Chapter 45 I need a break
Theo walked into Aurora’s room after getting permission from her to enter. He met two big boxes on her bed, all filled up with her clothes.
“What are you doing?” He furrowed his brows, moving closer to her.
“I’m leaving.” She muttered. Her eyes were swollen from how much she’d cried.
“Leaving? What are you talking about?”
“Arthur doesn’t love me. I see no reason why I should still be here.” She responded, locking the boxes.
“What? Why are you saying this? What happened? What did you hear?” Theo bombarded her with questions, still feeling very confused.
“I heard everything. I’m just nothing but a distraction. He also told me he wouldn’t be able to reciprocate the feelings I have for him. There’s no use of me being here.”
She pulled the bags with her and headed out of the room, leaving Theo speechless.
“But… but wait… what about the kids?” He asked, causing her to take a halt. “What will you tell them?” He further inquired, and she looked at him from above her shoulder.
“That I have to go.” She answered as she continued walking away.
“But… Miss Aurora!” He called, but Aurora ignored him and made her way to the boys room.
Theo hurried to Arthur’s room and knocked on his door. “Boss! She’s leaving!” He uttered, waiting to hear from Arthur.
“Leaving?” Arthur answered from inside the room. He got up from his bed and walked to the door. Opening it, he saw Theo standing in front of his door.
“Aurora is leaving. She wants to say goodbye to the boys.” He further explained.
Arthur gulped hard as he stared at Theo. Theo expected him to take actions immediately, but then, he answered and said;
“Okay.”
Theo’s eyebrows rose up in awe as he realized how calm Arthur was. ‘Maybe she really does have to go. How is he so unfazed?
“You’re not going to stop her?” He asked him, and Arthur let out a deep breath.
“No, but I have to be with the kids after she’s gone.” Arthur answered, shutting the door of his room behind him.
He began to walk down the hallway with Theo behind him. Theo couldn’t stop wondering what kind of man he is. ‘He’s just going to let his girlfriend leave? The mother of his kids?’
Getting into the boys room, Aurora met them lying on the bed, awake.
“Hi, boys.” She forced out a grin as they all sat up to look at her.
Ryan arched one of his brows after seeing the boxes in his mother’s hand.
“Why are you going?” He asked.
“That’s what I’m here to tell you. Come in, boys.” She uttered, opening her arms so they could all embrace her.
After they were in her arms, she held them close to her tightly. “Now boys, I need you to listen to me, okay? Mummy is going on a trip.” She uttered.
They disengaged from the hug and looked at her. “Another trip?” Rowan asked, and she nodded, fighting the tears that threatened to fall out of her eyes.
“When will you be back? That is a lot of stuff.” Riley added, checking out the boxes again.
“Well, I’ll be gone for a pretty long time, I’m not sure when I’m going to be back. But don’t worry, I’ll come and say hi to you at school.” Aurora muttered, as her tears betrayed her, rolling down her face when she didn't want it to.
“Is it because of your fight with daddy? You two have been fighting lately.” Ryan uttered, cleaning Aurora’s tears off with his small hands.
“No… no, Ryan. I’m leaving because mummy has to work.”
“But daddy has money.” Rowan added, his eyes heating up with tears after seeing her crying.
“Never depend on the money that isn’t yours, Rowan, okay? Mummy needs to make her own money.” Arthur answered from the door, causing all of them to look at him.
“Daddy, mummy said you’ll be gone for a long time. Does she have to work?” Riley questioned him. He nodded slowly and squatted at the door.
“Every adult needs to work. Don’t worry, boys. It’s for the best.”
Aurora swallowed hard, refusing to look at Arthur as he spoke.
“Promise you’ll come and visit at school.” Rowan mumbled, embracing Aurora again.
“I promise, baby.” She muttered, planting a kiss on his head.
“Our birthday is next month. Will you come to see us?” Ryan asked, and Aurora looked at Arthur. She wasn’t sure if he was going to let her step into his house again once she leaves.
“Of course, she’ll be here! It’s your birthday. She can always leave work to come and see you.” Arthur answered, and she feigned a grin, nodding in agreement.
“And I’ll call Theo almost everyday to see your faces.” Aurora told them, and they nodded sadly. They didn’t want their mother to leave, but there was nothing they could do about it as she already made up her mind.
“Calling Theo won’t be necessary. I’ll get them a tablet where you can call them on.” Arthur uttered, looking at her.
Aurora nodded, taking a glance at him before looking away.
“Well, that is easier. I’m going to miss you, boys.” She embraced them again, kissing their heads. “I love you so much.” She mumbled in tears.
“We love you too, mum.” They chorused. “Don’t forget to visit us too.” Rowan added, cleaning his face with his palm.
“I won’t.” Aurora answered, feeling reluctant to let go of them and leave. This was the hardest decision she was ever going to make. Leaving her boys behind.
‘But this isn’t only about them anymore. I’m sorry, boys,’ She thought, holding onto them.
“Boys, it’s time for mummy to leave. We don’t want her to be late.” Arthur answered, slowly pulling the boys away from her.
Aurora cleaned her eyes and nodded, wearing another smile. She stood up and held onto her bags.
“Bye, boys!” She said, making her way out of the room. Rowan broke into tears again, while Ryan and Riley tried to console him with tears in their eyes too.
“Do you really have to do this?” Theo asked, walking behind her.
“I need a break, Theo. I can’t do this.” Aurora mumbled as she kept heading to the door.
“Aurora!” Arthur called.
She stopped walking and turned back to look at him. He moved closer to her, his eyes locked with hers.
“I’m sorry for…”
“No, you don’t have to be.”
“Do you have to go? We can live here together but not be in a relationship, because of the boys. Our decisions shouldn’t affect them.”
“It has always been about them. I have feelings too, Arthur. I’m sorry but I have to do this.”
He clenched his jaws and nodded slowly. “Where are you going?” He inquired.
“You don’t have to know. This is me trying to stay away from you, as far as I can, until you get your sht together.” Aurora answered, taking one last look at Theo before she headed out, crying profusely.
She pulled out her phone and put a call across to Derick. Fortunately, he answered just in time.
“Derick, can I please stay the night at your place? I promise to leave early tomorrow morning.” She mumbled, lowering her head in sorrow.
She got to Derick’s, and Carter wrapped his arms around her to give her comfort.
“I’m sorry, baby girl.” He muttered, patting her head carefully.
“I just want to forget about him. Forget that I ever knew him.”
