Chapter 92 🐉
Dom felt a rush through his veins.
A hot lava ran slowly through his limbs, his flight dwindling. A cloud of haze came over his eyes for a millisecond.
Waai saw the midnight Dragon fly low and low. It was clear the animal was poisoned and the host was barely holding on. A swell of excitement exploded in his chest. It was going to be an easy victory.
But then he got confused. The Dragon seemed to have shaken himself and was already gliding through the grasslands, breathing fire down at the SHS guns pointed right at him.
Elijah's massive grey dragon gave a huff of relief at the sight of his son and rushed after him to scale the wide area where SHS guns were laid.
'The potion worked, Little Wolf.' Dom informed Iris, who had been impatiently waiting for news.
She sighed in relief.
Master Aikis had collaborated with the Capricorn Witches to create a shield against SHS dark magic, so that only the chemical might render the person slightly weak for a while but couldn't reach the animal. The potion had been distributed to all of Dom's army.
But Waai, on the other hand, was furious. SHS worked swiftly, so why weren't any animals fainting or falling? Had they somehow developed a resistance to the drug? But that wasn't possible. The drug was infused with dark magic to attack the inner animal of a person. It wasn't a bacteria that the body could create antibodies against.
Then how was the Dragon King still heading onwards?
It didn't matter.
Y ordered for the ammunition to be changed.
And as Dom's army was advancing and destroying SHS traps without being affected, Y's army was ready to unlock their next weapon.
But they needed time to protect and reload the remaining guns. So Y decided to unleash a weapon that he knew Dom and Elijah would recognize from the first war.
Dom was putting everything in sight on fire but then a familiar screech made him stop mid-flight. Elijah was just as horrified as Dom.
A massive Dragonoid form was released from behind Y's lines and headed straight at them. There were abnormal ridges on the beast and it breathed unnatural fire. It was the same screech that Freya used to make when the humans had experimented on her and turned her into a monster. But this time the beast shared similarities with Freddie's younger sister, Isabella.
But wasn't she dead?
Hadn't Y killed her live and made sure she was irretrievable? Everyone had seen that. It was the very thing that had sent Freddie down the road of grief. That was the reason why Freddie wasn't with Dom on the battlefield.
Dom rushed to gain its attention so that the mindless rage monster wouldn't kill many more of his army. Dom and Elijah were possibly the only two who could take the hits.
By the looks of it, Y had somehow faked Isabella's death and, with vengeful human help, he had subjected the poor innocent soul to the same torture that once innocent Freya had to go through. She had been turned into a weapon against her own people.
'Dom? What is it?' Iris could feel something had gone wrong, Dom's guilty vibes had doubled and so had his pain.
'It's Isabella. That bastard didn't kill her. He turned her into another Freya." Dom managed to convey as he dodged a hit from the spiked tail of the monster that Isabella now was.
Iris felt shattered at that news.
Despite knowing that Freddie had turned off his mind link since yesterday. Iris still tried to use her Alpha crown magic to connect to him. It was important that he knew what had happened.
She kept sending messages. She was desperately hoping that Freddie would listen. But unlike WhatsApp, it was impossible to know if the other person had received the messages or not. She just needed Freddie to know the truth about what Y had done to his sister and how much she needed him to avenge his sister because she couldn't be on the battlefield.
There was no response.
While on the field, Dom and Elijah were having a hard time against the beast. Y seemed to have upgraded and made some special modifications. The beast was more ferocious and more dangerous. It had bitten into Elijah's wing, and sent him spiraling down into the plains below where the werewolves and vampires were fighting against Y's pawns.
The ammunition in the guns was reloaded.
The new shots were ready to be fired.
Waai gave permission and this time, one by one, werewolves began to die.
This new ammunition simply killed the being, animal and person, at once. Like a lead bullet to the human brain. Instant deaths surrounded them.
Y watched satisfied as Dom alone faced the angry monster, barely keeping up. Rushing to the skies, then pushing back to the ground, trying to stop or at least slow it. But failing to do either.
The new ammunition was proving effective even on Dragons, though in larger quantities. Once his fellow dragons began dropping to the ground like flies, Dom became desperate. He had come to end the war and reduce casualties. And so far, his side had taken way more losses than he would've preferred, but then, he would've preferred none at all.
'Dom, what's happening, Love?' Iris asked, getting worried.
But Dom connected to all of his army and gave the order, 'Retreat and regroup.'
The thing with such a massive connection was that even Y's shifters could hear Dom's whispers. After all, Dom was the Alpha King of All shifters, regardless of whose side they were in the war.
The news of the apparent retreat of Dom spread a wave of primary victory through Y's troops.
Y gave the order to chase.
He wasn't going to let Dom get away. He had managed to evade the shots from the new ammunition due to being busy with Isabelle. But he was still alive and so was Iris, and he wanted them both dead. Y wasn't keen on any hostages of war. His mission was to eradicate as many as he could, so he could later establish a new world order.
'I'll cover you Dad, go back with the rest.' Dom told Elijah, who staggered with his wounded wing, barely escaping from the shots of lethal ammo.
That is when Dom's tail got entangled with the beast's spiked one and one of his front paws was snatched in the beast's terrifying jaws. Dom gave out a screech of pain as Iris shuddered from miles away. Her baby kicked restlessly in her womb like it had felt its father in pain. She got up from her praying mat and paced in the verandah. She was alone in the Temple but she had her faith.
The beast broke Dom's forepaw in a crunch and was about to cut it clean off but got thrown back due to a massive hit.
Dom, the beast, and this third party went tumbling down to the ground.
Another familiar screech was heard. Dom looked up shocked from where he had fallen.
Isabella's dragonoid was in a ferocious battle with Liliana's dragon. The two were each as mindless and mad as the other. They clawed at each other, spat fire, and tried to pull the flesh off each other's bones.
And then Dom heard it through his mind-link, a broken voice, speaking in pieces like a toddler, but definitely the voice of his lost little sister with the out-of-sync Dragon, 'Dom! Heard, you. Talk, retreat. Dad! Sorry. Had to come! My responsibility. Dungeon, out of magic.'
He didn't know what he should feel. She had done some heinous crimes and was about to commit infanticide. And she was apologizing, coming to her certain death because she heard her father was in trouble.
'Dom, baby, please keep talking to me.' Iris pleaded, restlessly.
'It's Liliana. She came.' Was all he could manage. But the way he said it, Iris immediately understood that Lily was not on Y's side anymore. Too little, too late, she thought.
'Just get out of there, honey. Please.' Iris begged Dom, but his pain traveled through the mind-link as he told her, 'Can't.' It wasn't a choice. He was simply unable to do so because of his injuries. Nothing fatal, but with Y's army approaching, it wouldn't have been long before it was too late.
'Dom.' Tears rolled down her cheeks as Iris felt a strange electricity rush through her fingertips at the thought of losing her beloved so soon. It was unfair that they found each other so late and were forced to lose each other so fast.
'I love you, Little Wolf. Tell our Littlest Wolf, her father was a hero.' He croaked a joke in an attempt to feel the slightest bit of relief from Iris, but she broke down more, 'Tell her yourself.'
'You didn't say it could be a boy.'
'A little victory for our hero.' She sobbed in anguish, not being able to control the influx of emotions.

Is this the end of our Hero? Will Iris never be able to achieve her happily ever after? Despite all the setbacks, did Y win?**
