CHAPTER 17 Grisko is back
Flame’s POV.
Hot tears stream down my face as Zara crawls from the room. Away from me. Away from my attempt at love. I am such an idiot.. I hate that she's mad at me.. I hope I can fix this. What can I do to make it up to her.. I was trying to keep her safe. As I stand in the middle of the room looking down at a puddle of water and glass shards lost in my thoughts, Bruce enters the room.
“Sir! Grisko has been safely rescued and returned. He has news for you when you are ready.” I nod and turn to grab a towel to clean the spill up. Bending down I slowly soak the water up. When the floor is dry, I magically repair the glass. Slowly I stand up and take a deep breath. Trying to steady myself. Trying to remember that all of these outbursts are not entirely her fault. An ear-splitting scream of pain startles Bruce and I. Cursing as I drop the freshly repaired glass. Knowing it probably smashed again. Bruce and I are out the door and running to the stairs before it hits the ground however so I won’t know until later.
“Zara! What the hell happened!” I scream sprinting down the hall. Heart beating fast and hard ready for Medusa or some other enemy. I freeze at the top of the stairs in horror and shock. Time slows down, Zara’s long black hair and beautiful silk dress are all I can make out as she is a blur rolling and bouncing down the marble stairs. She screams again halfway down as her knee makes contact with the edge of a step. It makes a sickening crunching sound. I am frozen in horror as I watch my beautiful fated love go limp and roll off the stairs. The world speeds up again. Her head smashing into the wall. Blood splattering up the wall and immediately beginning to pool under her head. She lies there, unmoving. Her breathing is slight and her body is bruised.
“Bruce, get a doc-” Grisko rushes past me interrupting my yell and down the stairs. His robes swished behind him.
“You have one.” Grisko drops to his knees. Hands shaking, he begins to attempt to heal her. Running down the stairs I stand there terrified to get too close in case it angers the healer.
“What have you done to her while I have been gone..” His tone is icy cold.
“She fell down the damn stairs!” I protest loudly.
“She didn’t paralyze herself with a dart.. Her body shows the signs. It is your signature move.” I swallow at his words and look down at the floor. Shame creeping up my face.
“She is healed enough for me to transport her to the emporium. I left you a detailed report on what happened to me on your desk..” Grisko waves his hand and Zara raises into the air slowly. It is an eerie sight how she floats after Grisko.
“Grisko!” He stops and turns, looking back at me. “Make sure to let me know how she is.. Her parents will be at the emporium to see her soon..” Grisko nods slightly then turns and walks out.
***
Grisko’s POV.
“Oh beautiful pup.. I will take care of you just like I did last time.. Don’t worry..” I work as I coo words of love and reassurance at Zara. Sewing her skull up then magically healing the internal bleeding. She is in a deep sleep but I hope she can hear me still. “You have great healing speeds.. You will be okay in no time my little pup.” I kiss Zara's forehead gently.
“Brother?” I turn and smile at my sister.
“I'm home! Did you miss me?” Grisket smiles.
“Unfortunately, I did. I need your help running this place don't I? Grisket gestured all around at the shop's interior.
“I am sorry. I left such a mess behind me..” Grisket raises an eyebrow at me and scoffs.
“You were kidnapped, Grisko.. What were you meant to have done?” Laughing I shrug.
“No clue.”
“Oh fates! My head..” I spin in shock. Zara is sitting up on my medical table holding her head.
“Careful, Z..” Her eyes sparkle with tears at the sight of my face. “Hey, What's wrong?” She sobs and lays her head against mine.
“I'm just so glad you’re here with me.. I am sad I can't tell if this is real or not though..” As I open my mouth to respond Zara’s eyes roll into the back of her head and she slumps forward onto me suddenly.
“Oh! Shit!” I yelp. Grisket helps me load her onto a rolling bed I conjured up. As I tuck her into the bed Grisket bandages her head and begins to repair her broken bones. I am too energetically depleted to do any more magic right now.
“No! It can’t be! No! My daughter!!” The scream startles me. I spin to see a man run in and grab Zara’s hand. Kissing it. Tears from his eyes splash onto her blankets.
“ Is she going to be okay?” Grisket smiles at him as she hooks Zara up to medical equipment and monitors.
“She is strong. I'm sure she will heal up quickly..” The man nods at her words and lays his head down on the side of Zara’s bed. His body was shaking with sobs. It was really strange though.. I can smell joy radiating from Zara’s father. His body language says he is sad but his body and the smell radiating off of him say he is overjoyed.. Strange..
“You smell like joy.. Why? Your daughter is in a coma right now. Why are you-” He cuts me off.
“I am happy to see her breathing and alive..” I nod. This did make sense I suppose.. As I leave I hear him sigh and mumble something.. It is hard to hear so I step closer and hide outside the door.
“Oh Zara.. You will make an amazing sacrifice to Medusa.. I am sorry it has to come to this. Fear and rage fill me and it takes all my energy not to burst through the door, back into the room. I am ready to fight and kill him. I wait and listen as her father continues to talk.
“ You could have lived.. But by relocating us you are angering Medusa I had to promise you wouldn’t be an issue again. Your mother was already an issue. She is the reason Medusa only just woke up this year.. And not when you were a little girl..” He sighs heavily. “Unfortunately you act just like your mother did.. So.. You will have to be dealt with..”
