Chapter 56
For a while, the factories under the Carnegie Corporation experienced frequent unexplained malfunctions, transportation of goods faced numerous obstacles, and orders were increasingly being canceled without reason.
Dorothy and Russell sensed something unusual behind these events. They knew it must be me causing trouble behind the scenes.
"It seems Sienna is planning to go all out. By doing this, she will not only harm us but also drag herself into deeper trouble and difficulties," Russell said, frowning.
"No matter what tactics she uses, we cannot back down. The Carnegie Corporation has come a long way to get to where it is today, and we cannot let her bring us back to square one," Dorothy said, clenching her fists with determination in her eyes.
To deal with these sudden issues, Russell strengthened the security measures at the factories, personally overseeing the operations and inspecting for any potential hazards. Dorothy, on the other hand, was busy communicating with clients, patiently explaining the situation and trying to salvage the orders that were at risk of being lost.
However, my attacks did not stop there. I bribed some media outlets to fabricate rumors about Russell and Dorothy, attempting to undermine their morale from an emotional standpoint and also to cast doubt on their character in the eyes of the public.
The overwhelming rumor reports left Russell and Dorothy struggling to cope.
"These rumors are just Sienna's desperate attempts. We don't need to pay attention to them. As long as we know the truth, that's all that matters," Dorothy said, looking at Russell with deep affection in her eyes.
"Yes, I only care about you. What others say doesn't matter," Russell said, holding Dorothy's hand tightly.
Just as the stalemate continued, an unexpected turn of events occurred. It turned out that my series of aggressive actions had caused some dissatisfaction among the higher-ups within the Stuart Corporation.
They believed that my actions were too reckless, not only damaging the reputation of the Stuart Corporation but also potentially making too many enemies in the business world, which could affect future development.
As a result, these higher-ups united to limit some of my actions, no longer allowing me to act recklessly.
When I learned of this, I was devastated. I never expected that my efforts to attack the Carnegie Corporation for the sake of the Stuart Corporation would lead to betrayal from within my own ranks.
"Mrs. Percy, your actions have deviated from normal business competition. We cannot stand by and watch the Stuart Corporation decline due to your impulsiveness," one of the higher-ups responded sternly.
Losing the support from behind, I suddenly felt isolated and helpless. Meanwhile, Dorothy and Russell seized this rare opportunity to accelerate the development of the Carnegie Corporation.
At this moment, Melinda brought me some bad news.
Russell had transferred the shares of the company we co-owned to Dorothy.
Hearing this from Melinda, I felt a wave of dizziness, my head buzzing.
"What? How could he do that! Won't the company be in chaos?" I exclaimed, eyes wide with anger and urgency.
Melinda shrugged helplessly, "I didn't expect Russell to pull such a move either. He's clearly trying to cause us trouble."
Zachary, who had overheard our conversation, stopped in his tracks and walked back with a frown, "This is too much. The company was built by all of us together. What right does he have to privately transfer the shares to that Dorothy?"
Biting my lip, I tried to calm myself and think of a countermeasure, "No, we can't just sit and wait. I need to find out his purpose for doing this and whether the share transfer has been formally completed. If there's still time, we need to find a way to stop it."
Melinda nodded in agreement, "Yes, we need to act quickly. I'll contact the company's legal team to see what we can do from a legal standpoint."
With that, she took out her phone and started making calls.
I paced anxiously by the car, my mind filled with the hardships since the company's founding and the past with Russell. I once thought we could run the company well together, but now he had done this.
Zachary came over and patted my shoulder, "Don't worry too much. There will always be a solution. Even if he does transfer the shares, we can find ways to stabilize the company's operations from other aspects, or even replan our development direction."
I looked at him gratefully. Although his words were meant to comfort me, they did make me feel a bit better.
After a while, Melinda hung up the phone, her face looking grim, "The situation doesn't look good. The legal team said that from what they know, Russell is already in the process of handling the share transfer. Although it's not completely done, it's at a critical stage. Without a reasonable reason to stop it, it will be difficult to block this."
My heart grew heavy again, feeling like a huge stone was pressing down on me, making it hard to breathe. I asked, "What should we do then? Is there no other way?"
Zachary thought for a moment and said, "Can we approach Dorothy? Try to talk to her and see what she thinks, why she accepted Russell's share transfer. Maybe we can find a breakthrough."
I thought Zachary's suggestion had some feasibility. Although I didn't have a good impression of Dorothy, for the sake of the company, I had to give it a try.
"Alright, I'll go talk to her. But her relationship with Russell is not ordinary. I don't know if things will go as I wish," I said helplessly.
Melinda looked at me encouragingly, "It's better to try than to sit and wait. You go and see what she says. We'll keep thinking of other ways and stay in touch."
So, with a nervous heart, I headed towards Dorothy's neighborhood, silently praying that I could get some breakthrough from her to prevent the company from falling into such a predicament.
With mixed feelings, I arrived at Dorothy's neighborhood, standing downstairs at her place. I took a deep breath before pressing the doorbell.
After a while, the door opened, and Dorothy appeared at the door in an elegant loungewear. Seeing me, a flash of surprise crossed her eyes, but she quickly regained her usual gentle yet somewhat distant demeanor.
"It's you. What brings you here?" she asked, leaning against the doorframe, unhurriedly.
I forced a smile, trying to keep my tone calm, "I want to talk to you about Russell transferring the company shares to you."
Dorothy raised an eyebrow slightly, as if she had expected me to come for this, "Oh? That matter, what's the issue? Russell has his own ideas, and I'm just going along with his wishes."
