Chapter 90 Coincidences exist
Arthur kept watching every move Anita made after she left his house. The spies he employed kept watching her closely, feeding him the necessary information.
They called him to tell him she had visited the hospital and as she had said, she did get rid of the baby. All these didn’t seem to move Arthur, as he wanted her to suffer for everything.
He kept thinking about how his revenge plan would turn out, and at the same time, he couldn’t stop thinking about Aurora. He wanted her back but she was out of reach.
Heaving a deep sigh, he poured himself another drink and gulped all of it at once.
Theo watched him drown in alcohol from the top floor worriedly. ‘The kids can’t see him like this. Won’t he at least try to be strong for them? Or even for his job?’ Theo thought as he stared at him.
The boys were beginning to complain about their father’s irresponsible behavior lately to him, and all he could say to them was that he was going to talk to Arthur, but then, he didn’t even know what to say.
While Theo watched, he heard Arthur’s phone ring next to him. This time, he left the top floor and headed to the bar, where Arthur sat.
With his heavy eyes, Arthur reached for his phone and answered it. He swiped to the right on his phone screen and answered the call.
“Good morning, Mr. Arthur. How are you today?” Arthur heard the voice of his secretary. He heaved a sigh and shook his head.
“What do you want? I told you to tell the director to handle everything at the office.” He muttered, reaching for the bottle of whiskey again, but this time, Theo got to him and stopped him by grabbing the bottle first.
“I know you said that, boss. But Mr. Musk, our biggest and most important partner, said he wants to see you in person as he has something very crucial to discuss with you.” She responded.
“And what did you tell him?” Arthur replied, shooting Theo a deadly look as he returned the bottle of whiskey to its initial position.
“I told him that I’ll call you and ask you when you’d be available for the meeting.”
“I won’t be available anytime soon. He should talk to the director about it.” Arthur answered, stretching his hand to Theo to give him the bottle, but Theo refused.
“But sir…”
“I’ll call you back.” Arthur butted in and hung up the call. He sprang to his feet and moved closer to Theo.
“What do you think you’re doing? Give me back the bottle!”
“No! I need to talk to you.” Theo insisted firmly as he wasn’t scared of Arthur’s fierce and drunk look.
“I have nothing to discuss with you.”
“You don’t, but I do, and it’s about your kids!” Theo answered, and hearing this, automatically made Arthur calm down.
“What about the kids?” He asked, realizing that he had not even seen or heard from them since the previous day.
“They are sad and mad at you. You hardly pay attention to them anymore. All you do is drink and drink. Your work is being neglected and they are seeing all of these. Do you want them to think you’re an irresponsible father? I know you’re hurt because Aurora is gone, but we are all hurt, including your kids! You should be strong for them, not trying to escape reality by drinking.” Theo uttered in anger and frustration.
Arthur clenched his jaws and reached for his glass which had little whiskey left in it. He drank it and stumped the bottom of the glass on the table.
“I’m sorry, but I’m not the strong man you think I am. I don’t think I can be strong for anyone.” He responded and turned to walk away.
“Yes, you can! You are just being scared! You can’t imagine a life without Aurora, which is totally understandable because you’re in love with her. But do you think she’d ever want to return to a man you’re becoming?
“A man who doesn’t care about his kids and work and all he does is drink all day?! Aurora would never settle for a man like that! She’s off somewhere because she wants to heal. You should heal too, and drinking isn’t a method to heal! You need to show her you are stronger than this!” Theo insisted, and kept talking as he walked behind Arthur.
“How do you expect me to show her when she’s not even here! She’s gone!”
“Then show your kids! Show them you still love them! I know Aurora would never just ignore the boys for so long, and if they eventually reach out to her and tell her how you’re treating them, do you think she’d be happy with you?”
“Maybe if she knows I’m miserable, she’d want to come back.” Arthur mumbled, grabbing his head in his hands as he slammed into the couch.
“No! You’re wrong! She went off so she wouldn’t have to deal with your problems again. Do you think she’d want to come back just to help you solve more problems?” Theo asked, rendering Arthur speechless.
“This has to stop, boss.” Theo added, letting out a deep sigh.
“What do I do, Theo? I don’t know what to do anymore.” Arthur mumbled with his head lowered.
“Go back to work. Pay attention to the boys. Try to be happy. Get rid of Anita or anything else that can cause you problems. And what will be will be.
“Call your secretary back and fix a date for your important meeting.” Theo suggested. He rushed back to the bar, picked up Arthur’s phone and ran back to him.
He gave him his phone and stood in front of him, waiting for him to make the call.
“Okay.” Arthur muttered, running his palm on his face as he proceeded to call her back.
“Hello, Boss.” She uttered from the other end.
“Tell Mr Musk that I’ll be in the office at 8 a.m. tomorrow. We can see anytime after that time.” He said, with his eyes on Theo, who wouldn’t stop nodding in agreement with him.
“Okay, boss! Thank you, boss!” She responded happily, and Arthur hung up after.
“Good! I’m glad you took that step, Boss.” Theo uttered with a smile.
“What about the boys? What should I do?” Arthur asked like his brain wasn’t working anymore.
“Maybe you can make them lunch, and then eat with them when they return from school. You’ll apologize to them and promise them to do better. How about that?” Theo suggested, and Arthur nodded in agreement.
“I’ll do that.” He answered with enthusiasm.
As Anita drove to the house, she looked back through her rear mirror and saw the same navy blue car again.
‘You, again?’ She thought as she reached for her phone. She called Alec and put her phone on speaker.
“What is it this time?” Alec stated immediately when he answered the phone.
“I told you I’m being followed! It’s the blue car again! It’s been five days and I see the car almost everywhere I go.” She responded, taking another look at the car through her mirror.
“C’mon, Anita. Coincidences exist. Who would want to follow you?”
“Arthur!” She answered.
“What? Why would he want to do that?”
“I don’t know! But getting that money from him was quite easy. He must have something going on.”
She heard Alec sigh before speaking again. “Well, I’m not surprised. You have done so many evil things. Things like this are bound to happen.”
“Shut up, Alec! I called you to tell you this so you can help me.”
“Help you? I’m done with you, remember? I want to live my life peacefully and this is a path you’ve never chosen.”
“I swear, Alec, this is Arthur’s doing. My mind doesn’t deceive me. He’s going to regret keeping me on my toes like this!”
“And what are you going to do?” Alec asked.
“Make sure he never gets the opportunity to scare me like this. Talk to you later.” She answered and hung up instantly.
She called another phone number on her phone and put it on speaker too. The person answered her phone almost immediately.
“Yo! Wagwan!”
“I have a job for you.”
