rebecca sit up a little. “What is it?” she asked.
Amelia hesitated for a second wondering if she should show her or not. But then, she decided to, knowing she might see it sooner or later.
She turned the phone and held it out. “Look.”
Rebecca reached for it slowly. Her fingers felt cold. A strange feeling settled in her chest.
She looked down at the screen and froze. It was a picture of Derek and Celia, again.
Celia had her arms around him, holding him close in a hug, outside an event hall, like they were something. Like they were… together.
Rebecca’s breath caught. Her chest tightened instantly. Her eyes didn’t move from the screen. She just kept staring. Reading the caption and the comments under.
“Married man caught with another woman again…”
“Playboy even after marriage…”
“Poor wife…”
“Some men never change…”
Her fingers trembled slightly, her mind went blank for a second.
Rebecca swallowed, her throat felt tight and her chest hurt. How could he come here just last night to accuse her when he's there, still stuck up on Celia? Even hugging her so publicly now? Did he do that to spite her?
Amelia was watching her closely, while waiting for her reaction since she knew this would hit. What she didn't expect was this silence.
“Rebecca…” she called softly.
Rebecca blinked slowly, still looking at the screen.
Why does this still hurt? She didn’t want it to. She really didn’t. But it did. Because no matter what—
It still involved him. It still reminded her of everything. The past. The pain of knowing he left her just to go be with his ex.
Amelia shook her head, angry now. “This man is just so stupid,” she said.
Rebecca finally looked up, her eyes slightly red again. Amelia didn’t hold back.
“He just keeps making things worse,” she continued. “Even when he doesn’t mean to.”
Rebecca looked back at the phone. Her fingers tightened around it. She was still trying to get over every thing that happened in the past and maybe listen to him when he shows up again but how would be able to do that after this?
“What am I supposed to do with this? Isn't this a way of telling me he chose her? Why did he come here if he was going to run back to her?” Rebecca found herself questioning aloud even though the real person who could answer those questions was not there.
Amelia leaned closer. “Rebecca, look at me.”
Rebecca slowly lifted her eyes and Amelia held her gaze.
“Right now, I support you. You can do whatever you want,” she said.
Rebecca blinked. “What?”
“I mean it,” Amelia continued. “If you want to walk away from him completely, do it.”
Rebecca’s breath caught slightly at the thought of that.
“If after seeing all these and you want a divorce,” Amelia added, “you shouldn't hold back. Just go for it.”
Amelia didn’t look away. “I’m behind you,” she said firmly. “Whatever you decide.”
Rebecca swallowed. Her mind raced.
Am I ready for that…? Did she really want to divorce him? What did she want now? How could he do this to her? What did she do to deserve this much pain?
She exhaled slowly.
“I hate this,” she whispered.
Amelia softened a little. “I know.”
Rebecca shook her head slightly. “It’s like no matter what I do… he’s still there,” she said, her voice breaking again. “In my head… in my life… in everything…”
Amelia reached out and took the phone gently from her hand. “Then maybe it’s time you decide where he stays,” she said. “Does he stay in your past? Or do you keep carrying him into your future?”
Rebecca didn't answer because she didn't have an answer... at least not yet. She knew this wasn’t just about her feelings anymore.
It was about choice, one she wasn’t ready to make it, not tonight.
But she knew that somehow, something had to change. She just didn’t know what or when.
