Chapter 220
Chapter 220
The doctors outside and Zane watched the scene unfolding inside.
Everyone's mouths hung open.
They never expected that Aiden would be so obedient and well-behaved in front of Victoria.
Chris pushed up his glasses. "He probably activated a self-defense mechanism after his mental breakdown. Right now he's acting on instinct, and having Victoria come in was definitely the right call."
Zane pressed against the glass, anxiously watching the situation inside. "Thank god Ms. Spencer went in, otherwise who could have handled Mr. Smith in this state? Why is Mr. Smith's mental illness acting up so frequently? He wasn't like this before."
Zane remembered that in the past, Aiden's episodes usually happened once every two weeks, and typically at night.
This time Aiden started losing it during the day...
Chris shook his head, indicating he didn't know. "Maybe something triggered him. We'd need further examination to know more, but Mr. Smith isn't exactly someone we can have a proper conversation with right now."
Victoria held Aiden's hand. "Lie down on the bed. The doctor will come in to bandage you up in a bit. Don't move around."
Aiden's eyes reddened, his lips pouting like a child, as if he could burst into tears any second.
Victoria tugged at his cheek. "Be good. Injuries need bandaging, illness needs medicine. If you don't want others touching you, then don't get hurt."
Tears instantly rolled down Aiden's face, full of grievance and a crying tone. "Don't leave, don't leave me, okay? I don't want to sleep. Every time I sleep, you're gone when I wake up..."
Victoria gently patted his body. "I won't leave. Just be good. I'll call the doctor in now, and you cooperate with the treatment."
Aiden looked at Victoria in confusion. He nodded blankly, gripping Victoria's clothes tightly, refusing to let go.
Victoria frowned, noticing that his arm was bleeding again from the force he was using, the blood that had clotted now flowing down.
Aiden shrank his neck, using the bedding to hide his injured arm. "I'll be good, just don't leave."
Victoria sighed helplessly. "No need to hide it. I'll call the doctor in now."
She turned and signaled to the people outside. "You can come in now."
Chris pushed the door open. He wheeled in a small cart loaded with disinfection and suturing supplies and approached Aiden.
Victoria thought about how Chris would soon be threading a needle through flesh, and felt a phantom pain, her brow furrowing even tighter.
Aiden seemed completely unaware though. He held Victoria's hand, his gaze refusing to move even slightly.
"His wound is too deep. It needs to be disinfected and sutured. Victoria, to prevent him from getting violent, I need to give him a sedative first."
Victoria nodded gently. "Okay, I'll help you."
"I don't want him touching me!" Aiden suddenly became agitated, constantly pulling his arm back to avoid Chris's touch.
Victoria's voice carried a scolding tone. "Stop moving. If you don't cooperate, I'm leaving. Aiden, be good!"
Aiden closed his eyes looking wronged, his hand quietly pulling at Victoria's clothes.
Chris rarely saw Aiden acting so clingy and childish. Since he'd known Aiden, he always seemed to have that strategic, elite demeanor.
Right now he was actually kind of cute.
But... Chris quickly regained his cold composure. The only reason Aiden was being so obedient was because he was facing Victoria.
He hadn't forgotten how Aiden had run circles around them doctors this morning.
Victoria looked down as Chris injected the anesthetic, then watched the needle and thread pierce through flesh.
She sucked in a sharp breath, feeling goosebumps all over her body.
Suddenly everything went dark.
Aiden had propped himself up with his other hand to cover Victoria's eyes. "Don't be scared, I'll protect you."
Victoria blinked, warmth flowing through her heart.
She moved his hand away. "Just lie down and rest."
The sedative had already taken effect. His eyes became hazy, seeing double, but he still stubbornly refused to let go.
"Victoria, you won't leave me, right?"
He desperately wanted an answer.
Victoria was silent for a moment, then shook her head. "At least not today. Sleep now."
Just as Aiden's eyes were about to close, he suddenly opened them wide, propped himself up, and planted an innocent kiss on Victoria's cheek.
Then his body collapsed onto the bed. He was completely unconscious.
Victoria felt the warmth on her cheek. She raised her hand to touch it, her emotions complicated.
Soon, Chris had finished the treatment.
Victoria also breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you, Chris."
Chris frantically signaled to Victoria with his eyes, blinking and mouthing words for her to look to the side.
Victoria hadn't caught on yet, looking confused.
"What's wrong with your eyes? Are you okay?"
Chris looked completely defeated. He signaled again, trying to get Victoria to look behind her.
Victoria finally understood his hint and looked behind her in confusion, only to discover Chase standing there at some point.
She immediately let go of Aiden's hand and stood up, her expression confused, as guilty as if she'd been caught cheating.
"Chase, when did you get here?"
Chase's expression was bitter. "When... he was acting cute. When he kissed you."
Victoria pressed her lips together, feeling her throat go dry.
She wanted to explain, but Chase quickly covered her mouth.
He smiled gently, though there was a hint of loneliness in it. "Victoria, can we step outside? This isn't a good place to talk."
Victoria nodded firmly. "Okay."
Chase gripped her hand tightly, with great force, as if deliberately preventing her from breaking free.
Chase walked silently, leading her upstairs.
Victoria was a bit confused. "Chase, where are we going? Upstairs is just the rooftop. What are we doing at the rooftop?"
Chase didn't turn around, just stubbornly pulled her upward. "There's no one there to disturb us. Just you and me. Victoria, I want to talk to you."
"Okay, Chase, I can explain what happened today. Aiden and I aren't what you think. Just now..."
Chase didn't answer, just stubbornly kept walking up.
Finally they reached the rooftop.
A gust of wind blew past. Victoria tucked her hair behind her ear. "Why did you bring me up here?"
Chase let out a deep breath. "Victoria, you don't love me. The person you've always loved is Aiden."
Victoria quickly objected. "Of course not!"
"People's instinctive choices don't lie. Your first reaction to my closeness is to push away, but with him, your first reaction is to accept."
Chase's voice choked up, carrying a faint breaking sound.
"Victoria, do you want to break up? You know, no matter who you choose, your revenge will succeed."
Victoria's breath caught, a dense bitterness rising in her chest.
Her hand gripping the railing tightened again and again. Her voice was soft, full of conflict, carried by the wind to Chase's ears.
"I... don't know."
She didn't know what choice the future held, and she didn't want to hurt Chase's heart either.
Better to leave things as they were for now. Maybe time would give her an answer.
