Chapter 22

Nate's POV:

"I still can't believe it, man." Ryan kept staring at me in shock as I kept gazing at the wall behind him, lost in my thoughts.

"Why would someone try to ruin her career?" I groaned in frustration. I hated the fact that she was at home jobless. I missed her so damn much and badly wanted to figure out this whole mess. I kept thinking of all the possibilities and none of it made sense.

Everything seemed perfectly planned.

"Someone has framed you too, Nate. You got to be careful and next time you leave your desk, please lock your system." Ryan spoke in a concerned voice and I nodded in understanding. I started to think about all the people who has visited my cubicle except Ryan and Sam.

Amy?

Could it be?

I don't think so.

"Have you seen Amy today?" Ryan asked as if reading my mind and I shook my head.

"Why, man?"

"Apart from you and me, she is the one who has been here." He stated and I immediately understood what he was indicating.

"Come on, Ryan. She is our friend. Why would she do that?"

"Maybe...because she wants to break you and Sam apart." He shrugged causally.

"Nah, I don't think so, man. It's a freaking miracle that Sam doesn't doubt me. What if something even worse happens?" I burst out in panic.

"Relax. We will figure it out. I could talk to her and try to find out something," he tried to calm me down and I nodded.

"I'll be right back." I spoke and made my way towards the break room, calling Sam on the way. She picked up within a single ring.

"Hey, missed me?" Her sweet voice flowed through the phone, instantly making me grin widely.

"You have no idea, baby girl." I sighed, making my coffee.

"How is it going there? Have they already replaced me?" she asked in a playful tone but I knew she was upset deep down.

"Not exactly. David is taking care of all the stuff for now and I'm just cracking my brain to figure out this whole mess." I explained, stirring my coffee with one hand and balancing the phone with the other.

"Any progress in that?" she asked eagerly.

"Apart from Ryan and you, Amy is the one who has visited my cubicle so Ryan thinks it could be her."

"To think of it, there is a strong possibility. Does she know that we are dating?" she asked in a serious tone and I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion.

"I don't know. Why?"

"Maybe she is still not over you like I said earlier and is trying to break us apart or something." she replied causally and I let out a small laugh.

"I think you are being paranoid, babe but that's exactly what Ryan also told."

"Just keep an eye on her and please don't worry about me. I'm already keeping myself occupied by applying for jobs." She assured me, putting a small smile on my face.

"You don't want to come back here?" I asked out of curiosity. I mean, she can take her own decisions but I was a bit surprised.

"Yeah, I don't want to work there anymore. I'm too embarrassed," she replied in a soft voice, and I could imagine her pouting.

"And I totally respect that, baby. I'm sure you will get a better job than this." I cheered her up, "But I'm going to miss working with you. Especially, all those hot steamy make-out sessions," I smirked, earning a chuckle from her.

"To be honest, I'm gonna miss it too. Especially, the way you pin me against the wall and claim my lips, all the while, running your hands up my skirt to find my wet..." she spoke in a husky voice, making my heart race wildly against my chest.

"Fuck! Stop it, baby girl. Jesus...you're turning me on."

"You're an idiot, Nate Wilson. Get back to work and come home soon." She laughed, making me go still.

Wow!

Home.

I loved the sound of it.

"Did you just say home?" I asked with a huge smile on my face.

"Errr...well...I might have. Shut up." She rushed out and cut the call immediately, making me laugh out loud.

God, I loved her so damn much.

I turned around to find Amy near the door, standing awkwardly and I cleared my throat.

"Errr...hey, Amy." I greeted her to break the silence and she gave me a small smile.

"Hi, Nate. You seem to be in a good mood."

"Why wouldn't I be?" I asked her with a confused look.

"Ummm...nothing." She smiled and made her way towards the coffee machine. I shook my head and was able to leave the room.

"I heard that Ms. Perez was fired yesterday." She spoke, stopping me dead in my tracks.

"Yeah, I know." I mumbled silently, leaning against the door. She came closer towards me and placed a hand on my chest. I gave her a puzzled look and was about to push her away.

"I know that you like her, Nate but I love you so much." She spoke, looking at me through her tear glazed eyes and I was baffled by her response.

What the hell?

"What?" I freaked out, pushing her away, my eyes going wide in shock, "I thought you were seeing someone else. What is wrong with you?"

"What is wrong with you? I try so hard to make you like me but it's like I'm fucking invisible to you." She started to cry and I stood there like a statue, not knowing what to say.

"I sent that message the other day on purpose hoping that you would get jealous but you didn't even mind it. What the hell does she have that I don't?" she hissed and I could see anger and pain evident in her eyes.

What if Ryan and Sam were right?

"Oh my god, it was you. You tried to frame me and get Sam fired." I breathed out, still trying to process everything.

"What are you talking about?" she asked with a confused look on her face. I explained to her about the whole thing and by the time I was done, she slapped me right across the face, taking me by shock and surprise.

"I can't believe that you thought I would do something like this, Nate. I would never do something so cheap and horrible. Go fuck yourself," she stormed out of the room, leaving me dumbfounded.

Well, if it wasn't her, who was it?
