~Beauty or a Beast~Part 4

~Adella~

I had all my things put away and sat in a chair by a large window inside my room looking out over the beautifully manicured grounds surrounding this place. I took in a deep breath of the scented breeze that made the curtains billow out.

There was a very light peck on the door that barely caught my attention.

"Come in!" I called out.

Crystal stuck her head inside the door smiling.

"Hello Adella, have you got yourself settled in?" She asked sweetly.

"Yeah, pretty much. I was just admiring how absolutely stunning everything is here."

"Yes, it is a very lovely place that requires a great deal of work to keep it looking so nice. The groundsmen are good at what they do and work hard to keep it looking pristine. Do you have any questions you need to ask before we head out?" She looked at me, waiting for an answer.

"No...no questions...I'm ready. Everything is fine, I just wished there was a tub in my bathroom, but that's no big deal. I'm just happy to have such a nice room." I replied, not wanting to sound as if I didn't appreciate the accommodations I'd been given.

"There is another bathroom on this floor that has a large tub you can use. We all share it, when we want to relax a bit. S..separately, of course." She looked a bit red faced at how she had worded that.

I wanted to say. 'Ahh I thought maybe you and I could take a nice soak together and have a little girl on girl time...get to know each other better.' And noooo, I'm not into females, I just like to mess with people and get a reaction. However, I kept my mouth shut.

"So.....I guess we're ready to go then huh?" Crystal asked.

"Yes, I'm more than ready to go and check this place out." I smiled brightly, clapping my hands together like a baby seal.

"Follow me then." She said with a giggle, leading the way out of my room into the long hallway lined with door's spread out every 15 feet or so.

I stared at the large pieces of artwork that hung on the walls depicting fearsome battles and others with the faces of handsome regal men and beautiful refined ladies clad in expensive jewelry. I assumed these were all former family members from long ago of the man who owned this palace.

"I'll show you the area you'll be working on tomorrow." She chattered away as we walked side by side, my eyes taking in every detail of this magnificent home.

I followed her up a huge staircase, down a long corridor and into an unbelievably enormous library with double doors that was more grand than anything I'd ever seen. My eyes bugged out as I gasped at the massive size of this room and the height of the bookcases that seem to reach up to 25 ft in height, and the ceilings look to be at least 40 ft. If someone fell from one of the sliding ladders that were attached to the book shelves there was no doubt in my mind they could be seriously maimed or even killed from falling that far.

"Oh wow th...this is unbelievable. There are sooo many books." I awed in wonder.

"Yea there's quite a few. I hope you're not afraid of being up in high places though." She thinned her lips, staring at me with a serious expression.

"No, I never have been before, but I don't exactly like the idea of having to climb up these with a duster in my hand. Jeshh, this is crazy. So...the new girl gets the most terrifying job. Niiice." I twisted my lips comically, making her giggle. Then I started laughing at the way she snorted a bit when she laughed.

"Would you two please shut your damn mouths! I'm trying to read here." A loud deep grumbling voice silenced us both as we turned and stared at a gorgeous man that stepped out from in between the tall shelves holding a large book in his hands with a scowl on his plush lips.

"W...we should go Adella. C...come on!" Crystal's voice trembled and sputtered as she tried to pull me away toward the door....but I stood firm.

Hell no he didn't just stand there and talk to us like we were beneath him!

"And just who the hell do you think you are to tell us what the fuck to do!?" I replied with excessive sarcasm, snarling at the smug asshole, daring him to say another word.

A wicked smirk appeared on his mouth as he bit down on his bottom lip, giving me a weird vibe that caused the hair on the back of my neck to stand at attention and a chill to slither down my spine making my body shudder.

She forcefully pulled me outta the room down the hallway speedily, only stopping when we got a safe distance from the library and pulled me into an unoccupied room.

"Do you know who that was?!" Her voice trembled.

"An asshole! That's who it was! A grouchy fucking asshole!" I responded with attitude, situating my hands on my hips sassily. Still pissed at the unnecessary rude comment he had made.

"That was your employer! Mister Jackson Kimbers!" She whisper shouted. A fearful emotion showing in her eyes.

My mouth fell open in shock.

"Oh shit...fuck nnnoo! I'll be fired for this! No! No! No!" I spoke in a panicked tone covering my mouth, my eyes bugged outta their sockets from the realization of what I'd just done.

"M... maybe he wont s..say anything since this is your first day." She tried to reassure me while I freaked out.

"Come on...let's get outta here." She pulled me from the room & down the hallway.

We flitted our way down the silent corridor heading for the servants kitchen as if that room offered us protection from any & all impending doom. Both our eyes darted all around, for fear that we'd run into him again and be terminated on the spot.

We both breathed a sigh of relief when we reached the safety of the kitchen. I didn't know how long it would be before someone came and told me to leave.

Nate would be so ashamed that I couldn't even make it through one day without showing my ass and being thrown out.

"Want some coffee?" Crystal asked, her hands shaking badly.

I stared at her with an incredulous look plastered on my face.

"What I need right now is a few shots of liquor and a spliff!" I spoke before I even thought. "I..I'm Sorry...my mouth gets me into alotta shit sometimes, as you just witnessed moments ago." I apologized leaning over the countertop resting my head in my hands trying to calm my crispy fried nerves by taking deep breaths.

"You know what...I don't care! He was rude, and that's not ok, so if I get ousted that's fine. I'm not gonna worry about it anymore." I stood up straight, gaining more confidence. I wasn't the type of person that would allow someone to speak to me or anyone else so rudely, no matter how high & mighty they were.
