Chapter 73 Plate number

Chapter 73 Plate number
Carter got to the restaurant pretty late. Though Derick promised to finish with him early, they ended up using about an hour. When he got to the restaurant, Aurora had finished work already.

She sat at the waiting area, waiting for him to show up. When she saw him approaching, she opened her arms and embraced him tightly.

“Thank you for coming. I shouldn’t have bothered you.” She uttered as they hugged.

“It’s okay, Aurora. I’m glad you called me. How are you feeling now? Still mad at Arthur?” He asked as they settled down.

“I’m not sure. I’m just so mad that Anita won’t stop bothering us. I want her out of our lives for good, but I don’t know how to do that. She’ll keep bothering Arthur until God knows when.” Aurora ranted, rolling her eyes in frustration.

“But Arthur isn’t giving her the attention she craves, right?”

“No… I don’t know. I’m not sure. He claims to get rid of her phone number, but I don’t know what to believe anymore. Why can’t he just change his phone number?”

“But isn’t that his business line?”

“I don’t know, Carter. I just hate Anita, and I hate that she has so much effect on Arthur. This makes me doubt if I do want to get back to Arthur. If we are together and she tries coming at him again, I’m going to lose it…”

“Hold on, Aurora.” Carter butted in, holding her  hand so he could stop.

“You are speaking out of emotions right now. This is just out of anger, okay? You want to be with Arthur. I saw that cute apology video of you two yesterday! Who wouldn’t want to be with a man like that? He is really trying his best to how you that he loves you.”

“I know, but I just…” She took a long pause. “I don’t know, Carter. Maybe Arthur and I weren’t even meant to be.” She shrugged, even though the thought of it saddened her.

“You shouldn’t just conclude that based on your feelings. Arthur isn’t the enemy here, but Anita. She should be the one you’re so mad at.”

“What do you think I can do to get her away from Arthur?” She further asked him.

“You do nothing. Until you and Arthur become official. I mean… he asks you to marry him, you do nothing. He may be serious now, but you need to know that until he’s officially yours, you can’t just go to fight another woman because of him.

“Right now, all you can do is watch and observe. Kept checking if he makes efforts to keep her away from you and your kids. At the same time, don’t rely on him hundred percent until he asks you to be his wife.” Carter added.

“I shouldn’t rely on him? What am I supposed to do then?”

“I don’t know. Believe you’re single until now. You are not even married and you’re this worried. It’s not even worth if. If another man comes to you and is good to you, great. Don’t hesitate to meet other people because of him. Until you’re married, you’re single.”

Carter’s words sank deep into Aurora’s head as she listened. He was right. She realized she was acting like his wife when she wasn’t even his girlfriend yet.

‘He must know I don’t have any other options and that is why he thinks he would be so easy for him to have my attention back.’ She thought, nodding her head in reality.

“What are you thinking?” Carter asked, taking a sip from his drink for the first time.

“Nothing. I was just reminiscing on what you said.”

“That’s right. But please don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying Arthur isn’t in love with you, I’m just saying don’t go fighting over a man that hasn’t assured you where you stand in his life.”

“I got it, Carter. Thank you. At least now I know what to do. I’ll just have to wait and observe.” She answered, and Carter nodded in satisfaction.

After a while of them coversing, it was time for Carter to return home, so Aurora walked him out, also carrying her stuff too as she had closed for the day.

“Before we depart, I have good news.” Carter uttered, and Aurora’s eyes widened.

“Really? Why didn’t you say it earlier?” She asked, and he chuckled.

“Well, it would be unfair of me to just broke such news when you needed me to talk to you about your worries. This is the best time to break the news.” He answered.

“And what is this news about?” She asked eagerly.

“Derick and I are getting married on the 10th of next month.”

“What?! Are you serious? So soon?” Aurora jumped in excitement, drawing the attention of those that walked past them to her.

“Shhh! People are staring.” Carter answered shyly, looking around him.

“I’m sorry! I’m just so happy. I didn’t know it would be so soon.”

“Well, we saw no use of waiting too long before the wedding. We can’t wait to be husbands already.”

“That is so so great. I’m excited. I can’t wait for the day to come. In the happiest girlfriend right now.” She answered, and they both laughed.

“We are planning to invite just a few people, and you’ll be the first person I’m inviting. I’ll give you the invitation card later. But you can’t be absent.”

“Never. I’ll be there no matter what. I’m setting an alarm and reminder on my phone right now!” She added, as she went ahead to set a reminder and alarm on her phone.

After a while of happy chatting, they finally parted ways. Aurora stood at the roadside, waiting for the Uber she had ordered to arrive.

While she waited, she suddenly sensed the gaze of someone on her. She creased her brows and looked around her to see where that feeling was coming from.

While she looked at her left side again, she heard a voice on her right side.

“Hello, beautiful.”

She flinched in fear as his voice caught her by surprise. She turned to look at him and saw an handsome-looking stranger standing next to her.

He wore a white shirt and black denim pants. He had pretty long hair which he pack in a low ponytail.

“Hi.” Aurora answered, forcing on a smile after he almost scared her to death.

“I’m Alec.” He uttered, stretching out his hand to her.

“Aurora.” She answered, receiving his hand in a handshake.

“What are you doing out here? It’s pretty late.” He asked as she withdrew her hand from his.

“Right. I’m waiting for the Uber I ordered, and it’s taking forever to get here.” She muttered, checking the app again, and it said the driver was still twenty minutes away.

“Oh wow. Can I give you a lift then? My car is right there.” He answered, pointing to a black benz car not so far from where they stood.

“Oh, you don’t have to bother. Aren’t you waiting for someone?” She asked, and he shook his head.

“No. I drove by and saw you standing here alone, I couldn’t help stop so I could approach you. It’s dangerous out here. Let me drive you home.” He insisted.

Aurora looked around, realizing it was getting even darker, she was still scared of just hoping into a stranger’s car.

“I don’t know… I…”

“You can snap my plate number if that is going to make you feel safe. I have my driver’s license in my car. I can give that to you too. I’m just worried that you’re out here.” Alec pressed further.

“Alright.” Aurora nodded.

He gave way for her and made her walk in front while he walked behind her. Getting to his car, Aurora didn’t hesitate to snap his late number and send to Carter.

“This man is giving me a ride home. Please call me in ten minutes time, if I don’t answer, raise an alarm to the police. Here is his plate number.”

After sending this to Carter, Alec opened the door for her to go in.

“Thank you.” She answered as she settled in his car.

Shutting the door, Alec let out a smirk as he rounded the car to the driver’s door.

‘It wasn’t so tough, Anita.’
