Chapter 134 Ch-134
Raven's POV

The steaming water crashed over my shoulders, but it did nothing to wash away the memory of Magnus's hands and his scent on my skin. I leaned my forehead against the cold tile, trying to steady my breathing.
Suddenly, a white-hot agony ripped across my back. I gasped. A sickening burn flared exactly where the serpent tattoo was. It felt like someone was pressing a red-hot iron directly into my flesh throughout the tattoo. I clutched the wall and stumbled out of the shower into the main bathroom, my breath coming in ragged hitches.
I wiped the condensation off the mirror with a shaking hand and spun around to look over my shoulder. The skin where the mark used to be was scorched. The tattoo looked as though it had been burned away from the inside out, turning a deep charcoal black. A fiery red glow pulsed beneath the damaged skin. A severe wave of dizziness hit me, making the bathroom spin. I grabbed my bathrobe and shoved my arms through the sleeves.
"Ah!" I cried out, gripping the edge of the sink.
I glanced at the mirror. A massive red man with horns and glowing red eyes stood directly behind me. I shrieked immediately in fear. It was the Red Monster.
I spun around immediately, but the space behind me was empty. Was I hallucinating, or was it real? It was the same creature I had read about weeks ago. Why was it appearing to me now?
I scrambled away from the mirror, sprinting out of the bathroom as fast as possible.
An involuntary roar ripped from my chest. I had not even realised I was making a sound.
I froze. Was it Ryx?
The bedroom door burst open. Zayne stood in the doorway. His eyes scanned the room until they locked onto me.
"Raven!" he yelled, lunging forward.
"Stay back," I tried to snap, but the words choked in my throat.
Before he could reach me, thick wolf fur sprouted across my knuckles. My fingernails transformed into sharp claws.
The moment the fur started spreading on my hands, the agonising burn on my back vanished. A sudden surge of energy hit my body. I stared at my claws and then at Zayne.
A breathless, disbelieving laugh escaped my lips. My wolf, Ryx, was coming back. After all these months of abandoning me following the rejection, she was finally fighting her way back to me.
Zayne stopped moving. A slow, relieved smile spread across his face.
