Chapter 219

Chapter 219

Victoria fell silent.

Her mind was indeed full of thoughts about Aiden right now.

She knew that when Aiden had an episode, he was capable of anything.

She was afraid Aiden would die, afraid he would hurt someone.

But soon, Victoria hooked her arms around his neck and took the initiative to plant a kiss on his lips. "I admit I do care about him, but we're a couple, Chase. Do you really want me to leave you and go?"

These words made Chase's heart flutter. "No, but I don't want you to regret it."

Chase knew he had done something wrong today. He had no right to force Victoria to stay by his side anymore.

"Go ahead, go see him, Victoria. Just after you see him, can you please not break up with me?"

Victoria froze for a moment, completely not expecting Chase to take the initiative to let his girlfriend go see another man.

If it were Aiden, he would probably have started keeping her all to himself already.

Victoria felt sorry for his cautiousness and uncertainty—she hadn't given Chase enough sense of security.

Victoria cupped his face, speaking gently yet seriously.

"Why would I break up with you? Even if I go see him, it's just out of friendship. Besides, even if it were a cat or dog on the roadside about to die, I would feel bad for it. Chase, you don't need to worry. As long as you don't ask to break up, I won't leave you."

Chase nuzzled against her palm affectionately, like a big dog, staying close to Victoria and feeling her warmth.

"Okay, go see him. That lunatic is capable of anything. But I won't go. I'm afraid I won't be able to control myself..."

"Okay, trust me, and trust yourself too."

Victoria lowered her head, her warm kiss landing on his forehead.

She still got dressed and left.

Chase lay in the spot where Victoria had just been, breathing in the scent that belonged to her all around him, his heart growing peaceful.

He took out his computer, his slender fingers flying across the keyboard. In just a few minutes, he pulled up Aiden's hospital records and diagnosis results.

He looked at Aiden's diagnostic conclusions, his brows furrowing tightly.

"Moderate depression, moderate anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, manic depression, emotional detachment..."

Aiden had practically every mental illness there was.

And yet this man still appeared completely normal on the surface.

Chase's knuckles kept tapping on the desk, making rhythmic thumping sounds.

He closed the computer, but the doubt in his eyes hadn't disappeared—instead, it grew stronger.

Were Aiden's illnesses fake or real?

Or was this his way of playing the victim?

Chase got out of bed, not feeling sleepy at all, and drove straight to the hospital.

Earlier, he shouldn't have agreed to let Victoria go. He should have let that kind of person fend for himself.

Meanwhile, Victoria had already arrived at the hospital.

She hurried to the top floor VIP observation room.

Before she even got close, she saw Chris standing outside the door along with several doctors and nurses, and even Zane was pacing around outside, sweating profusely with anxiety.

None of these people dared to go in.

A man's roar came from inside the room, along with the sound of things being smashed.

Zane was shouting frantically from outside, "Mr. Smith, please calm down! The company still needs you, nothing can happen to you!"

The doctors and nurses held sedatives in their hands but didn't even have a chance to go in.

Victoria walked over to them.

Chris and Zane looked at her like she was their lifeline, both rushing toward her together.

Zane spoke first. "Ms. Spencer, please save Mr. Smith! He's self-harming in there again. He won't let us in. As soon as we try to enter, he threatens to cut the main artery in his neck! That could kill him!"

Chris looked like he was facing an extremely difficult case. "He won't let anyone near him right now. He's very guarded. Victoria, if you don't want to go in, that's fine."

Zane panicked when he heard this.

"Right now only Ms. Spencer can save Mr. Smith. Don't say such discouraging things."

Victoria's mind was racing as she looked through the glass window at the full scene inside.

The floor was covered with broken glass and ceramic pieces.

White and brown pills were scattered carelessly on the ground.

Two fresh wounds had been added to Aiden's arm.

He held a fruit knife in his hand, stabbing the sofa like a madman, using full force each time, pulling out lots of cotton and fabric.

He was like an out-of-control beast, letting out incomprehensible roars, looking extremely dangerous.

Victoria was so scared by his appearance that she stepped back.

Zane quickly came forward to comfort her. "Ms. Spencer, if Mr. Smith continues like this, sooner or later, he'll use that knife to keep hurting himself! He has no reason right now, it's all instinct!"

Chris gave a warning instead. "Make sure you think it through before going in. If it doesn't work, we can release smoke into that room. There are always ways to solve this."

Victoria looked away, her throat moving as her mind became even more confused.

Her reason made it clear she had to stay away.

But her heart ached, and she wanted to rush in and hold him.

Victoria lowered her head in silence. Even she couldn't figure out her own feelings anymore.

But at least she knew she didn't want Aiden to die.

Zane watched Victoria hesitate, so anxious his mouth was about to blister.

"Ms. Spencer, he's already raised the knife to hurt himself. If you don't go in now, it'll be too late!"

Victoria looked up, and sure enough, the man had raised the dagger high in his hand and, as if feeling no pain, stabbed down hard. Blood and flesh flew instantly.

And in Aiden's eyes there was no fear, only excitement.

He raised the dagger in his hand again, preparing to stab down.

The door was kicked open.

Victoria stood in the doorway, her expression complicated. "Aiden, do you want to die? Why are you hurting yourself?"

Hearing her words, Aiden became like a child who had done something wrong, frantically hiding the dagger behind his back, stammering, "No... not hurting myself. Doesn't hurt at all..."

Victoria took a step forward, reaching out her hand, her eyes seeing his arm still bleeding, her heart clenching with pain.

"Give me the dagger, quickly."

Aiden silently took a step back, his eyes confused but completely sincere. "Can't give it to you. You'll get hurt."

"You know it can hurt someone, yet you're still holding this thing? Aiden, give me this thing. I'll throw it away for you."

Aiden hesitated, but naturally wanted to be close to Victoria and didn't want to hurt her.

Finally, he slowly took out the dagger and handed it to Victoria.

Victoria took the weapon, which was still dripping with Aiden's blood.

Her eyes darkened, and she threw the dagger directly into the trash can.

Victoria's tone became even more stern. "Hold out your hand."

Aiden lowered his head. Right now his thinking was like that of a seventeen or eighteen-year-old kid. He slowly held it out.

"Not nice to look at. It's hurt."
