Chapter 24 An awkward meal.
Astoria's pov
When she wakes up it's from the rwys of the receding afternoon sun. A ponding headache radiated from her head causing pain, however, the pain that's radiating from her nether region is even more intense. The memories from last night come over and she sits overwhelmed for a bit. Wobbling she stands up but after a few steps her legs give way and she's about to fall, right then a strong grip catches her preventing the fall. Looking back she's surprised to see Raiden holding her up. He then tells her that he had been at the table in her room (which was in the other side of the bed that her back was facing hence why she didn't notice him). The atmosphere is charged for a moment until she awkwardly looks away while wincing in pain, he then releases her.
Trying his best to maintain a straight face, he tells to go clean up and get something to eat all the while acting like nothing happened between the two of them last night, not even an explanation. Nodding in agreement, she hesitates a bit before deciding not to bring up last night's matter either since he didn't address it. Soon she is done and having brunch at the table along with Raiden. The meal is in silence until Raiden mutters an awkward sorry to which she smiles in acceptance. Both parties tacitly avoid last night after this. He then proceeds to inform her about the matter of her training since as the Luna she can't just be a trophy wife. She also agree since she neither wanted to be one. He then asks her if she has any aspect in mind and without hesitation, she replies she wants to learn management and strategy wwhiu h surprises Raiden since she doesn't look like someone that could manage others, however, he respect her choices and agrees telling her that an instructor would be assigned to her from tomorrow. Without suspense the rest of the meal goes smoothly after this.
Chapter 25 Unexpected visitor.
Astoria's pov
For the first time in her life she actually appreciates her stepmother(thought) especially as she takes the lessons on pack management. Each aspect requires her to undergo rigorous mental training which she had never gone through before. Her instructor is a woman called Velda from a vassal pack of the Twilight pack that was mainly responsible for the pack’s logistics. Soon the two became bossom friends. By now it's abeen nearly a week since she and Raiden had seen each other after that day although she didn't mind his absence, according to him, iy was one of the routine inspections he usually did every other month around his faraway mines.
After she was done with that days training and Velda was gone only she was left in the hall, following a bark, Ber ran over to her side while an exasperated maid stood at the door, smiling, she hugged the furball in her hand. Right then another maid (you can add that she saw something similar to respect in the maids expression although fear was still the majority considering the example Raiden made with the disrespectful maid) stood at the entrance and bowed while announcing that she had a visitors which surprised her since she rarely had visitors. Nodding, she sent the maid off before heading to the guest receiving hall along with the maid that was taking care of Ber( the maids kinda like her personal attendant, let's name her Anna)
When she entered though she was surprised to see that the visitor was none other than Xylia.
Chapter 26 I hate your face, get out!
Astoria's pov.
She is both stunned and shocked when she sees Astoria sitting legs crossed in the hall, furthermore, in the seat specifically reserved for the Luna at that( you know those king and his queen seats right, yeah) which was a blunt provocation. Anna beside her sees this and whispers to Astoria that should she get the guards but Astoria simply raises her hand in a sign that meant she shouldn't worry. Slowly, she moves forward one step at a time as the various lessons Velda had thought her came to mind, in a few moments her mind her analysed everything possibly happening. This was a clear provocation and judging from the fact that both Beatrice and Collins were not saying a word they had to be complicit(she knew that had to be around somewhere and would jump out immediately she made a move) at the same time if she didn't do anything, it would reflect poorly on her and most especially Raiden.
Finally standing in front of the chair, she stared at Xylia who had a smirk in her face as she mockingly greeted “the new Luna" Astoria however, didn't bother to reply with her greeting, instead with eyes narrowed she muttered “I don't like your face get out." in a voice that only the two of them couldn't hear. She then called out to the guards to who immediately rushed in to take care of the intruder using her exclusive command as the Luna of the pack. Xylia is shocked but right then Beatrice's voice comes over causing the guards to halt.
Chapter 27
Astoria's pov
A frown appears on her face when she hears Beatrice's voice. Seeing that she didn't get obstructed since she thought that her mother-in-law wasn't going to get involved, however, it seemed that she was too hopeful. However, it didn't matter to her as she was already thinking about a reply. Beatrice admonishes her about treating a guest poorly in a mocking tone while hinting at her inability to hold onto her throne( the guards have by now gotten Xylia off the throne).
Using the fact that she was the previous matriarch of the clan she orders the guards to return to their posts mentioning that it was all a ruse. However, Astoria doesn't take this as if she allows it her authority would be undermined. Therefore, she wields out her last resort, an embelm Raiden gave her before leaving, immediately the guards kneel down in obeisance while both Beatrice and Xylia eyes widen in shock. If seeing her with the Exclusive Luna command token was shocking enough they couldn't even find words to describe their shock as this was an exclusive command token that belonged to only the alpha. It was usually given out to the most trusted person in the alpha's retinue and there was only one. Without any further words, the guards boot Xylia out of the hall and pack grounds, Beatrice on the other hand looks like a ghost as she stared at Astoria who equally stares back eventually she leaves the hall leaving only Astoria alone.
When everyone leaves, she powerlessly site on the Luna throne while playing with the token in her hand. This shouldn't have happened since it was meant to be a trump card, however, she had revealed it too early. She definitely still had a long way to go in her training.
