Chapter 90 Something Hidden

Chapter 90 Something Hidden
I felt giddy, restless… in fact it was like I was feeling all the wonderful emotions at once. There was this… indescribable bounce to my steps as we walked to the dining room.

“What did you two do to me?” I asked, squinting my eyes in suspicion.

“Huh… what do you mean?” Finley asked, staring at me in confusion.

“You know what I mean…the thing.. in the bathroom” from my peripheral vision, I saw Marco's brow perk up with a sudden interest in the conversation.

“If you don't mind elaborating, I'm sure it'll help refresh my memory about what happened between us in the bathroom” Finley replied, smiling knowingly.

“Stop being an ass fin” Nicole said, slapping his head.

“What was that for?” He whined in protest.

“What are you guys talking about?” Marco asked suddenly.

“Since when did you start getting interested in other people's lives?” Finley asked with a scowl.

Nicole smacked his head again and his scowl deepened.

“It's a bit personal, Marco” Nicole said, then turned to me. “And we just helped you relieve some stress, it's a skill passed down in our family”

Seriously? even spas didn't usually go that extreme when relieving stress.

But I wasn't about to voice my opinion seeing as whatever they did, had a pretty positive effect on me.

We turned the corner, just as the girl from earlier opened the door for us.

The moment we stepped into the room… my mind screamed for me to do a U-turn… but my feet instead carried me forward.

The dining room was set as a table for ten, four seats opposite each other and one at each end.

Ronan and Zeibar each sat at the head of the table… opposite each other, they both seemed distracted by their phones but I could feel the unquestionable tension hovering between, as bright as day.

I took my seat at the dining table, Finley and Nicole took theirs, close to each other while Gabriel sat close to Ronan. A door at the far end of the room opened and Alia stepped in.

One would think the girl would dress fashionably to impress her crush at least. She'd changed into a pair of baggy jeans and a t-shirt twice her size… and she was still barefoot.

Guess it was a thing for her.

My gaze dropped to the collar, around her neck.

I liked the fact that she actually did the opposite of what any girl would have done, in all she chose to go with only the things she was comfortable in.

Not like Ronan would have cared if she did otherwise, he was just that type of man after all.

She slowly took her seat opposite me, for some reason and soon enough, food was being served.

The staff moved quietly and meticulously, dishing out food with utmost precision and by the time they were done, I was staring at an all you can eat buffet.

The door closed softly behind the staff leaving the main party all alone, everyone slowly started their meal.

I guess all aristocratic households were like this.. I was way past caring honestly, I just hoped they'd do this after the meal cos at this moment, I couldn't find it in me to swallow a single bite with ease.

“Couldn't you at least wear something proper Ali?” Zeibar asked, breaking the already uncomfortable silence.

“Lay off my case asshole” Alia growled, eyes focused on her meal as she downed bite after bite ravenously.

I instantly envied her.

Zeibar scoffed and murmured something along the lines of puberty.

“Anyway, seeing as you're all here for the matter on ground… I have to come clean and let you all know Andrew's orders were strictly to take out general and that was all”

“So you're saying he went against your orders and for some reason he's still alive and healthy” Ronan stated, staring at Zeibar unbelieving.

“I do not have the luxury to babysit a kid Ronan” he replied with a wave of his hand.

Of course… only people like them would measure their need for violence equivalent to a chore.

Zeibar smirked slowly, staring at Ronan with unhinged interest.

“I might have asked him to have fun actually… of course I knew for a fact it wouldn't be so easy to get rid of you” he cut a piece of steak and put it in his mouth, chewing it steadily, then he swallowed and washed it down with a glass of wine.

“Look, my orders were to kill the general only, Andrew came at the right time with a clear motive in mind” he rubbed his chin thoughtfully. “You can say it was a surprising alliance born from different reasons that happened to tread on the same path… all leading to you” he said pointing at Ronan.

By now, everyone had forgotten their food with more interest in the conversation.

“You said, orders,” Ronan drawled. “First time I'm hearing the head of the Dias taking orders”

Zeibar stared at him, long and hard.

“You shouldn't find it hard to believe there are other authorities much higher than me right”

“Which is why I'm curious as to who this person is”

“We'd have to talk about it after this meal” Zeibar said. “Alone”

“I do not have time for your games Zeibar, these people at this table are my most trusted, I assure you, you can say anything” Ronan countered.

For a brief moment, my heart fluttered… to think that he trusted me.

It was an honor.

Silence ensued… deathly calm.

It was like an imaginary clock was ticking in my head, slowly… at an agonizingly slow pace.

“It's about your family Ronan,” Zeibar said with a light grin.

Gabriel's spoon stopped mid-air, his mouth parted in the moment he was about to take a bite.

Everyone else stiffened, their pose also frozen in the moment.

It wasn't surprising that I was the only oddity looking from left to right, in hopes of a clue dropping into my laps.

“Still think I can let the cat out of the bag, right here, right now?” Zeibar said, frankly he seemed to be enjoying the reactions of everyone as he sipped his wine then stared at Ronan from the glass rim.

I suddenly felt chills crawl up my spine, settling in my bones.

“Everyone” Ronan started, voice calm. “Seems like I'm going to have to withhold this information from all of you here”

He stood up and walked towards the door, “Let's go”

“Ohh come on…” Zeibar whined, “I'm still eat-”

One look from Ronan and he swiftly put a cork to his remaining words.

He exhaled heavily and stood up, following Ronan as they walked out of the door.

Well… safe to say, things are going well for now, my main problem was the fact that I couldn't get this weight off my chest.

Something was going to go terribly wrong… very soon.
