Chapter 146: The Ring Of Redemption
Chapter 146: The Ring Of Redemption
Later, as she sat alone in the quiet penthouse, her hands drifted to her belly.
Barely there yet.
Just a whisper of life.
But real.
She imagined tiny fingers.
Tiny toes.
Blue eyes or hazel?
Dark hair or lighter like Julian’s mother?
The thought made her smile despite everything.
Whatever happened...
This child would be loved.
Even if it terrified her.
Even if it changed everything.
It was theirs.
A new beginning.
A fragile, beautiful miracle born from so much chaos and pain.
And Lexi Thorn — fierce, stubborn, guarded Lexi — would fight for it with everything she had.
Lexi spent the entire day trying to find the right words.
She rehearsed a dozen speeches in her head, each more pathetic than the last.
"I have news."
"I'm pregnant."
"Surprise! You're going to be a dad."
Every version made her stomach knot in panic.
She wasn’t afraid of Julian himself —
She was afraid of losing the fragile thing they had just started to rebuild.
What if he panicked?
What if he thought she had trapped him?
What if he hated her for it?
Lexi had survived betrayal, heartbreak, and humiliation.
But she wasn't sure she could survive Julian looking at her with regret.
Not again.
—
The sky had darkened by the time she finally heard the sound of the penthouse elevator.
Her heart lurched into her throat.
Footsteps.
Keys dropping on the console.
The faint rustle of his jacket being shrugged off.
Then Julian’s voice, casual, warm.
"Lexi? I'm home."
She sat frozen on the couch, hands clenching the hem of her sweater.
For a moment, she considered running.
Hiding.
Pretending everything was fine for just one more night.
But she couldn't.
Not anymore.
She had to face this.
Face him.
Face their future.
"Julian," she called, her voice steadier than she felt.
He appeared in the doorway, his tie loosened, his sleeves rolled up, looking exhausted but still devastatingly handsome.
The moment he saw her face, he went alert.
"What is it?" he asked, crossing the room to her. "Lexi, what’s wrong?"
She stood up too quickly, making herself dizzy.
"I need to talk to you," she said.
Julian frowned, sensing the seriousness in her tone.
He led her to the couch, sitting them both down.
He took her hands in his, thumbs stroking soothing circles across her knuckles.
"Whatever it is," he said softly, "just tell me."
Lexi drew a shaky breath.
"I’m pregnant," she whispered.
The words hung in the air, heavy and earth-shattering.
Julian froze.
For a long moment, he just stared at her, as if trying to process what he'd heard.
Lexi’s heart thudded painfully.
Say something.
Please say something.
Finally, Julian moved.
Not away from her — toward her.
He cupped her face in his hands, searching her eyes.
"Say it again," he said, voice rough.
"I'm pregnant," she said, louder this time. "I'm carrying your child."
His eyes closed briefly, emotion crashing over his face.
When he opened them again, they shone with something fierce and overwhelming.
"You’re sure?" he asked, voice trembling.
Lexi nodded, tears welling in her eyes.
"Two tests," she said brokenly. "Both positive. I—I didn't know how to tell you. I was scared you’d—"
Julian didn’t let her finish.
He pulled her into his arms, holding her so tightly she could barely breathe.
"You're carrying my child," he whispered into her hair, like it was a prayer. "Our child."
Lexi clung to him, tears spilling down her cheeks.
"I'm sorry," she choked. "I should have told you sooner. I just... after everything, I didn’t know how you’d feel—"
He pulled back just enough to look at her.
His thumbs wiped away her tears, his touch achingly gentle.
"I feel like the luckiest bastard alive," he said fiercely.
A sob escaped her lips.
"You don't hate me?"
"Hate you?" Julian laughed — a raw, shaky sound. "Lexi, you’ve just given me the one thing I never thought I'd have."
He kissed her, hard and desperate.
"You," he murmured against her lips. "A family. A future."
Lexi kissed him back, pouring all her fear, her hope, her love into it.
When they finally pulled apart, Julian pressed his forehead to hers.
"You are never alone in this," he said. "Never."
She nodded, too overwhelmed to speak.
Julian’s hands moved down, framing her waist, settling over her still-flat stomach.
"I'll protect you both," he promised, voice fierce. "With everything I have."
Lexi laughed through her tears.
"You already do," she whispered.
—
Later, they lay curled together on the bed, Lexi tucked against his chest, Julian’s hand resting protectively over her stomach.
He kept whispering little things to her.
Plans for the nursery.
Names he liked.
Dreams he never thought he could dream again.
Lexi listened, heart full to bursting.
For the first time in what felt like forever, she let herself believe it could be real.
That happiness — true, messy, terrifying happiness — might actually be possible for them.
Julian kissed her hair.
"I love you," he murmured. "Both of you."
Lexi smiled, tears slipping silently down her cheeks.
"I love you too," she whispered back.
And she meant it.
With everything she had.
With everything she was.
With everything they were about to become.
Julian watched Lexi sleep, the soft rise and fall of her breathing anchoring something inside him he hadn’t realized was adrift.
Her hair was a wild halo against the pillow.
Her hand rested protectively over her belly — his child inside her, their future growing quietly, beautifully.
For the first time in his life, Julian Styles felt utterly, terrifyingly vulnerable.
Because he loved her more than his pride.
More than his power.
More than his own life.
And now she carried their child — an extension of both of them.
He couldn’t just tell her how much she meant to him.
He needed to show her.
In a way no words could ever reach.
Something permanent.
Something undeniable.
Something that said: You are my world.
Quietly, careful not to wake her, Julian slipped out of bed.
He grabbed his phone and headed to his private study, already dialing.
"Mark," he said when his friend answered groggily. "I need your help."
